    A very likable band that had no musical significance at all. Almost laughably bad. But somehow they were marketable.

    • @TTM9691
      @TTM9691 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, a swing and a miss. "Marketable"? What world were you living in? They were a rock & roll band, in the great tradition of the garage rock of the 60s (which is the bedrock of what turned into punk which everyone pretends was so great, so......wrong. They were one of THE first new wave bands so.....right there, there's the "musical significance" that you music-hating dilettantes are always searching for. A "likable band" is musically significant. Not a musician, are you? (Or is it that you're a lousy one?)

      @@TTM9691 New wave like Bowie? Talking Heads? Elvis Costello? Blondie? The cars?Devo?
      Those bands worst songs are better crafted than the B52s best.
      When I heard Fred rap on love shack the 1st time, I thought it was a comedy song from weird Al. As far as me being a bad musician, your off there too. I have been in rock bands, jazz bands, and orchestras since I was 11. And I graduated from a top music conservatory. That being said, my opinion is no more important than yours. And I am glad you love music. We just disagree on this bands musical abilities. And all of the band members are really nice people. Which is even more important than their music. Peace.

    • @TTM9691
      @TTM9691 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rman52 Ok, first off: Bowie isn't New Wave so..... Secondly, who is talking about "better crafted songs"? And I don't find ANY of the people you mentioned (INCLUDING The B52s) as having perfect discographies, with every song being "well-crafted" so.... I'm sorry you don't understand anything about rock & rolll, or music, or definitely "new wave", but when you grow a brain, you let me know. I never said they were the best band ever, and if there's anything I don't need explained to me, it's this era of music. You obviously do. (And PS: wrong: B52s have lots of well-crafted songs INCLUDING "Rock Lobster". "Dance This Mess Around". "Roam" is a beautiful song. I don't know that you know what "well-crafted" is, to be honest. People like you are what ruined rock & roll. PSS: My day beats your year. (Remember?) (Didn't think so. LOL)

    • @TTM9691
      @TTM9691 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rman52 PSS: Oh my god, I didn't even finish reading your hilarious comment, I'm even MORE embarrassed for you! "Love Shack" which came out TEN YEARS LATER, IS a comedy record, you half-wit! Practically ALL of the B52s songs have humor in them! Holy fuck are you a jackass or what?? And you're babbling to me about your credentials? I've been drumming since I was a toddler, you dummy! I played in youth orchestras and have been playing in rock & roll (and jazz) bands since I was 12! Plus I'm a songwriter! Other artists have covered my material! So you can flush your "experience" down the toilet as far as I'm concerned! Holy fuck! You think it's less "crafted" because it's funny? Kid, you're a MORON. PSSS: The Cars were the WORST of all the bands mentioned, I can't even believe you're citing them as "new wave". You obviously weren't alive at that time, so just SHUT UP. You're mediocrity incarnate.

      @@rman52 I guess it depends on what you call "significance". It's quite well documented that hearing the B-52s motivated John Lennon to start recording again. In interviews, he said that Kate and Cindy's vocalizing reminded him of what Yoko Ono would do with The Plastic Ono Band. He told Yoko that it's "our time again" based on hearing the B-52's.
      I think that's pretty significant.
