I used this pattern with fringe to make my mother a scarf last Christmas. She is proud and tells everyone her daughter made it! Now she wants others more colors to match her other coats. I recommend this stitch for beginners! Making another soon.
Im so new to knitting and almost given up until I watched your video. I have now completed knitting a scarf and 2 headbands in a less than a week!! Thankyou so much. 💕💕💕
Thanks for the video! I am currently making this scarf for the very first time after watching this video a few days ago. I love that it’s reversible and so easy to make. The perfect project to make for last minute holiday projects.
I just wanted to say thank you so much for your tutorial! Around a week ago my parents found my Grandmother’s bag of wool and knitting needles and asked if I wanted them. She taught me when I was little (she died 19 years ago) and I wondered if I still remembered. Well, I did! I decided to make scarfs for Xmas pressies, but realised a basic knit would look a bit dull. I didn’t even realise there were different size needles for different yarns! 😂 Watching your tutorial (looking up how to knit into the back and how to purl along the way!) has just expanded my knitting ability and confidence and I’m half way through a scarf for my sister in law now! Ive also ordered different yarns for Mum and Mother in law. Your teaching style is amazing. 💕
I'm a beginner at knitting and have been searching for a way to make my very first project and wanted to knit my niece a scarf but just couldn't decide what design to use that would be easy for me to use. Now I don't have to go buy different size needles or yarn but use whatever I want. My niece has bought me several different colors of yarns as a gift to me so using what you just showed us I will begin making her scarf for her.Thank you so much for sharing this
I had a couple of balls of gorgeous yarn. I picked a pattern that wasn't meant for my yarn at all. I'm fairly new to knitting, though advanced with crochet. I was so frustrated. Then I found this video and it was EXACTLY perfect for my yarn. Now I'm moving along, got my confidence back and am creating the most beautiful scarf. Thank you! You're a wonderful teacher and I love, love, love this pattern!
I've made a few of these when I finally felt able to try a set of stitches. I LOVED it. It makes a design, yet as a new knitter, I wasn't too intimated by the set of stitches. Half way through a scarf I had the mantra of "Knit, Knit, Back, Purl, (repeat)"
Your videos are so helpful. I am one those beginner knitters who tried to make a scarf in a stockinette and was so disappointed when it started curling. I used the pattern you just demonstrated and I love it! Thank you!
My granddaughter found some yarn she really loved and asked me to knit her a cap. I used this scarf pattern and turned it into a cap for her. I also knit her a scarf.
I am just starting to knit patterns and learning flicking from your videos. I am going to do this scarf for my husband for practice. Very easy video to follow.
I think this will be my "I want to learn to flick" project. I knit continental and really want to flick. I am almost done with a scarf so this will be my next project. Will be watching your flicking videos over and over to help me. Wish me luck!!!
I’ve made a few scarves with this pattern and they turned out lovely. I have found that by using one size larger needle than recommended for the particular yarn, it seems to look better.
What a fun, easy and impressive looking stitch! At first I’m wondering what to do on row two - seeing it’s the same stitches and this is reversible?!! Game changer! Started my own scarf pronto with some earth tone color transition yarn. Looks fab!
I have only taken one knitting class, where I learned the very basics (cast on, cast out and K's). Then on youtube I learned a couple more things and that was enough to understand this pattern. I am 2/3 done with the scarf I've been knitting with this great, lovely, easy pattern. I stopped for a while because, 90+ °F temps. But it is looking fine... maybe I still need to work on the process of adding a second (or third) ball of yarn, but overall, it is coming out pretty cute.
have only discovered this one row pattern recently and have been using it since then. Sorry that I had not found it long ago. It is so easy to do and looks much better than others I have tried
If you're a combo knitter that holds the yarn in your left hand this patter is unbelievably easy due to the the fact that we normally knit into the the back loop (as as the back loop is the leading leg for combo knitters when the opposite row has that stitch as a purl).
This was the first clothing item I ever knitted - only a few months ago. I forgot to say thanks! Now it’s getting colder in London I’ve been wearing it a lot! Your videos are crystal clear and get right to the point. Many thanks!
