zeroing in on Zombified: I'm watching this again, as a bit of a news junkie. By that, I mean that I bombard myself, intentionally and quite a bit, with reports and clips of what people say and do. I'm ever making my own decisions on whether or not the words and actions I'm seeing will hold any longstanding relevance to the world at large or simply to myself. And, watching this video again, I'm struck with this thought. Now, don't get me wrong. I totally dig Ronnie's music, particularly these days. And, I do rather cherish the notion he's expressing, of how we can lose our voices in the face of a judgmental audience. I, too, value people that can still be authentic and outspoken... I value the sheer awareness that all of us are developing entities and, thus, worthy of a reassessment with each passing moment. No matter how long we are remembered unkindly, for something, by some, we are all so much more than sum of our worst mistakes. BUT I also think we are living in a time where cancel culture exists to the extent it that it does precisely BECAUSE our society is questioning its own ability to hold fast to it's better angels or to, simply, hold it's obviously bad actors accountable. We are all so fed up with hypocrisy. When politicians complain about counsel culture while simultaneously calling thinking citizens "woke" (derogatorily), that is a problem. We rarely ever experience grace and maturity. Few acknowledge their mistakes, apologize for the harm they've caused, and find a beautiful new leaf to turn over. Instead, we have all gotten entirely too used to feeling disgusted. That, too, is a problem. I'm, personally, waiting for a time when each of us can be ourselves and honest and reflective and dynamic and courageous and aware and open and kind, all at the same time. Somehow, I do keep the faith that that is possible. I don't even find the notion naïve. Until then, though, you will find me rockin' out, knowing exactly how stuck we all feel, thanking God for music's ability to sweep in and give us a space to decompress... a space to process reality and to ask ourselves if we are a reflection of it or if it is a reflection of us.
