Apart from that, the DDR reddit page and DDR wiki are good for getting more explanations. For the term "lateral" specifically, I think that's just referring describing his motion at that moment; I don't think it refers to a specific step-type.

I've never understood what the positive or negative blue number under the judgement was for. Can anyone enlighten me?

It's to see how far you are from the target score displayed at the start of the song. Blue positive means your currently above the target at that moment while red negative is opposite.