Thank you for this. It’s what I need right now. I did just “have my heart broken” by a project. I’m a beginning Knitter (coming from Crochet) and, after knitting a few dishcloths, thought I was ready to make a Sophie Scarf. Worked so carefully for three days, then made a mistake I didn’t know how to correct and pulled the whole thing out. I will try again, but I need a “palette cleanser” in between times. Knitting seems to be such a challenge for me. (Yet, I can crochet very complicated patterns… because I can correct my mistakes!) 🌻🐌🧶💖
Thank you for making this video. I used to knit when I was young but haven't done so in decades and really want to get back into it. This helped me feel like I still might be able to do it. Would love to knit grandkids scarves and this is perfect. After that I would love to try this for blankets for all of them. Thanks again!
By seaming the two long edges together, I transformed my useless 'scroll' into a still-in-use-annually scarf: www.ravelry.com/projects/JessicaJean/1-stitch-intarsia-scarf
You can make a stockinette scarf but you have to make it in the round. A tube won’t curl and the ends can be gathered and add a Pom Pom or you can add fringe!
Thanks, Staci! I recently made this scarf, but I decided to add a stitch (or maybe it was 2? ) so I could slip the first stitch of each row for a chained edge. Otherwise I followed the 4 stitch repeat as written. My scarf pattern came out **totally** different looking but it was really pretty anyway. This video reminded me that I want to make another One Row Scarf, this time just as written. The edges don't really need modification in this pattern anyway. They look straight and neat as is! Gotta love a simple, easy pattern that looks so impressive AND is reversible :)
LOL you mention beginner knitters having their hearts broken after trying to knit a scarf in stockinette stitch... I was unraveling my in-progress scarf as you said that hahaha
love your video, love this scarf, nice scarf for a man, knitting a scarf for my adult son and this is the pattern I will use, making it a bit wider though!
One of my earlier projects was a stockinette scarf and I ended up binding off a third of the way through because it kept curling! I wish I had known about this earlier, but I guess it's never to late to learn!
Ive made this pattern and it turned out beautifully. ..however, the cast on row looks different from row i bound off. Very noticable difference. So in your future vids, could you please show how to bind off in a manner that looks like the cast on row? Thanks!
There is always a little bit of a difference in looks between a standard cast-on (like long tail or knitted CO) and a standard bind-off. I think it is part of the beauty of knitting - I don't see it as a flaw. There really aren't good, sturdy CO and BO techniques that are a perfect match to each other.
This is a Great tutorial, I like the way you show and explain how to do the pattern. Love this pattern. When you cast off do you need to follow the pattern or use a regular cast off ? I also Love your nail polish so pretty.
Stacy, have you ever done tutorials for different kinds of pockets, if not please consider it...slanted and inside pockets especially. Thanks! Btw, this one stitch pattern would make a great dishcloth too, thanks!
If you don’t mind me asking how many cast on did you do..( I know that the pattern called for 26 cast on but I like the width of the one your knitting…. I think I’ve been following you for way over 15 years probably longer and I want to thank you for everything… your videos make it so easy to learn..Thank You
VeryPink , I really want to make this scarf, I think I can donit . This video as with so many, doesn't show your cast on? Do you cast on absolutely the same way for every one of your projects ? how do you cast on, and I'd love to get started on this project. Thank you so much, admire your work.
You can - the stitch combo will work, but you're not going to get the same look of the column of K stitches "popping" off the fabric. I suggest following the pattern as written - knit two through the front loops, knit one through the back loop, purl one.
Hi Deborah. I was taught the same way. The typical “front leg” of each k stitch just sits to the back of my lf needle. I tried it your way. Take K stitch twists but does not “pop”. Naturally our expert here is correct!
If I wanted to knit stripes of colour with this pattern, would that work do you think? Cant wait to give this scarf a go nonetheless! Your videos are great!
I just learned to knit back in November and this was the first project I did as a Christmas gift for my father-in-law. It knitted up great and was perfect for a beginner. Do IT!!!
So I've been doing knit stitches the backward way for several years now. I wanted to know if that affects the result of certain patterns. For example it I'm doing a cable, would it turn out differently if I did my knit stitches the regular way?
Great pattern for a scarf! I'm making one right now! Would this pattern work in a round? Thinking of making a matching hat. Thank you for a great tutorial! ☺
Personally I wouldn't knit stripes, just use one colour. I usually use more colours for plainer stitch patterns and stick to solids for stitch patterns with interesting stitches. These show off the stitch pattern more.

