All I can say is that it’s a Japanese girl, who’s absolutely cracked in Apex and she plays it sideways, I think she said the reason is because she used to play on her brother’s PC and his mouse was too big to hold it normally so she just got used to holding it sideways. Or so I remembered.
That might be the most insane thing I've ever seen. Not only is she playing at 4mil edpi, every movement is rotated 90 degrees left. I can feel grey matter leaking out of my ears imagining what it would be like to play anything like that.
In the end, its mostly about what youre used to. I have seen pro players play with trackballs, trackpads, theres prob a decent player who plays using a tablet i bet. As a person who used to go to lanparties alot in the past, i now always rotate my keyboard atleast 35 degrees. Cus back in the day, you needed every space you could get between your friends and the massive crt monitors, so a rotation of like, 70-80 degrees was the norm. And at the start of pc gaming, using a mouse was really rare. Aiming using the arrow keys was common. Heck, the wasd standard for movement wasnt really baseline untill valve launched half-life.
It’s actually less confusing than you might think, your brain stops registering the direction your arm is moving and you just instinctively react to what your character is doing in the game. It’s sort of like inverting your joysticks.
actually, i can see it working. i just tested how it felt doing that and while it will take a bit more to get used to, it actually fits the natural motion of your arm. the way normal people use the mouse is actually very unnatural to the motion of your arm. your arm moves on a pivot of your elbow, so by holding the mouse perpendicular you acutely can move the courser straight as you make an arching motion naturally.

What she's doing with her grip turns her left into up, her down into left, her right into down and her up into left. I can't imagine anyone using a mouse in this way without a gun being held to their heads... Mind numbing, honestly. And she can aim pretty fucking well, with high DPI too...

I mean, I have a Razer that allows me to switch DPI up or down on the fly and with some games where the sensitivity is whack, I'll turn it up, but I normally leave it around 800 to 1,200 at most for normal games. I mean, what, do you move your mouse an inch and do a 720 turn?
@@_ranko Having it that high means small adjustments in aiming are harder, less precise and more likely lead to overcorrections and thus be slower. It has nothing to do with nerves. It'd be like getting into a car and having the steering wheel turning a few inches cause the car to spin out of control. You have less control over the input.
As former rts/rpg player I got used to play on high dpi (12k for my current mouse), but after I started to play Apex I basically was forced to re-learn to use mouse, because ye, less than 1k dpi feels weird :D
My previous DPI was.. I donno. 4000-9000? Somewhere at the purple light, highest setting of an expensive gaming mouse. It's kinda nice, because with less, you can do more. You barely have to move your hand, and the mouse is at the other side of the screen. With aiming it's also nice, because you have less muscle lag.

I've seen internet cafés in Asia with just a tad bit more space than that and it's completely playable, the grip however I have never seen anywhere around the world

2:52 Finana's grip may look bad but remember that we have Mumbo Jumbo using his thumb for the ctrl and shift button on his left hand rather than his pinky finger. So its not that bad in comparison to one of the greatest example of human contortion.

I think I understand the whole philosophy of the “Finana Grip” style: the point of it is to have immediate access to left, right, and middle mouse click along with the scroll wheel without having to laterally shift your fingers; very interesting. Of course there are some issues if you’re planning to use it for yourself, at least in the initial phases: -The axis of the mouse is gonna be off due to the slanted nature. -Access to any side buttons is likely an impossibility now, unless you’re willing to make big movements with your thumb. -If you have scroll wheel tilt buttons, you run into the possibility of misclicking them. -The grip only really works on ambidextrous style mice, but it’s possible to make it work on ergonomic mice. This is, of course, not dismissing her grip as impractical, but just some observations I made while replicating the grip myself. Didn’t click for me, but that’s okay; as the old saying goes, different strokes for different folks.
I initially hated gaming on PC bc of my mouse grip, with which I could only use 2 of the 3 main buttons on a mouse at once (bc index/middle and grip with all else), so I just...learned to place index/middle/ring fingers on them eventually. It was a seamless transition to 5+ button mice too bc my thumb placement never had to change. My pinky cramped up a lot initially but once you get a mouse with a little height on it that becomes a non-issue.
I also think it might be an advantageous grip style for smaller hands. I tried to position the way she does, and my fingers spill over. Hands too big for most things to use comfortably and I always use claw grip. Thumb and pinky move the mouse and palm never touches the mouse.
The only advantage you mentioned is also the case for a normal mouse grip, so there is no positive. Besides, the fact that the axis is off outweighs everything else by a large margin. I will dismiss it as impractical, because it objectively is.
Just... Just get a mouse with a shoulderbutton... Rebind that to middle. Done, maximum access to all three mouse buttons. And no weird 70-90 degree twist with what looks like a terribly cramp-prone hand position.
Frankly speaking, now I respect her even more. Mouse position plus mouse DPI like that AND that tiny space. She still look like a normal player on her screen.

Strangest thing i did was probably overwatch for a year on track pad. Work pretty decent. Sadly, my mouse aim wasn’t any better. 180 turns on trackpad wasn’t hard. Only thing i had to change was shoot button. I changed it from m1 to space button and my jump to “r.”

Fun fact: They actually ergonomic vertical mice that would basically do what Finana does but be a bit more conventional in terms of grip. There are also mice that are controlled sort of like you are gripping a cup where the mice are just flipped on their sides and the side is now the laser surface.
my best guess is that she turns right by pulling with her fing and pinky finger and using her index and thumb as a pivot. left by pulling with index and using pinky/ring as pivot. then up and down is acheived through shifting all her fingers at the same time plus some wrist rotation. source: i used to exclusively play at 4500 dpi but not tilted.
I play osu since 2018 and my right hand that I use for aiming became comfortable the most with fingertip grip, playing this game for a long time will make you discover dpi/sensitivity and mouse grip that you're most comfortable, so in finanas case here as weird as it look this is her true form.
going back to this, if finana focused more on FPS games like apex, her grip is actually so viable with learning movement, especially that movement players in Apex have the Index = Left Click, Middle = Mouse wheel, Ring = Right Click to do tap strafe, bunny hop, super jump, mantle jump etc. while aiming and shooting.

my best guess is that she turns right by pulling with her fing and pinky finger and using her index and thumb as a pivot. left by pulling with index and using pinky/ring as pivot. then up and down is acheived through shifting all her fingers at the same time plus some wrist rotation.

I play osu since 2018 and my right hand that I use for aiming became comfortable the most with fingertip grip, playing this game for a long time will make you discover dpi/sensitivity and mouse grip that you're most comfortable, so in finanas case here as weird as it look this is her true form.

going back to this, if finana focused more on FPS games like apex, her grip is actually so viable with learning movement, especially that movement players in Apex have the Index = Left Click, Middle = Mouse wheel, Ring = Right Click to do tap strafe, bunny hop, super jump, mantle jump etc. while aiming and shooting.
