There really is such an almost indefinable thing as 'star quality' and Sarah certainly has it all. I've seen it so many times before.
It often comes down to something as simple as NOT being afraid of having a lens pointed at you - which causes many people to run for cover.
The best of TV presenters make it look very easy and it is not. Sarah is a 'natural'; ... just a bit of mentoring and it's all there.

Some "experts" denounced the Marina as an awful car especially for handling. I often drove my colleague's Marina and found it a nice car to drive. It was a car to get from a to b in comfort. It's not for burning rubber or screaming round corners, nor should it be. Well done for finding such a good one.

    • @phillipwood9833
      @phillipwood9833 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I had two Marina's 1.8 Coupe and a 1.8 TC Jubilee., great cars. (yes I know it's not a Marina. . . bloody close though) Easily as easy to drive as a contemporary Escort, Avenger or a Hunter. As for not Burning rubber or screaming round corners... speak for your self. . . certainly taught me a load about car handling, sideways on a regular basis long before "Drifting" became trendy.

Interesting ramp. It makes everything so much easier. I just have floor ramps which raise the car about eight inches. I'd put a sound-deadening pad under the bonnet - muffles the engine noise a lot. Love the wind-up windows. Shame it doesn't have front head rests. I used to own a 1974 Fiat X1/9 the same colour as your Ital. Love your accent, haven't heard the word 'gander' in years.

Just sitting in cars from this era is an evocative experience. I was born in 1965 so 70s & early 80s cars were part of my childhood. The perfume of an old car is almost spiritual. I sat in a 70s Vauxhall Viva a while back and it was fascinating. You don't realise how far cars have come. The Viva felt antiquated in comparison but it had soul. The cars that have survived have so many memories. Just think of the stories they could tell. Trips to the seaside, lifts to school, taking dad to work, bringing home the vesta meals and the Ski yogurts. They're time machines!

People rubbished these cars but the police used Itals and their cars driven 3 shifts 24/7 so must have been reliable. Love these ramps too, how easy, i used to have a pit in the garage but was always full of water. The amount of room you have to work in the engine bay, and the simplicity, why cant we have cars like this now. I lived in Longbridge where LEYLAND cars were built. The govt of the time sold them out whilst the French govt bailed out PSA who were in the same trouble. I had several Austin 1100 and 1300s and one twin su carb one. So comfortable.

I had the Van version (Ex Gas Board, kept the livery :-) in the very early 90's. It was like the Tardis, could get all my plastering gear inside, including stands, hop-ups & Water Butt .... Never let me down in about 3 years until I took it to Mr Clutch for a new one (Didn't need it, but I thought - About time) Went to drive it away, it wouldn't start!! ... I barked at manager, he got it looked at - broken distributor cap - he said 'I' must've done it - HUH!! ?? .... After many hours waiting for part to arrive, it didn't! - Had to go back next day to collect it - Their worker accepted the blame so cost me no more ..... BUT! - that experience left that old Van PERMANENTLY engraved into my memory - Don't know why they used to get so much Flak! :-)

To Aaron Ibbetson : your mum and I would be pals, then! I only had ONE Allegro ( it lasted so long).I got mine when it was already 9 years old I sold it when it was 21 years old ( no rust). It had been anti rust treated from New. And I actually LIKE the shape - which to me looks "cute and cuddly". I don't care WHAT some people say - often they pick on cars that don't cost a fortune to buy - so they are just being snobs and deny anybody the right to own a Hillman Imp, or anything affordable.

    Hi !!!
    ...
Great old car .... just a very small suggestion ???
    ...
Next time the spark plugs are out ... maybe just spraying some very light release oil down into the bores and then squiring just a few drops of 2-stroke oil to lubricate the piston rings ???
    ...
And even a small amount of 2-stroke just added to a gallon of petrol and you'll find the engine will drive more quiet !!!
    ...
    GREAT OLD CAR THOUGH !!!

      @@Sarah-CrabbersCrabtree My Pleasure !!!
      ...
Try and avoid WD40 but any high quality penetrating oil ... then just crank the engine for a few second with the plugs out !!!
      ...
(it will be the first time in 40 years the top piston rings have enjoyed any oil..as they were "oiled" when fitted new)
      ...
Then just a few drops of 2-stroke then pop the old plugs back in and start "him" up and it'll "smoke" but the engine will appreciate it !!!
      ...
But ... Oh dear ... AREN'T NEW CARS SO BORING !!!
      ...
Your old car would look by the seaside :-)
      ...
      MANY THANKS

John Parkinson, my Mum had a lovely one in dark (nautilus) blue, with the broad shadow stripe down the lower part of the doors! This was only on early models, and then they reverted to the thin trim along the waistline, which made it look like the Marina again.(what was the point of that?)

I had a Morris Ital 1.3 SLX in a red/orange colour back in the early 90s, it was destined for the scrappers. I gave £50 for it, took it for mot and it passed without having to do anything to it. It was a great car.

Nice solid car, I’d probably get it under sealed and wax oil parts that are especially prone to rust like sills and inner wings, I have a Rover so agreed British cars are the best, British Leland and Austin Rover are awesome.

Top Tip make sure you have the correct filter before draining the oil lol...I do love how the stuff of my youth is so easy to work on ,all that space in the engine bay..I saw the DAS sticker in the screen .is that a german insurance company ? possibly owned by a squaddie at some time ..If not idling probably requires new plugs ,points , condensor, airfilter ,and an overhaul kit for the carb ...And not a fault code required lol..Steering possible the Trunions needing done ,adjusted or just greasing...Most run off are for HGVs as when then had drums all round they would get brake fade

Great video, thanks for sharing, just a little point, always fill the new oil filter before refitting, so you give the engine half a chance on start up. So you’re not sucking up on a dry pump. 😉👍🏻
