I have an absolutely massive stack of Xyris-related cards and was thinking about making my own video on him. I still manage to learn new combos! Great video. Hive Mind is smart. I didn't know it required the spells to be copied. Spark Double led me to research other legendary copy effects and "Vesuvan Duplimacy" and "Echoing Equation" are insane additions (depending on if you buff him up a lot or swing with snakes a lot).
That's one of the beautiful things about singleton formats. You can build the decks so different from what others are doing and you learn so much by looking at what others are doing. Depending on how you build the deck, I could see Duplimancy working, but you'd need to add more single target stuff to get it rolling. A funny interaction I just thought about, you could use Irenicus' Vile Duplication, with Vesuvan Duplimancy on the board, and get 2 non-legendary clones out of it, and these type of clones also interact favorably with Parallel Lives and Doubling Season. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Xyris is just one of my favorite Commanders as it's different from your regular stuff to combo or synergize with.
@@twilightscallmtg I've found a ton of good 1-2 CMC instants and sorceries that would work well for a voltron type deck. Might of Old Krosa + Assault Strobe and you're swinging him in for 14 damage. Draw 14, make 14 snakes. Get 2 more Xyris off Duplimacy. All for 2 mana. There's also stuff like Might of the Masses, so once you have those 14 snakes you can spend a single green to swing Xyris as a 17/19 and make another Xyris while you're at it. Actually... creating all these other Xyris will inflate the snake numbers lol. I think the copies would come in before I even swing ... You can do quite a lot with these little 1-2 CMC cards, so it's cool to find a synergy based around targetting him that also provides redundancy.
I like Triumph, but Infect is super frowned upon where I play, so I try to avoid using it. Strangely though, they are fine with getting steamrolled by a massive Craterhoof overrun.
@@twilightscallmtg if you read the card it says “if they Draw more than one card on their DRAW STEP” meaning you can’t just make people draw card and get snakes unless it on their main phase draw step
That's why I was confused. It's all draws EXCEPT the first card of their draw steps. Otherwise the draw trigger on hitting them with Xyris would be useless. The idea is to force them to draw with it and get snakes if you don't have any other way to make them draw additional cards.

I’d run Triumph of the Hordes and go in with a shitload of swole snakes

@@twilightscallmtg my LGS looks at me like I just let out the nastiest fart they’ve ever smelled every time I buy an infect card
Key words say “draw step”
Apologies, but not catching what you're trying to say here.
