  • FL Studio producers are still mad at DJ Khaled for a Hot 97 interview that happened 7 years ago. Over a comment about “Fruity Loops being too easy.”. The same can be said about any DAW but “FL Gang” is sensitive af. You can’t make this stuff up!😂😂😂

I only have 1 issue with the clips you shared from the interview.
He said something along the lines of "it takes a great producer like me, to tell those sounds are garbage. They're fake".
No shit. But here's the problem. I use fl studio to make beats. I've uploaded several to your live streams. The first one I uploaded on your review stream (my original version of my beat Glitch), featured a guitar part that you specifically touched on. You turned the volume down, and said, "oh, and you know when someone uses a real guitar to make their beats because you can hear the feedback from the strings in the beat".
But I've never used an actual guitar on my beats. I have a guitar, but no way to get the guitar sound into my DAW. I use the guitars from the Flex plug-in. If you lift off from the midi keys just right, you'll get that feedback you mentioned.
That's not a shot at you. All I'm saying is that what Khalid said isn't necessarily true for all cases.
I use fl studio BECAUSE it's an easy DAW to use, and I can't afford all that gear that everyone else has. I have a laptop, the M-Audio Code 49, and a Yamaha P-45.
    And it works for me.
I'm not the best, but I'm very talented and I have great potential.
That's why I don't really care what the "pros" say. As a growing artist, that's the way it should be.
I'll get to that level some day. But for now, I'm happy with what I can do with what I have. One step at a time.

Rather FL studio is easy or not or rather making a beat is easy or not is irrelevant as long as at the end of the day good music is being made. Why would we want it to be hard anyway? Programs like FL studio became popular because of the fact that they made things easier so that producers can concentrate on just making good music and not learning a bunch of knobs. At the end of the day we just want to make good music not master equipment. When did making it easier to create good music become a taboo? Also, it is easy to do what DJ Khaled does and just because we are not on his level of success doesn't mean it's hard. What's hard is getting the connections you need to break into the game because we all know it is rigged and it is not what you know but who you know. There's a talented rapper on every block but the game is full of none talented gimmicks because it's not about the art anymore it's about the business. Everyone knows that rapping is easy but breaking into the game is hard. This is why none talented rappers who know how to break into the game are more likely to succeed than talented rappers with no connections!

I thought hiphop was birthed off f synth drums and sounds. Let's not forget that your MPC is also a computer...The process of creating music is supposed to be easy! The fact that anyone can compose their ideas in seconds does not take away from their skill level or make them less than someone who takes 10 hours to record one track of their ideas through prehistoric gear.

That Khaled beat could be on some New Jack Swing lol. One thing I give credit and respect to Khaled is that he credits his beatmakers as co-producers. There are other big producers out there who don't. Nothing wrong with being just a beatmaker & songwriter tho. Most of my biggest placements are from me doing the beat and getting songwriting and programming credit. Yeah, I would've liked to get producer credits too, but it took me years to learn that everyone plays a different role, and it also depends on who you work with. I got platinum plaques & awards off em so I'm def not complaining.

Bob Dylan said it best with The times are a changin'. Old people have always been arguing analog vs digital, Dj Khaled is just showing his age Personally, who cares...just make music. An Mpc isn't going to make you legit, neither will a good beat. Its about the song, the performance and the mix.

Everyone has said the difference between a beat maker in a producer Dr. Dre Pharrell Jermaine Dupri the west goes on I’m glad you address of this Ave. instead of people complaining about something that doesn’t even matter they need to take that energy and focus on trying to make a career and a platform for themselves so they could get an audience don’t hate the player hate the game I tell people peep the game and understand it and study it thanks for your video Ave.

No one has to make excuses because of some retard shit that big-headed coked out narcissist said a decade ago likely blitzed out of his goard at the time. Programs and hardware all operate the same way at the moment- they only do what they are programmed to do. So no matter way you slice it the secret sauce is always what's in your brain. The tools are just tools to help you- and you're absolutely allowed to use whatever the hell you want and you don't have to feel bad about it or make excuses about it. Matthew Dear made a whole album by only recording sounds using items in his kitchen. He used his kitchen and a digital audio recorder...no keyboard, so drums, no piano, etc. (He had to have used a sampler/sequencer, though, I don't remember the details). If you watch Woodstock (the 1960s original movie filmed at the festival) there's a part where they had to stop the music on the stage for a while due to rain...so the kids in the crowd start banging on whatever's around to create this organic unplanned collaborative group rhythm. It's a beautiful thing to see/hear. Once at a rave in Chicago, the warehouse filled with 2000-3000 ravers was busted after an hour or two...so the promoters had a backup plan and told everyone where to go after they left that spot. About 1000 people made it to the backup warehouse- a chopshop. There wasn't a sound system yet or lights NOTHING...just 1000 kids and some stolen cars and a lot of empty warehouse to dance. So someone started pounding on some piece of metal and everyone joined in and these girls started to dance with their glowsticks to the mettalic thuds. It was the modern version of the Woodstock thing. My point is we had nothing to make music with- so we improvised. Snoop/Pharell's DROP IT LIKE IT'S HOT caught everyone's attention when it came out because of one thing- it basically revived the human beatbox...shortly after you get dubfx and all these beatbox battles with people taking that artform through the atmosphere and beyond the galaxy. The shit they do today JUST WITH THEIR TONGUES, AND TEETH, ETC...is a million times more complex than THE FAT BOYS (and the Human Beatbox) but it didn't cost them anything. We all have a "drum computer" literally right in the front of our faces. Just gotta practice.

    • @pprophet

one thing i hate the most about this culture is that too many people only talk about making music like its a fuckin hustle, like its just one more way to make a bag, and not like actually creating art, which is supposed to be the whole idea of making music. If music really is becoming soulless these days that mindset is 1000% one of the biggest reasons why. Fewer and fewer people in this new generation treat music like an art, and instead just another way to make money.

    @CyclonX ปีที่แล้ว

I appreciate you promoting healthy discussion about this sort of thing, and regardless of material, it's definitely an old interview and you know damn well Khaled has knowingly worked with producers who've used FL lol. I do think there is something to be said about gatekeeping when it comes to getting into music production. Like a lot of artistic mediums (photography, cinematography, painting/drawing, etc) the shift of industry standard programs becoming more readily available to consumers over the last decade and a half has only inspired more creative minds to get into the game. Sure, you can get some used gear at a good deal from thrifting or someone you know, but a lot of peeps don't have those connections or know-how, and accessible DAWs are just the new step in the door (or entire way of producing for some) and give the little guys even more of a chance, so there's no need for the hate. The same industry OGs that get heated bout hardware are also kinda the same ones who unlawfully sampled classics back in the day and paid for the ignorance later. We all got our own way of going about it.
To put it short, the workflow doesn't make you, the passion and talent make up who you are as an artist. Don't let the TH-cam FL Studio tutorial TH-camrs or the Hardware Elitests tell you have to do it. Use whatever DAW you want, use any hardware that works for you. Thanks for keeping it real Ave 👍
