    100’ Bravo Yacht Crew: The Good The Bad The Ugly!
    In this episode, we discuss all things related to crew from the various types of crew members who worked on motoryacht Bravo to the real reason we sold our dream yacht and downsized to a Regal 26 XO (for only three weeks).
    We offer insight into what having full time live aboard crew is like and give suggestions of how to have a better experience than we did. We learned a lot of lessons through our five years of running a crewed yacht and hope to help our fellow boaters in avoiding the mistakes we made.
    Through our years of traveling, we experienced adventures in the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, the Patapsco River, and the Chesapeake Bay. We traveled from various places along the east coast of the United States and the Bahamas. A few of our crew favorites in the United States were: Clearwater, Florida; Saint Petersburg, Florida; Marathon, Florida; Key West, Florida; Charleston, South Carolina; Wilmington, North Carolina; Norfolk Virginia; and Baltimore, Maryland.
    From crew members being absolutely incredible to crew members doing $74,000 worth of damage to the boat, we truly experienced the good, the bad and the ugly!

    I personally enjoy my privacy way too much to have a vessel so large in need of a crew. Plus we love love love piloting our boat. Ok I’m all caught up o all the episodes, time for more.

      Going bigger is not always better. Although our privacy was never really an issue, when we did the refit we laid the boat out in such a way that the crew was never in our area and we were never in theirs. That said Bravo took about 60 hours of work per week to keep her looking good on the exterior… she had 1800 square feet of teak decking and almost 500 feet of teak cap rails, so it was a very labor intensive boat to keep clean. So there was always crew working on the outside everyday.

    Fractional ownership is a key to happy boating.

      Thanks so much for your comments and supporting the channel. Fractional Ownership is a great idea but also has many downsides, like if all the fractional owners want to use the boat on the same holiday week. That said there are some definite benefits to the idea.

    Really interesting take on crew. Did you eat meals with the crew? Did they have their own galley and mess area? How did you give them two days off every week if you were cruising? Did you have a chef make every meal for you? I would guess having a yacht with crew would be much easier if you could hire a captain who could handle managing the crew. Do you miss owning a big yacht?

      All excellent questions. When we did the complete interior refit of Bravo, we created a crew area where they had an entire galley and eating area. Their galley was fully equipped for cooking etc., so they had their area of the boat, and we had our area of the boat. Also they did not need to come in our area to either get off the boat or start their days, which made things good for both parties. We worked everyone a standard 5 day work week, some Monday through Friday, some Wednesday through Sunday so there was always someone on duty on the boat. When we had a movement, then we adjusted everyone's schedule to have time off before and after the trip. When on a trip everyone had at least 12 hours off each day. As seen in the video we started off having a chef prepare meals for underway but we found just ordering from Carrabba's and packaging the meals ended up being the best food for underway. While we were at dock, the crew was responsible for their own meals (preparing), although we purchased the food for them. Having a Captain ended up adding another layer of "drama" as most captains at the 100 foot mark tend to be just getting their licenses and lack the ability/experience of crew resource management. We don't miss owning the big boat, lots of drama etc.... sometimes bigger is not always better. Thank you for watching, the support. We try to get out a new video every Thursday.

    NEVER EVER EVER Captain your own big boat .... and always use a agency to hire crew ....you learned an expensive lesson my friend

      We actually had one crew member though a crewing agency.. really did not help. In the end, it was the crew situation that finally caused us to make the decision. Bravo was a very challenging boat to maintain on the exterior due to all the teak and the tri-deck…. Good lesson to learn as you said, plus we missed the boating part of boating 😅

      @@From100to26 That’s the difference between boating and yachting…. In nearly 4 years now I honestly think I have been into Doodle’s engine room twice and once of those times was at the boat show 😂 I have had to fire a couple of crew over the years but mainly that’s because they were wanting to work charters which I won’t let the boat do. Got a new one coming in March/April …. Anyhow great to see the channel… always liked that extension.

      @@ThePaulpope That is fantastic about your new boat! Congrats… it is always enjoyable building a new boat! For us, we felt like the draft and size was really just limiting us from going to some fantastic places. Also not having the speed was a factor as well! 5 years was good enough for us… the crew just did not make it fun after awhile 😂. Thanks again for the support!!!

      Totally disagree. Unless your wallet is deep. Sounds like poor management.

    How much do those crew jobs get paid a day? Also, you might not want to share personal info but what did you do for work?

    • @From100to26
      @From100to26  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much for the questions. Reference salary for crew jobs it varies widely based on experience. Almost all of our green deck hands started somewhere in the mid 30’s when we first started owning the big boat, in the end, our last deckhand was getting paid in the 70’s. Again all of this varies wildly based on experience, if it is a charter vessel or private vessel… Reference your last question we are in the aviation industry. Thanks again for watching, your support and subscribing! We truly appreciate it!