Per the curling issue...Couldn't you just pickup stitches on the short ends, and knit a bit of ribbing or / and crochet along the edge a simple border? _Love_ this pattern! Another project to keep my needles warm. Thanks!
This stitch pattern does NOT curl, so there are no issues. In general, adding a border to a stitch that does curl will help, but sometimes it takes a pretty wide border to make it work.

Im so new to knitting and almost given up until I watched your video. I have now completed knitting a scarf and 2 headbands in a less than a week!! Thankyou so much. 💕💕💕

I have made this scarf from this video: no border needed, and it does indeed lie flat. I would recommend this

I love your tutorials. So easy to follow. I’m uncertain how much yarn I would need. Thank you

Great stitch! Keeps your interest, looks rich! Love the idea for so many projects, blankets, wash clothes, pillow covers.....endless possibilities!
I’ve made a few scarves with this pattern and they turned out lovely. I have found that by using one size larger needle than recommended for the particular yarn, it seems to look better.
How do u knit the other side?
It's amazing how can a simple pattern can create a beautiful scarf like this.
What a fun, easy and impressive looking stitch! At first I’m wondering what to do on row two - seeing it’s the same stitches and this is reversible?!! Game changer! Started my own scarf pronto with some earth tone color transition yarn. Looks fab!
Loved your tutorial❤️
I’m an elderly beginner knitter, making a shall. Ideal stitches for my level
Thank you.

We have a knitting club at my university, I'm going to have to share this with the group!

You do that.

I've been watching you since you had 6,000 subs. Love that you're still going strong! I love your teaching style!

I've never seen this pattern before. I love it. I'll have to give it a try, maybe for the baby blanket I need to knit. Thanks very much.
Paula Monkman-Shortt your comment has just saved me a LONG time searching for a quick and easy (yet elegant) baby blanket. Simply genius. Thanks!!

Since I have started watching your videos....i am hooked on using DPNs to do smaller projects.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm pretty advanced in crochet, but knit projects come out so soft, so I'm thinking of picking it up.

One of the more fun and fast patterns. Really enjoyed it.
Yay! I love reversible scarves! Now I have another pattern to add to my library. Thank you!
I just LOVE the TH-cam knitters! Thanks for sharing this pattern.

What about the 2nd row
Beautiful...can't wait to try....you're very easy to follow. So happy I found your channel!
I have made this several times absolutely love this pattern
Thank you for this pattern. I was looking for a new project and I'm going right out to the craft store to get a pretty yarn.
Love this! Beautiful nails too!
You're such an amazing teacher Staci! Thank you for showing the technique. LOVE this pattern
Thank you so much. I’ll make it. You have beautiful hands.
LOL you mention beginner knitters having their hearts broken after trying to knit a scarf in stockinette stitch... I was unraveling my in-progress scarf as you said that hahaha
Beautiful, easy to understand. Thanks for sharing lady.. ⚘⚘
Can I ask you a question how many stitches did you do for the light grey yarn because I like the wideness of that one
Love this easy scarf pattern.
Knitting one right now.

