Dear people of Pakistan,
Assalamualaikum. How are you doing?
I have heard that our countries have a lot in common. Even we like kebabs hot from the tandoor, and the chutney with it is loved in my country as much as in yours.
We wear similar clothes and believe in religion just as fiercely as you do. Our temples, mosques, churches and gurudwaras endorse the same ethos and ethics, as the mosques in your country. God is one. You know. We know.
Our alleys and lanes are alike. And so are some of our cultures and traditions. We borrow your actors and musicians, you watch our movies and listen to our music. And both, you and me, celebrate the essence of life.
My history books remind me that we both were one, once. Circumstances invited partition, and choices welcomed hatred. Wars have always lead to destruction, and we surely do not want a third one to become true.
So, let us both throw smiles at one another, and not weapons. Let's choose to shoot love across the border, and not bullets. And for once, let's become the colours of the same flag.
For we know that love knows no borders, and peace has no nationality. These are not the best times therefore, I will keep your country in my prayers, and you keep mine.
May Allah always be in your stride. And I'll take this moment to wish you a very happy independence day!
