    you know what? This is amazing that you've taken the time to do this. I've been looking for EXACTLY THIS type of shelter for a backpacking trip up in the Sawtooths in Idaho at the end of the month. It seems like almost nobody is willing to make a hybrid product that gives you the best of both worlds: tent privacy and hammock comfort, for a decent price. I've seen some hot tents that do that, but most of them are overkill for what I need and too expensive. and I've also seen the suspended tent idea, which just doesn't appeal to me. I like to sleep suspended, but during the day, I prefer solid ground and a place to store my gear out of the elements. I definitely have the ability to get a little sewing done and to improve upon this.
    I don't like how floppy it seems, and I think I might improve that with not just adding an extra pull-out in the middle but attaching it on the inside to a stick that connects the other end pullouts. We'll see if that's a good or bad idea
    I also respect your candid views and budget-minded attitude. We need more people like you.
    Curious if you have tried it out yet and how it held up. I'm pretty sure I will buy it and try it out for about a week and I will post a review.

      Thanks for the comments. No, I have not tried it on any trips. Actually, haven't upgraded it at all. Hopefully the wife will get to it before the cold weather comes around.
      I am always looking for budget items that people can afford. Once in a while an expensive item comes around but I try to avoid them as many others have already posted videos on those products.
      I look forward to seeing what you do for all of that floppy material. It can be quite nice for someone that can sew.

    Mmm Interesting, Ive never hammock camped before. Do you ever struggle with finding a spot with trees etc? I am looking for something that one or two people can used light weight backpacking.. too bad two hammocks couldnt fit in side by side. I also am concerned about using for a tent without a hammock or even just sitting in it at night before bed when there are lots of mosquitoes or ticks running around! How about in winds!?

      Hi and thanks for responding. As to your question about finding places and trees to hang from. Yep, there are times when it is difficult to find the right distances between trees but we generally can figure a way to get it done if there are trees to use. As your learn how to set up a hammock you will learn the vatious things that do if trees are too far apart or too close. Too close isn't something we run into but too far apart is. We just add a strap to one side and place it higher on one tree so that the contact point of the hammock is at the regular desired location. And two hammocks can easilt be pace next to one another. I made an adjustable spreader bar that my wife and I use all of the time. ENO has a set available for just that purpose.
      We have netting on our hammocks and the hammocks without can be covered by a netting made for that purpose. I will post a link below here to one such hammock. Windes can be an issue but I have found that bug netting helps buffer them some. A tarp properly hung and secured can also help. It is the utdoors and some things just cannot be avoided. That is part of the charm. ANd there are tents made to hammock hang in. I also did a vidoe on one such tent. Look inmy video list for that one.

      @@bobamos3628 Thanks Bob, I saw a video on spreader bars, but it was said that when one person moves a bit, they end up bumping up and disturbing the other persons sleep! ?

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JediStockTrader Yes, think of it as a regular bed mattress. If one person on the mattress move the second person feels it. It can be more so in a hammock and if one is out of their hammock the second will sag way down and rise when the person re-enters their hammock. Not a big issue but it does take a little practicing to get it locked in. My wife and I sleep tandum and we are use to the movement. I found that using one bar at the head and hanging our foot ends on opposite sides of the same tree. (The suspension leaving the tree 180 degrees apart) lowers the movement and our feet are closer to one another but there is plenty of room if the tree is wide.

    I agree that there are areas that could use improvement, but it still seems to be a decent product for under $60. If you start adding reinforcements all over, improving stake quality, etc… the price would definitely go up

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree with you on this. It is sort of worth the sub $60 price and a price increase would be needed to upgrade it. But, either they do the upgrades or we do. I do not see this lasting long without them. Just a few more steps would have made this one nice tent. Thinking in terms of labour costs in China, those few extra steps would not be overly expensive and the added cost would be small and fine with me. To me, there are certain basic limits that must be met to make an item worth spending my hard earned money on. This is just a few steps below that level as it presently is. As a result, mine actually ended up on the shelf and has not seen the light of day since the video. Thanks for the comment.

    After watching your video my main concern also is the corner tie outs pulling out. To head this off i would just preemptively use the tarp clips and put them on the tie outs before they fail. They should grip well on the tie out where its attached to the tent fabric

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that is a very weak point of this tent. To be honest, I just have not found a real use for this thing. After the video it went into its stuff sack and has been sitting in the storage closet. I may bring it out some day and that just installing some mechanical pullouts as a permanent fix. Thanks for your input.
