Not a Jet fan at all, but I think this is a good hire. He was a #1 pick, an All-Pro, and has worked his way up the coaching tree. I wish him success except when he plays our team.
This guy was the Lions DC for a reason. Class act and a very respectable coach. But so was Saleh! As long as Woody is running the show, NOBODY - no matter what pedigree, coaching experience, vision, expertise or accolades the guy has - will have sustained success with this franchise. I am somewhat surprised he accepted this job since he knows this team and this owner inside out. I truely wish him the very best but at the same time have serious doubts he will succeed in NY.
I remember him when he was with the Jets, but I wanted to check out the rest of his career. Jets drafted him in the 1st round and kept him for 8 years, then he went to the Texans for 3 years, then went to a few other teams for a year or two each. When he retired, he signed a one-day contract to retire as a Texan. I guess he does know the Jets pretty well.
I hope somehow this can at once work out for the Jets but not work out for the Johnson family. Not sure how that's even possible, but a guy can hope. O'Doyle rules.
It has been weird right? We had to get use to our team being good the past couple seasons and now we're having to deal with the drawbacks, that being everyone wants a piece of us that is working. Might be in for a little bit of a reset year with all the new staff will need to be bringing in but I trust Dan and Brad to nail the people they choose for the roles.
I hope AG does a good job. But they just fired an Aaron Glenn- Robert Saleh. The problem is ownership, QB, and OL- in that order. Saleh held the defense together while he was there. Fortunately coaches get guaranteed deals- just in case AG becomes the next scapegoat.
Trying to say they’re the same person because they were both DC’s is idiotic. Demeco was a DC and the guy before him Lovie Smith was a DC entirely different result. Ron Rivera DC for Washington last year and now this year Quinn also a DC and how’s that going?
That has to be the worst team he could have gone to. They have what 20M and nothing that works on offense. I hope he got an absolute bag, good luck AG its a tough road to pave.
It had to be someone who loved the Jets. Nobody else has a chance. Not that Glenn has a big chance, mind you. But if you love a team you will put up with a lot. Ask Jets fans.
@@ryanshaw9024 Yeah I think its a problem of GM versus ownership. If ownership gets out of the way the Jets job might be fine (its new york though so as I said in my primary comment elsewhere a winner there is in spite of it). For those criticizing Aaron Glenn as another defensive-minded head coach and comparing him to Todd Bowles and other defensive coaches, consider this: Bowles, now with the Bucs, has consistently hired top-tier OCs. This past season, with first-year OC Liam Coen, the Bucs averaged 29 PPG, led by Baker Mayfield's standout performance. Before Coen, Dave Canales also excelled with Bowles last year, earning the Panthers HC job. Coen just today declined the Jaguars HC role to stay with Bowles in Tampa. The Jets’ issue wasn’t Bowles-it was poor ownership and a front office that kept Mike Maccagnan, fired Bowles, and hired Adam Gase. (Remember that utter nonsense?). Tampa’s success shows Bowles can hire competent offensive staff, highlighting the Jets’ organizational dysfunction. The problem has always been the NY Jets.
Rich, as a Lions fan, you've got the right guy. Just don't screw it up. I thought the exact same thing about Woody Johnson, because he needs to stay out of the way. I think Aaron Glenn is much more of a sure thing than Ben Johnson as a head coach, and your team has lots of potential now.
