I have lived through 3 Tornados and we always went into the basement and my Dad and one of my brothers would watch to see the track of the tornado and watch to see if it shifted. Our house was over one hundred years old and built with beams and wooden pins pounded into the oak. In a few places there were steel, square head nails. We were safe because of the craftsmanship that went into building that house, what a shame there is not that quality now in our advanced, modern time. Power outages get a Generac Generator it won't run your whole house, but it will keep the heating or cooling and your Refrigerator up and running. And it increases the resale value of your home.

11:30 Hurricane Hugo of 89 when it came thru Charlotte, no fun at all. one of the most scary things ever. It wasn't expected to come so far inland but when it hit the coast, it picked up speed so when it hit the coast, so here we still had like 90mph winds. It was scary for sure. Keep your phone charged because we all have flashlight apps on those now.

I was in a tornado once, we were in our car, and yes it was very bad and very scary how close we came to getting pulled up inside of its F4 vortex. I still thank the Lord above that we made it. However, in an earthquake, the ground is moving so when trying to get away isn't even an option, is scarier to the max I would imagine. No thank you. I was born in California, but no way can I live with all of those earthquakes. Thanks for sharing, your talks are so entertaining., and kind of addicting and always draws everyone in, so keep talking and stay safe. ❤😊

I was in a church meeting, in the Sanctuary of my church (Augusta, ME), when I experienced the earthquake from Gray, ME. Church lights flickered, the chandeliers 2 1/2 stories over our heads were violently shaking, I thought sure they would break off and come crashing down. And I've experienced many hurricanes in the Northeast. Gloria was a good one. My mom was in Hurricane Carol. Caskets were floating down her neighborhood from the flooding river. And you cant beat the Blizzard of 1978. I was turning 6 that year. Snow fell so fast and hard that motorists got stuck on major highways during their work commute. It was so bad, they had to leave their cars and trudge through feet of snow to get somewhere warm and safe. The cars sat there for many days, maybe longer, I forget. I had a blast though! LoL ❤ Good Times

The best part of Maine is that we’re not normally subjected to extreme/major weather events or earthquakes. By the time hurricanes reach the state they have been downgraded to tropical depressions or low grade hurricanes.
Outside of the 78 blizzard and the 1999 ice storm, everything else has been business as usual (normal expected weather) in the last 60 years. Sure we have had sizable blizzards (several feet) from time to time, but that’s Maine - “The way life should be”.
The major complaint from where I live in southwestern Maine, in the lakes region, is regular power outages. In this month alone with no weather events, we have lost it at least six times. This is a regular occurrence throughout the year for over a decade. They blame it on everything except the most likely reason, the most prevalent - the equipment is not being properly maintained and upgraded based on the current needs. A common problem that’s also being encountered in other states. Losing power in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s was such a rare occurrence that most Mainers didn’t bother buying generators.
That’s not the case anymore and many have their entire house wired to a generator. 1st world solutions to a third world problem in the US.

Enjoyed listening to you Scott and your side kicks. lol j/k Really enjoy the stories. I live here in Southern Tier of Upstate New York, and when we do get the power outage here in rural New York State.. The 5500 watt portable generators come out after the 5-8 hour threshold because of the frig factor. If it's a power outage duing winter the 5500 watt generator gets fireed up to bring power to the furnace. Matter of fact lol we had a short 30-45 minute power outage last night aroud 3 am. lol Go figure. Take care Scott & the very best to the Family. : )

I was in the 1994 Northridge earthquake in LA. I already had plans to move from LA, but when the earthquake hit… I remember thinking OMG I'm not gonna make it out of here alive! I actually lived in Orange County at the time but was staying in a house in Santa Monica Canyon on the day the earthquake hit - it was so incredibly loud it sounded like a freight train was coming through the house. I was afraid the plate glass window next to the bed where I was sleeping might break, but it didn't. I wanted to get up out of bed and stand in the doorway… But it was so strong I couldn't even get out of bed and stand up. It's probably a good thing because the books that fell off the bookcase in the room might have knocked me out!
One thing I do remember is how amazing it is how people come together and help each other… the house I was staying in was not mine and the neighbors helped us find the gas main to turn it off, because you could smell it was leaking. We did our best to comfort the German Shepherd who was with us because she kept feeling the smaller aftershocks that we couldn't as well as the ones we could.
One of the other memories I have is how there was a rush of people going to the gas stations to fill up their cars... lines and lines of cars at the gas stations that day.
If I recall correctly, I think I was actually able to make a call through the car phone I had in my car at that time so I could call my family and let them know I was OK - since some of the phone lines were out for a while also.
But, at least parts of the city were able to start functioning again reasonably normally several hours later as I remember going out to lunch with friends.

Words of wisdom from Scott. Worst storm here in Jersey was Sandy, end of October 2012. Devastation everywhere, the worst of it down the shore. NY & CT too. First earthquake here this past spring. Terrifying!! Thought planes were landing on my roof & every tree was falling down. Went to a window. It was tilting to the side & the ground was wavy/rolling. Still hoping my foundation didn't sustain any damage that would rear it's ugly head in the future.

I usually have my ceiling fan going, my floor fan and my smartphone white noise going on; when the alarm is about to go off for a second or two the white noise will stop, and I wake up; I was just telling that to someone in church about it! At first I thought I was just programmed to get up at that time but nope the sound stops and I wake up lol

I was driving cross country and stopped for gas. Weird. The lights were all off and all of the pumps were lying on the ground. I picked the nozzle up off the ground and a dude came running out, yelling. I'm like, "what?" He was yelling, "there's a tornado! A TORNADO!!" Huh. It was about 11pm and raining. I went inside, got a burger to go, then kept driving to a non-tornado gas station where I could get some gas. No biggee. The people inside looked horrified by my decision. I'm from MN. The tornado was gone. Gimme some gas or I'll go somewhere that will. No hail, no straight line winds. People, your tornado is gone. Move it along.

It seems like the electric is constantly going out over the past few years. I got fed up w it & purchased a whole house backup generator. The best thing I've ever done. As far as hurricanes are concerned, they are not cool & are very scary. The wind sounds like a train going through your house, the house shakes sometimes due to 60+ mph wind gusts, & there's always the danger of severe flooding which can trap you in your house. Then there's the whole evacuation process which is expensive & exhausting.
