Yeah, it does matter. If you sharpen your own knives there's a huge difference between 2 HRC points. Especially with burr removal and overall achievable sharpness. The people that say that simply don't know what they're talking about and should hop off the bandwagon.
I wish they would have made the lock system on the thunderbird better! Paying $200 for their premium model and just a couple baby taps still causes it to close up is a little disappointing

Very weak detent to the point of flopping open and/or bouncing open when closed. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, now it’s becoming a pattern. Fool me 3 times, I’m really trying to give you a chance. Fool me 4 times, I’m done.
im sorry you have had poor experiences with the company, have you reached out to them? ive def had a few lemons as well, but overall out of maybe 40 or 50 that i have and had even more, most have been good, a couple with light detents, a couple fails, but certain ones are really good like the raccoon with the top liner its a great one imho
Man this looks really nice. I love that they separated the edge from the plunge grind and gave us plenty of sharpening life. Companies need to learn this asap
Some people claim they get material stuck in it while cutting....cant make everybody happy I guess. I've never had a problem but I guess cardboard is the last thing I cut with my knives
Definatly a great looking knife like the amount of life with the sharpening choil and a solid front choke up spot. Personally like a bit more blade but it is what it is. Great to see Vosteed continue to use the compression style button lock as it keeps fingers out of the way and much more solid than a plunge style button lock. Contoured vs flat scales is a tough choice as both have benefits. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
It is an epic design good for edc as for me I cant afford that stuff but definitely appreciate a good knife. Managed to get my first we but just about everybody in the community knows that but still supports which is why I love this community. As I appreciate you Jared for sharing whats out there buddy cant say enough. Actually did some testing on the knives I recieved and there doing pretty good on heat treat with sitiviens. I jammed in oak and cut shavings and even tried beating a notch out and no damage. So they go to good use when i recieve them. Have a fantastic day buddy
Just bought a Hedgehog to add to my Vosteed collection (Mini Nightshade & Racoon). I'd love a Psyop next but the non-reversible clip is a deal breaker for this lefty.
Swedges are a waste on this small of a knife, would rather have a full flat grind and a spine with jimping all the way down to close to the tip for fine control in utility cuts.
It's a cool design but I just can't get over how small the cutting edge is for how long the overall knife is. I feel like the giant choil is just too much
you probably just need to get a really good one that you can use easily as a front or regular flipper, like the olamic whippersnapper, the Kizer de l orme etc
Loving what Vosteed is doing as a brand for the most part (I got in on the Ankylo Kickstarter and just got one of the "top liner-lock" Raccoons) and I like the LOOKS of this knife and the lock-design but... there's too much I just don't like for this to be 'knife of the year" for me. It's too flashy (I WISH they would do a 14C28N/Micarta version of some of these new knives cause I just don't generally like slick or milled Ti/Alu scales (the Ankylo is just a very unique lock type and a cool design IMO so I will tolerate them in some rare instances) and the GOD AWFUL milled Ti pocket clip design that should be heated up with a blow-torch and shoved into the eye of whatever smooth-brained hipster came up with the design. Elmax is also nothing special IMO, statistically it has very similar properties to S30V in terms of toughness/edge-retention/Corrosion resistance so... Meh. K390, Rex 45 or CPM Cru-wear would definitely interest me more.
have you tried it? i would completely dissagree, contoured ti or milled ti, with elmax, and a strong working lock, with great tolerance fit finish etc, the machining on it is amazing, asher are great maybe i need to try that one
will they make the blade a reverse tanto vibe? if so i'm in. the pyrite cjrb has been in the pocket for a year. need a new vibe. this knife my take it's place. Wharncliffe blade and im in!!!
for $250, id expect better milling. especially around the screws. They just drilled holes through the milling. At least with the Kunwus for the same price, they milled around the screw holes.
I'm a lefty and I've never understood why people have such an issue if the clip isn't reversible for left handed carry. I own a ton of knives that are frame locks and every other type and I've never had an issue with deployment or anything like that because of the clip. It actually feels less comfortable when the clip is switched over for lefty. I'll buy a knife whether it's Lefty friendly or not. But maybe it's be cause it's how I started and all I've ever known
Interesting that Benchmade had the "Nak-lock" over 15 years ago. Bearing pivots weren't a thing back then, and Benchmade seemed to have a hard time eliminating up/down play.
@@DB.KOOPERI always liked the idea of the Nak-lock, but Benchmade couldn't make it work. Just like how Benchmade was the dead end for Lonewolf's Paul pivot button lock. It died because Benchmade bought the rights, and then couldn't manufacture it correctly.

i dont agree, i think we will always need knives as they are so important to our survival. however i do understand they make a lot of different models because theres a lot of collectors
Awesome looking knife and I respect the hell out of Vosteed for leaning into the “newer” locking mechanisms. Between the top liner lock and the new pivot lock they seem to be dialed in on keeping things open so they can have multiple variations of the same knife (Raccoon) and also have something a little to add to their premium offerings. I will definitely get one of these in the hand soon.

I just returned them. There are so many good knives out there, I have a hard enough time deciding. This actually makes it easier. 😂

it feels and looks more like a $150 knife. It cant compete with the Asher Spiro Black.

Besides Cold Steel and Emerson, what folders do u think would hold up in a tactical situation? Fixed blades may be illegal to carry where I am living.
only cold steel in terms of anything fixed blade strength. anything marketed as beefy tactical frame lock is a joke.
