It's not a lack of logic. It's basic physics. The dynamite's exterior is flammable, and the concept of its explosion is to gather a good amount of gunpowder in a small and compressed place, which intensifies the explosion. If the dynamite was thrown unlit, it would burn along with the wick and spread the gunpowder all over the fireplace, which could cause 2 possible situations: either the dynamite would NOT EXPLODE, or the spread gunpowder would make JUST SMALL MINI EXPLOSIONS that would not be enough to destroy the house.
