im pretty indifferent one one hand yeah i dont really appreciate a, comparatively, blank slate character coming in and, downing Goro and, helping down Sub-Zero, 2 of the most iconic characters in the franchise on the other hand however, i understand the reason why they created the character, a way to introduce both old and new fans alike to this adaptation of the characters, as we, the audience, learn more as he, the character, does is his inclusion great? not really does it "ruin the franchise" as some people claim? again, not really i mean c'mon the franchise survived worse than just a controversial new character

To be fair, Hanzo's soul is also a part of the kunai with chain, hence why he has supernatural control over it. It's still an object so it can't just give itself to propel at the enemy, but it can consciously attack specific parts of the body, making it a more lethal weapon.

If I can add to your pile of requests, Revenger is a weird movie with a variety of action sequences (group fights, sword fights, bow-and-arrow fights, etc), so there’s a lot to choose from!

Hey would you say a combat knife is a good self-defense weapon or weapon in general? I hear and read a lot it's better to just have a sword, gun, or any other longer reaching weapon. I've never really done any grappling or wrestling before either. Sorry for another weird question.

And hey a flexible weapon might not be the most efficient weapon, but they're fun as hell to watch, like castlevania or Jackie Chan in Shanghai Noon. It's funny, I was playing Rondo of Blood right now. I love Castlevania, and of course, the Netflix adaptation is amazing. With that being said, yes they are super cool, but it's not the most efficient weapon. (see you in October).

Japanese Katanas weren't widely used dual wielded as stated but there is a style: Niten Ichi-ryū created by Miyamoto Musashi a Sword saint and Philosopher, I am very interested in the origin of the Kali dual wield style and how it aligns to the tale of Musashi
I recommend doing a fight breakdown of the Chris final fight from the animated film Resident Evil Vendetta. its visually amazing and looks to be well choreographed.

I agree with the reverse grip not being a good attack. But the Man from Nowhere, used a reverse grip to slash the muscle tendon under the arm pit of a guy. I think he used a couple reverse grips in that fight in A Man from Nowhere
You don't wanna reverse grip a really long weapon, you're sacrificing a lot of reach. With a knife, it's kind of okay, because you're still gonna be fighting in close range/arms length either way.
5:52 actually there is a japanese swordstyle that uses katana along with shorter blades on the other hand, it's called niten ich ryuu, originated from a Japanese duelist during early 1600s of japan.
Katana and Wakizashi, or Ninjato and Tanto. Used very often in Ninjutsu training and even for Samurai battlefield use. It does take quite a bit of time and practice to become fluid with it, because of the weight of the katana, but certainly a valid use of long and short weapons within that character's real world history.

Not directly related, but the katana + wakizashi combination was actually... well while not common, was/is an accepted school of thought in Japanese swordsmanship. You can find a more modern interpretation in a nito-ryu that shows up in some sport fencing in Japan like Kendo

This is also (oddly enough) one of the more realistic representations of armor. Scorpion just let his armor take the slashes because, even with a metal sword, slashing weapons don't cut through armor. Was a great breakdown.

Problem with giving them credit for even using different styles (Chinese swords vs. Japanese) is that they're SUPPOSED to be from rivaling Japanese Ninja clans. Side note from fight choreography, it just bugs me that they're ignoring, or jumping on the recent bandwagon of, Scorpion being the good guy. Scorpion, in the original mythology, is of a rival clan of assassins that Sub-Zero was tasked to track down and stop from stealing a parchment that would grant the user knowledge of the Elemental Gods. Scorpion was killed by Sub-Zero and sent to hell. He returns from hell as an undead warrior, which is why he can take off his mask and show a skull that breathes fire. He's the BAD GUY. Why has this been lost on this take?
Easy answer: Scorpion is mascot of Mortal Kombat, and the folks who made the film hopped on the bandwagon of Scorpion being the good guy for that reason alone.
The weight of a katana is really best to be used with 2 hands. Another con of a katana is it's not as long as some other 2 handed weapons like European 2 handed swords, which will limit reach.
It’s also lighter than those Euro swords, granting the user more agility. The time it takes to wind up a good swing with a Claymore is more than enough time for a competent katana user to get inside the blender and do serious damage.
@@RLAMultimedia Some European swords might excel better than the Katana. There's a whole mysticism behind the Japanese sword based from pop culture that's makes a lot of people think the Katana is some ultimate sword when it's actually kinda limited

Also, you can’t compare traditional Samurai usage of the katana to the geurilla tactics employed by the ninja. But to your point, every weapon, regardless of history or mysticism, will have pros and cons.

Ninja historically uses anything they can get their hands on and generally do whatever they want. I'm pointing out the original design of the katana and what the Samurai used them for vs how other people can use them.
@@Excalibur01 you mention the claymore, but those aren't the only swords europe has that are longer, AFAIK katan blade length is similar to that of a european arming sword, ofc all these sword classifications are modern,largely victorian, constructions, but the weapons themselves existed.ofc. so there's various styles of long sword some longer some shorter, a decent amount longer than the katana and not significantly heavy/er, doesn't make the katana bad, just, doesn't make it the only style of sword in between a gladius and a zweihander. ...not that you said longswords dont' exist, i'm not saying you said that, and so on and so on.
I can’t wait for the breakdown of the final fight between Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse in Raging Fire which was 🔥🔥🔥 by the way. I saw it in theaters 3 times. Speaking of the rope dart, I just saw Shang-Chi and the martial arts was pretty cool. I just didn't like a lot of the story elements, like how Shang-Chi's sister apparently SELF TAUGHT herself to use the rope dart....That is the most mary sue character I've seen Marvel Studio's put out. They literally live action Mulan her. I've seen how hard the rope dart is to use in person and you are more likely to hurt yourself if you are not properly trained like nunchucks.

