GREAT JOB, man! I definitely dig it. The lick @0:11 was what I could never get down cleanly. Then I saw Skunk Baxter's version (th-cam.com/video/6xN0hmNS_IU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-pk9oRTS4vrRX23-) and saw HE couldn't replicate it live either, so... OKAY - on THIS version Baxter got CLOSER to playing that lick correctly - but not as well as YOU DID - th-cam.com/video/hE4919SrPUE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TO6zhw4a1KjUyQZt And at this point my arthritis is keeping me mostly on bass (like on MY acoustic trio cover version - th-cam.com/video/-OM3NcXuirE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LSysA_YYq_QoH09c) , so...
Sounds great man! Yeah that lick was definitely what lead to the most takes haha. I actually had a couple that were better but then the rest of the solo wasn't as good. I tend to always get that open note where he just hits the fretted note twice but as Ella Rae once put it, playing in time is more important than playing the right notes. I definitely can't compare myself to a 75+ year old Skunk - I imagine the faster licks get harder to play as we age but he's still got the feel. He's the man for sure
@@CleanAxe I am a little ashamed to admit I didn't learn Walter's bass line EXACTLY, but I'm also singing. And you are spot on about playing in time being job #1!
Excellent take! About as close as anyone should be 💪🏻
