Joey, I move Swift, and other containers all day as a yard jockey, but never once received training on containers, and really appreciate this info. We have a particular corner around the back of our yard that has an incline, and the containers get to leaning. We are also in a very wind prone location at the base of the Cajon Pass. 30-50mph gusts. If one of these containers was unlocked, I could definitely see it being a serious situation. I will be looking at these pins from now on. Thank you!

I am a yard jockey for Anheuser Busch(Budweiser) And we have a couple of these intermodal containers at our plant and they are by far the most dangerous I got guys I work with who tell me they’ve dropped fully loaded and her models before and they were lucky the truck didn’t go with it the center of gravity on these trailers are pretty high which makes it sketchy moving them around corners and especially picking them up that’s why I raise my fifth wheel a couple inches and slam on the gas to see if I’m really connected. I hear ya they are a little different than the average trailer

Excellent video. The buck stops with the professional truck drivers. Always check everything on the truck and trailer prior to your departure from every stop you make. Seen a video when someone disconnected the fifth wheel while the driver was inside the building of a truck stop. That is a malicious act which should be criminal. Everytime you stop and walk away from that truck, check everything before your departure. If anything goes wrong the blame will be yours. Dont drive angry, exercise good judgement and stop when you are tried. Stay safe.

They call it a pretrip inspection and it is mandatory for that very reason. As professional drivers who are responsible for load securement and the safety of our equipment, we are mandated to verify such and attest that we did perform said action. It's right there with verifying tire pressures and king pin securement yet many don't. Get bit once and hopefully won't require a second nip. I had an issue with king pin being pulled onetime which certainly has influenced my pre, mid & post trip routine.

When it comes to trucking you cannot depend on anyone to say your truck is good to go no matter what the driver will be blamed for anything that goes wrong. Pre trip truck and trailer every time you stop never get complacent because you drive everyday and that’s your truck . Trucks are oversized vehicles , it’s a good reason for having a special license to drive them . I hate to say it but I see a lot of truck drivers who drop down to car drivers level you are the professional they average driver have no sense of how a commercial vehicles operate. So always be the professional and give in to the everyday car driver because they really don’t know what it takes and the discipline to be a safe driver . DOT considers you as been the most trained driver on the road .

Now I know a lot of drivers don’t do that because they’re skipping shit to get that shit going to make some money and that’s not acceptable

You'd be surprised then how secure these containers are on a chassis. Certainly a good habit to make sure you lock all 4 pins. Now JB hunt containers, I've seen these slide off the goose neck just by a yard jockey turning a little quick (under any other circumstances being a regular 53 container it would have been fine).

Why do they use plastic zip-ties instead of metal seals

Some companies use them. Some don’t

I appreciate your video..However you b didn't check your tires with a sledgehammer... that's another major issue with intermodal....or the container is sitting on top of the pins or pin.... If your going to talk about it...Let's really talk about it.

You're going to blame the company for a individuals fUp you're a sad excuse. Nobodies perfect it's not the companies fault if you screw up. It's the schools and trainers job to give the trainee the skills needed to be a successful driver. However, it is on the trainee to learn and use COMMON SENSE on the road since driving isn't Rocket science, oh perfect one. Also every company has their share of screw ups just look at you think you're better yet you judge which you have no right. There are good drivers and bad drivers. Don't put hate on the company or all the drivers because of a few bad drivers. Even you had to start somewhere. Worry about yourself do the job and shut the hell up.