I agree, Joe Taslim’s Sub-Zero and Hiroyuki Sanada’s Scorpion were top tier casting. I also thought Joshua Lawson as Kano was superb as well.
@@ScenicFights oh most definitely, Kano was funny. It’s unfortunate how Cole Young sucked, I really wanted to like him since I really like Lewis Tan (His role from Into the Badlands was great)

Before I got into E-K-A (in the 90's) I tried Ninjutsu, & still have a training Kyoketsu-Shoge, which is a knife & rope weapon like Scorpion uses

Not directly related, but the katana + wakizashi combination was actually... well while not common, was/is an accepted school of thought in Japanese swordsmanship. You can find a more modern interpretation in a nito-ryu that shows up in some sport fencing in Japan like Kendo

One cool thing about the katana being used with a shorter weapon is that its an actual style of swordsmanship by one of the most famous samurai ever, Miyamoto Musashi. His self-created style niten-ichi-ryu actually uses a katana and shorter blade together

Breakdown on Jet Li’s Fearless final fight scene with the samurai? There he uses a a flexible weapon? Lol, if that’s what it’s called. Anyway, loving these breakdowns!
This is also (oddly enough) one of the more realistic representations of armor. Scorpion just let his armor take the slashes because, even with a metal sword, slashing weapons don't cut through armor. Was a great breakdown.

Problem with giving them credit for even using different styles (Chinese swords vs. Japanese) is that they're SUPPOSED to be from rivaling Japanese Ninja clans. Side note from fight choreography, it just bugs me that they're ignoring, or jumping on the recent bandwagon of, Scorpion being the good guy. Scorpion, in the original mythology, is of a rival clan of assassins that Sub-Zero was tasked to track down and stop from stealing a parchment that would grant the user knowledge of the Elemental Gods. Scorpion was killed by Sub-Zero and sent to hell. He returns from hell as an undead warrior, which is why he can take off his mask and show a skull that breathes fire. He's the BAD GUY. Why has this been lost on this take?
Easy answer: Scorpion is mascot of Mortal Kombat, and the folks who made the film hopped on the bandwagon of Scorpion being the good guy for that reason alone.

The weight of a katana is really best to be used with 2 hands. Another con of a katana is it's not as long as some other 2 handed weapons like European 2 handed swords, which will limit reach.
It’s also lighter than those Euro swords, granting the user more agility. The time it takes to wind up a good swing with a Claymore is more than enough time for a competent katana user to get inside the blender and do serious damage.
@@RLAMultimedia Some European swords might excel better than the Katana. There's a whole mysticism behind the Japanese sword based from pop culture that's makes a lot of people think the Katana is some ultimate sword when it's actually kinda limited
@@Excalibur01 some may, but I back my statement as a trained katana user. It’s more in the footwork than the sword itself. Also, you can’t compare traditional Samurai usage of the katana to the geurilla tactics employed by the ninja. But to your point, every weapon, regardless of history or mysticism, will have pros and cons.
@@RLAMultimedia pop culture has an influences and makes people think Katana is some super sword that beats all other swords. Ninja historically uses anything they can get their hands on and generally do whatever they want. I'm pointing out the original design of the katana and what the Samurai used them for vs how other people can use them.
@@Excalibur01 you mention the claymore, but those aren't the only swords europe has that are longer, AFAIK katan blade length is similar to that of a european arming sword, ofc all these sword classifications are modern,largely victorian, constructions, but the weapons themselves existed.ofc. so there's various styles of long sword some longer some shorter, a decent amount longer than the katana and not significantly heavy/er, doesn't make the katana bad, just, doesn't make it the only style of sword in between a gladius and a zweihander.
...not that you said longswords dont' exist, i'm not saying you said that, and so on and so on.

I can’t wait for the breakdown of the final fight between Donnie Yen and Nicholas Tse in Raging Fire which was 🔥🔥🔥 by the way. I saw it in theaters 3 times. And everyone should be on the lookout for it since the movie will release on streaming service app/ website called Hi-Yah which has a decent amount good old school/ new school Asian action cinema. Raging Fire will be on there October 22nd

if i'm not mistaken there is 2 sword style kenjutsu created by miyamoto musashi name niten ichi ryu. it basically use one long katana and one short katana

I could be way off but I believe that Miyamoto Musashi used a long and short sword in all of his numerous duels.
Into-Ryu Kendo utilizes a katana in your dominant hand and a wakizashi in your off hand but it is not as widely practiced as traditional kendo
Logan's such a nice guy. He could use a real katana, real knife, etc, and then takes on an asymmetric degree of danger. Kudos to the channel for all the great material.

Speaking of the rope dart, I just saw Shang-Chi and the martial arts was pretty cool. I just didn't like a lot of the story elements, like how Shang-Chi's sister apparently SELF TAUGHT herself to use the rope dart....That is the most mary sue character I've seen Marvel Studio's put out. They literally live action Mulan her. I've seen how hard the rope dart is to use in person and you are more likely to hurt yourself if you are not properly trained like nunchucks.
