WE MUST SAY GOODBYE,
AND THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
Just last week, our Administrative Assistant, Jan Cunningham, informed me that she would
be leaving Savannah and the Cathedral, and returning to her home of Stockton, Kansas. Her father, who is ninety-one years old lives alone and is in need of her help. Jan also has a daughter and son in law who live about four hours away in Denver, Colorado, who are dealing with serious health
problems. Her departure will be a great loss for the Cathedral, but we are happy that she will be
able to take care of her loved ones.
Jan has worked for the Cathedral for the past twenty-one years. She has been the parish
secretary, the parish bookkeeper and payer of all bills, the person responsible for payroll, W-2’s,
1099’s, and tax statements, the keeper of the wedding calendar and manager of all our wedding
reservations, a decorator for the Rectory, the one who wraps my Christmas presents, and the one to
keep me on track with all Cathedral business. And there are so many more things. She has a wealth
of institutional memory which will be sorely missed.
In her letter of resignation she wrote: “My work background for twenty years was medical
office management. I never dreamed I would work for twenty-one years in a place as magnificent as
the Cathedral. It was a miracle to be offered the job and a privilege every day to walk through the
door…I wish you and all the Cathedral employees and parishioners the best. I will miss it every
day.”
Jan’s last day of work will be Tuesday, March 5, 2024. On behalf of all of us, I want to thank
her for her great work, for her dedication, loyalty and love for the Cathedral and its parishioners. We
will miss her, and we will pray for her father, daughter and son-in-law.
Monsignor J. Gerard Schreck,
Rector
