Great to see this singular performance of this classic MF tune close to the time it was released. The original certainly swings more then this tepid big band version but it’s great to see him get the royal treatment on the TV screen -thanks for posting
"Maybe it's the way she grates her cheese or just the freckles on her knees maybe it's the scallions; maybe she's Italian." Franks is simply the best, genius songwriter🤗
Sometimes his timing (vocals) is a little off. Only on live performances, never on albums. I guess that makes it more musically interesting!? Miles Davis talked about how Frank Sinatra’s phrasing/ timing/ rhythm had inspired him when to be on time, and more important, when and how to be off for fractions of a second.
Other than her cute little bouncey moves, I do not care for this version of the song. I don't like the shrill type way she sings it and the big difference in the cadence. Totally changes what made this such a good song. That's the trouble with live versions at times when they alter the songs so much 😢
Who ever post this video, heaven is for you
Amen!
And AMEN X 1000
Been listening to the album The Art of Tea for forty years. Love it still.
Do you know any album similar to the art of tea?

Thanks for the upload, Tim! Have been a huge fan of MF since the seventies. Never knew of this recording on Dutch television.
Amazing. As a dutch citizen, this makes me pretty proud :)
Many thanks for uploading this fabulous rendition. (Such a shame that Michael Franks only performed sporadically in Europe.)
Great chart with the full band behind him. Nice wind and string parts.
Thanks for posting.
Mr. Franks did an interview with Gilles Peterson not too long ago, he's still in fine form and didn't rule out a first UK tour 🙏
Incredible. Do you know any album similar to the art of tea?

Great song, just discovered Mr. Franks recently, but i prefer the studio version with Joe Sample on fender rhodes ;)

"Maybe it's the scallions. Maybe she's Italian."
My ex-husband's nickname was Eggplant. And no, Franks did not write this tune for him. LOL!
Perfect English like Sinatra...
Frank Sinatra has nothing on mr. Frank's!❤️
Is he singing about cooking eggplant or sex ?
Both
@@Andy-fh4gp 🙂
NEVER have sex raw with mayonnaise
Sometimes I have it raw … with mayonnaise.
Geokinda
@@nikitaw1982 La Gioconda is the Italian name for Mona Lisa, which MF refers to in more than one song.

Why does it seems to me this guy may have influenced Buble a tad bit?
