    Listening to The Godfather's theme brings me back to the heady days of the Cold War era, when Radio Moscow often played this song in between programmes. 📻😏🇷🇺
    The highlight of this video starts at 3:35, where you can see the hands of a professional radio operator skillfully adjusting the controls of a 1948 era, vacuum tube receiver that may, or may not be the grand prize giveaway for this channel in 2025. 😍👍

    • @swlistening

      Maybe that's why they played it in this programme! A familiar tune in Russia. The Hammarlund will stay right here 🤣

      @@swlistening I also remember Radio Moskva playing balalaika instrumentals sixties song, "Sealed With A Kiss" and a few Beatles covers, but I may have been mistaken due to the "Mandela Effect". Yes, it's named after *that* guy. 😀

    Why is the BBC broadcasting American movie music to Russian audiences?
    And that old Hammarlund sounds amazing, doesn’t it?

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I was asking myself the same question. They have an hour only, once a week (or, perhaps, twice a week, it seems like they do it on Sunday also). And then they play music most of the time...
      The Hammarlund was a great find for me, really great reception and really great sound.

    That isn't classical music, it's from The Godfather, by Nino Rota. But a great catch, Andre.

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks Bruce! Here in South Africa our classical music station in Johannesburg plays this kind of movie music often, but you are right, not what most people know as classical music. How weird though, to just play this for most of the programme. No talking, no news (unless it was before I started listening). I am sure there are already good music radio stations in Russia... Kind of makes me think what the purpose of this broadcast would be.

      I also listened to that exact broadcast on my XHDATA D808, I seem to think that the reception on the D808 was superior to the two radios you featured, I'm in Durban SA, I'm using a long wire antenna.

      @@robertvandervelde60 Hi Robert, nice catch! I think with your location near the ocean you will be able to make some good catches there in Durban. I don't know if you listened to my last podcast, but I will contribute a clip to Wavescan from this month, an African DX report. It would be great for me to build up a small network of listeners here in SA, and elsewhere in Africa, who could send me occasional reception reports for my Wavescan clip. If you are interested, will you please send me an email to andre9@duck.com, then I will give you more details.

    Sad thing is that foreign broadcaster's save on programs for friendly audiences and pass budgets for countries they may call enemies.
    Not quite the Happy Station.

    • @swlistening
      @swlistening  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Indeed. Foreign broadcasters should spend much more on their programmes for people in countries with less access to varied media and information.
