Looking at the data I get from my Emporia Vue, I can see my central AC only adds around 2000w when it's on. I have no problems powering my entire home, which includes 2 refrigerators, a freezer, and well pump, with a WGen5500. I suppose if everyone of the motors decided to come on at the same time there may be a startup surge issue, but have not had a problem in the times I've had to use it in the 3 years that it's been setup.
Great video thanks! Just bought this model for the same reason. Anyone who went through that Texas ice storm understands the value of a good generator!
Just got the same generator. We've been talking about getting a generator for a long time. We don't lose power often. But !! You never know. 3 days after we ordered it folks were without power for 3-4 days around us. We never lost power but I'm glad we got it now. Planning on getting a natural gas conversion for it as well.
You really want to let the motor break in. Before you turn it on grab the pull start and pull a few times so the oil gets in there. There’s all kinds of ways to do it, but when I get a new motor I run it for about an hour with no load, swap oil, run at 25% for 4 hours, swap oil, then you should be good to go
That thing will power your entire home no problem! Furthermore, make sure you turn your AC way down! You don’t want that compressor turning off and on as that’s hard on your GEN! Your entire home is prob putting it about 20-25amps w/AC and that sucker will have no prob with AC and whole home - AC and dryer at same time.
Thankyou for the advice also, my hot water heater is electric too. I have a deep water well too. Was hoping to run 1-14000but, 2- 6000 but window units, water well, Ice-box, and lights. Well leave the central AC off.
@@dalebourgeois9851 👍 just be careful with the AC units! That’s a lot of draw and you’ll know if you start tripping your breaker. You don’t want to pull over 30amps. Cheers!
I just bought mine today from Home Depot. Pick it up in a few days. Can't wait. I want to hook it straight up to the panel and when the power goes out, all I have to do is flick a switch and turn it on to run central ac and the fridge. Any tips on doing it inexpensively? Thanks for the video bro..
I hired an electrician to install a 50 amp inlet.. it wasn’t cheap since it was right after/middle of a snow storm. But try Amazon they have it for sale there
Hello I just recently purchased the 9500df generator. It came with one quart of oil. The capacity rating for the motor according to the manual is approximately 1.1 QT and I put at least that much in there and it barely shows on the stick... just the tip of the stick. So I'm kind of confused because it shows the capacity to be a little over a quart and I put at least that much in. Yet it barely shows on the tip of the dipstick. The unit is sitting on level ground. Can you help? thank you!
I had a similar observation and thought that I did not have enough oil because there was an obvious drop of oil at the bottom of the oil stick by gravity. When I looked closely, I saw that the oil stick was lined with oil up to the max line. The reason it was not so obvious at first, is because the oil is new and very clear. So if you do not look closely you will not see that the oil film gets to the max line and you will think that you did not add enough oil.Be careful not to overfill it with oil though. If you notice a blue smoke from the exhaust after you start it, it is likely you may have added too much oil when you thought you did not have enough oil.Which is not got for the engine too.
Runs my 2.5 ton AC, well pump, and 50gal water heater with zero issues, and I'm not gonna pretend I don't have lights and fans going at the same time. This particular generator is SHOCKINGLY capable, it's hard not to consider it a whole house budget generator.
u need to get a nfrared thermometer and check on that cold air, theres a huge MISCONCEPTION, load and capacity , sure it may be running but you could be straing Your condenser motor as well as your generator , rule of thumb and for efficiency is to be running at half capacity. Sure you can get away with it at 75 to 90 percent load but I wouldn't depend on it for long term outages over say 2 3 days constant..
Westinghouse engines are their own design, but built in the same Vietnam factories as Briggs or Tecumseh, so I would assume reliability would be roughly the same as a Briggs/Kohler/Tecumseh. If you run it for 30min once a month just to keep it fresh but not hard use, you should probably change the oil once a year. If you're using it continuously, westinghouse recommends oil changes every 100hrs of runtime.
I have the exact same setup as you. Same generator using a 50 amp inlet with interlock. When my AC kicks on the breaker on the generator trips. My question is did you take off the alternator cover and remove the bonded neutral wire? I'm seeing in the directions that this may need to be done. Any help would be much appreciated.
@@albertotrevino6062 how old is your unit /Condensor HVAC system? whats your LRA? I ask because although it can run it may be hard on your unit and burn it out but it depends on some factors.

