Amber, hun, your amazing. I’ve got your playlist saved and have been watching all 83 videos over and over. Taken to a of notes and I feel so confident in my ability to get this idea off the ground because of you. Thank you so much for this amazing resource

Choose wisely and never rush to put anyone on your board. Establish term limits for your board members. I inherited a toxic, elderly board bully who thought she knew everything, and was resistant to change and new ideas. I established term limits after 3 years of her BS and booted her. You must do this in order to keep the board fresh and vibrant. Many who “serve” on a board are there to embellish their resumes, network and gain bragging rights. They are not in the least interesting in providing the resources, work or leadership the organization needs.

I'm so sorry to hear about your nightmare situation! :( That's really hard. With some good screening and a good application process in hand, it is possible to find great board members who really care (in my experience)!

This is such a helpful video and I should probably watch it a few times. I have a great board and I'm not sure that our organization is using this resource as well as we could. The thing is that most of our board are extremely busy with life and may not have the hours to dedicate. What would you say is an average number of hours a month (week?) that these committees would need (that I would need to ask from board members)? I could write so much more...
    Much gratitude as always!

I think it depends - is your board a Working Board or a Governing Board? Do you have a team of paid staff already managing most day to day things?

Does every committee have chair? And how should they be chosen?

How you structure the board / committees is something you all can decide as a team, but sometimes it helps to have someone at the helm to direct the group effectively.

I'm trying to start a business or non-profit I'm not sure which is better. The service will be a litter debris based venture in Arkansas. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Look into the social enterprise model (combines some business and nonprofit elements)! For leadership purposes, the structure would be different -- check out some of my videos on Boards.

How many people does your non profit have as paid staff?

Small-ish staff still; We're at about 8 at this point, and growing.
