Rachel, I love this approach. I never would have thought of engaging my husband and we do this together. However, I will keep this in mind. We'll try this challenge again. Hahaha! Watching your boys, it looked like they put things in the box and took as much out of the box as they put in. So cute. Yes, yes, yes. I am thinking more about whether or not the stuff aligns with how we live today. I'm getting it out of the house. In the trunk of the car or in the trash. It's done! I didn't get rid of that much but it certainly made a dent in the stuff in my kitchen cabinets.
As a perfectionist I avoid any challenges - because they became sort of "win or die" mechanism - (why so short? Why uncompleted? Why not enough??) but I also use to set a timer to do some hard housework - usually my 20 minutes becomes 1 hour but if not - 20 is just ok. I try to believe in that at least :)
Me, too, Izabela. If I have to count things to meet an external standard I get a little anxious. Learning to embrace "less is better" and "better is good" and all those things. I do really like watching Rachel and Dawn do these videos though, and if our children were still at home I would definitely do this! I just reframe the challenge to see how much I can get done in x number of minutes. And anything i do is enough. I decluttered our junk drawer. 😁
@@emmelia-6068 I do my work step by step. I've also learned to avood doing a part of sorting and leaving the pile of stuff for the next day... the moment I stop I have to put the stuff back - funny, but mess around makes me overwhelmed and I cannot finish.... :) Maybe we should keep talking to ourselves all the time cleaning saying good things for us? Bad things are constantly said from the record in our heads... :)
@@Izabela-ek5nh Agree! about the mess and the self-talk. Dana K White has taught me how to declutter without making a mess. Dana, Dawn from Minimal Mom, Diane in Denmark, and this dear Rachel have been true God-sends to me this year. It's a good journey. Have a blessed day!
Hi Rachael, I like the idea of the timer. I have been watching your videos for a couple months now as I prepare my my journey of minimalism. You have inspired me and was happy to see you on Denise’s “Live” recently (This and That with Denise Jordan”) Thanks for sharing as always (Darci)
Thanks Rachael, In the past I was all into decluttering, cleaning and organizing, so just starting this journey with minimalism. I have learned a lot from you already and have been watching now mostly videos on minimalism. There is so much to learn, but I am really excited to be on this journey. ( Darci)
As always, love your videos. I watch your channel for your realistic and inspirational messages. You’re down-to-earth and enthusiastic - and believable! This one was fun, and even though the kids seemed only borderline enthusiastic : ) you still inspired them to play the challenge. My son is 32 now, and he embraces his minimalist upbringing. It’s a more peaceful way to face the world’s challenges, when your home isn’t driving you to distraction with clutter.
😂 Yes, I don't want them on the counter, but it's easier to have them lined up or I forget. Hopefully it's just a season, my husband and I both have some health issues we're working through. 😊
@@Nourishingminimalism I totally understand about forgetting. It helps me to dose out a week at a time in those weekly pill holders... problem is I need to use 2 of those just for 4 days because M becomes breakfast T becomes Lunch & W becomes Dinner. I skip Thursday & repeat w/ F Sat & Sun for Day 2. Ha. Also I use my empty small supplement bottles & write w/a sharpie 1, 2 or 3 for B L or D. I use non glass bottles for this purpose. This way if I go out during mealtime, I can just grab a bottle & put it in my purse. It really makes it easier. I don't think dosing out one week affects the quality of the supplement if you keep it out of the light etc. Anyway we're all different in what works best but for us this is working really well.
Minimalist Mom just did a video on that. It is getting rid of things you KNOW your family is not going to want, give things to the people you want to have them NOW, so they can enjoy them and not wait until you die, and to declutter your home so that they won't have the stress of having to deal with a mess when you pass away. Morbid thought, but it is a reality. I recently had to deal with cleaning my mother's house after she passed away, and it was so hard. So many things brought back memories, so that was hard, but then the clutter was overwhelming too. We wound up just getting a dumpter to avoid having to go through everything, it was just too much. So I don't want my family to have to do that. The thought of my possessions just winding up being thrown away has given me the motivation to really consider what I have in my house, WHAT I AM PAYING FOR THIS HOUSE FOR - TO STORE JUNK OR TO LIVE AND ENJOY IT??? Plus, I want to leave behind pleasant memories, and don't want that to be overshadowed by the stress of having to get rid of a bunch of stuff that has just been collecting dust for twenty years. I don't want to be remembered as the junkaholic, lol That's Swedish Death cleaning.
@@Nourishingminimalism So kind of you to share - I never thought to acknowledge my miscarriages outwardly, but how comforting. I also had 4, but very early, miscarriages. Also am blessed with 4 (grown) sons and give thanks daily for them.

Great job. Best part was watching everyone take part in the 15 mins!

Random question: does your tattoo mean anything specific?

What does your tattoo mean? Those circles around your wrist and forearm... Of course, if it's something you want/can share publicly. Thank you.