Found pattern today...LOVE IT! Making one for myself right away. Thx u for sharing.
Love the look of this pattern. Next project!
How many stitches on your grey wool to knit the grey scarf please . Very lovely pattern indeed . Thankyou .
this video is great. i made a grey scarf and it was so beautiful
Thank you so much! You are still my favorite. I just love watching you!

New favorite scarf pattern!
I've made a few of these - so easy, so lusciously squishy!
Really helpful and easy to follow. Thank you
Currently knitting it as we speak! But I keep wondering how on earth would I weave in the tail later. 😅
Love it....i'm going to make a blanket with this pattern!
Very nice pattern!
Thank you for these excellent tutorials! Your explanations are clear and easily understood. love that info on your nail polish is provided, too.
If you don’t mind me asking how many cast on did you do..( I know that the pattern called for 26 cast on but I like the width of the one your knitting…. I followed the pattern exactly, so I cast on 26. :)
It’s so funny how I actually did the stockinette and now I’m doing this scarf without even watching your video
I think I'm going to make my next beanie with this pattern
I like this explanation. Simple to the point, thank you 😊
VeryPink , I really want to make this scarf, I think I can donit . This video as with so many, doesn't show your cast on? Do you cast on absolutely the same way for every one of your projects ? how do you cast on, and I'd love to get started on this project. Thank you so much, admire your work.
I use the long-tail cast-on for almost every project. th-cam.com/video/sN9cNEozOLc/w-d-xo.html
Love your design.
I love the pattern. Beautiful!
Thank you for this video. I was looking for a beginner scarf pattern.
Could I turn this into a infinity scarf? By just joining the edges once I reach my desired langth?
The result is so pretty!!!
I made this pattern
Very easy just need to concentrate
To remember the stitches 🧵
I remembered 1,2,3,4 then again 1,2,3,4.
It worked😊😊👍🏼🧶🧶
If I already knit in the back loop always (just how I was taught), would I do the "reverse" here - k2tbl, k1tfl, p? Thanks!
You can - the stitch combo will work, but you're not going to get the same look of the column of K stitches "popping" off the fabric. I suggest following the pattern as written - knit two through the front loops, knit one through the back loop, purl one.
OK. Thanks!
Hi Deborah. I was taught the same way. The typical “front leg” of each k stitch just sits to the back of my lf needle. I tried it your way. Take K stitch twists but does not “pop”.
Naturally our expert here is correct!
I was trying to figure out why my scarf wasn't working (or rather, was looking like a plain ol' k3p1 ribbing). At least now I know!
I so love this pattern! I love how it looks and very easy to do!
Could this be used for ribbing on a sweater /? love your video
pattern : knit 2, knit 1 through the back loop, purl 1 (repeat)
Thank you for sharing this! Very easy and quick. I love it.
nice pattern, i will try to make one hopefully it turns good...thank you.😊
If I wanted to knit stripes of colour with this pattern, would that work do you think? Cant wait to give this scarf a go nonetheless! Your videos are great!
I love easy knitting. thank you for sharing ☺
I really like your tutorial videos!
I'm still a beginner and this looks pretty easy.
I just learned to knit back in November and this was the first project I did as a Christmas gift for my father-in-law. It knitted up great and was perfect for a beginner. Do IT!!!
When binding off, can I just bind off using the pattern?
So I've been doing knit stitches the backward way for several years now. I wanted to know if that affects the result of certain patterns. For example it I'm doing a cable, would it turn out differently if I did my knit stitches the regular way?
If I wanted to use this pattern on the round what stitches would I use on every other row seeing as I’d be going round instead of back and forth
Great pattern for a scarf! I'm making one right now!
Would this pattern work in a round? Thinking of making a matching hat.
Thank you for a great tutorial! ☺
I think you can find the instructions for working this in-the-round on Ravelry...people have designed hats to match this scarf.
Please could you tell me how many balls of yarn this would need... and could I knit stripes grey and white....or best one colour. Thank you
Personally I wouldn't knit stripes, just use one colour.