Thanks for the video. I'm in Houston and bought the same generator after the freeze last year. I need to test mine as well.

Picked mine up last Friday. From Menards. In the process of wiring it to my main panel via a manual transfer switch.

Seen several start up where it takes it three tries before it fires up and runs.

FYI Folks, The Generator will not output startup and peak running Wattage if you are using propane. It will with gasoline.
That depends on your Generator Sir! Depends on what you got!
@@MRTLEW01 This video not about the Westinghouse 9500?
The 50 amp plug just give 120 on each side that's all you limited to the generators breaker at 9500 and surges to 12500 you LRA is way more than that
F.H., where did you buy the 50A conductor for the extension cord? It looks like you added that 14-50p yourself.

Can I run 220 volts (for a well pump) and 120 volts (fridge and 2 freezers) at the same time?

Do you still like your generator? Getting ready to upgrade from my Generac to a larger unit.
Title should be: It will run a 2.5 ton unit.
Might even run a 3 ton unit with a hard/soft start kit. Not gonna run a 4 - 5 ton.
Good point I will try to edit that
It runs my 3.5 ton with no problem! Without a soft start.. Doesn't bog the engine.. Awesome package!!
It’ll run a 5 ton with a soft start
But who uses 5 ton in residential? Must be a really big house?
Not sure where your located but here in Florida, 5 ton is very common. Anything around 2500 sq ft used a 5 ton

Hi there.
Great point. I ended up adding a little of oil that I have at home. You can purchase that from auto zone

I so on the specification o this 9500 generator that it puts out 37amps. I didn't see 50amps. Why is that? This Westinghouse 12000 shows 50 amps.
This one has a fifty amp outlet
Will it run the HVAC and 50 gallon water heater?

My meter when I start it up on the voltage only shows U150 instead of U250

Correct, target should always be 50-60% max. Also, hard start kit on ac will help ease the inrush amps upon start up of central ac.
What size is your a/c
That's what I was wondering?
He replied in another message that it is a 2.5 ton unit.
i wish you had shown all the set up part , then the video would've been perfect . thank you though for showing everything else.
Sorry… the set up was done in the middle of a snow storm and was not thinking of capturing a video..
who makes the engine for this generator and how often do you have to change the oil? thanks

It's a Conda engine... Chinese knock off of Honda. Based on the Honda engine design but made much cheaper and MUCH LESS ROBUST. They will not hold up.

They sell a " slow start" device for your A/C
If you don't know whether it should be bonded or not, then you should not be using a generator. This is how you end up on the 10 o'clock news!
Okay thanks
you are welcome
Just ran across your video can I use the 30 amp
That dog is huffing and puffing lmao
So if your LRA is 77 amps so 230x77 amps is 17,710 watts just to kick compressor on????????
This is what a hard start kit is needed for. Mine came down by Alot. If I remember correctly it was 23 amps on start up and 8 amps running.
Yeah you have a small unit
@@demoll78 it's 3 tons I believe but it works on my neighbors home and his is 4 tons
You might have a 16 seer or higher
How is your panel and connection set up for the generator 50 amp cord?
50 amps
is your inside ac furnace electric or gas? sorry if question doesn't make sense. i'm new to this stuff.
Mine is on natural gas
Have you gotten any average run time on a 20lb tank of propane, and on gas?
Not tested yet! Never lost power since I got it. But its 6-7 hours according to the manual
I should of bought this one a while back now this Model has the CO2 sensor
I personly prefer the Co2 sensors in my house no need for it to be on a generator its producing co2 anyway!
LRA amps or to high
what is the altitude are you at
Almost 163 ft
Little loud huh?
Does it come with a remote start?
Yes. Remote start and push start button

2.5 tons without soft kit.
And 50 amp inlet box to the panel
