    Thanks for the update. I've had my 2023 Kenai for about the same amount of time. Had the same issue with water trickling in through the wires. I just crammed a bunch of silicone sealant in and around the wires and it solved the problem. I put a 3 inch memory foam topper on top of the mattress, and if anything it made it a little too soft. I think I'll just get a 1 inch eventually. I've got an Iceco fridge and absolutely love it. Way more rugged than the domestic and works great.

      Thanks so much for watching. Im going to look really hard into Tochta Mattress. It seem like it might be perfect. You can customize the sizes, so I can add the radius to the edges for the front, the thickness, and maybe even squares to match the portal edge bunk extensions. Im going to look into the ICECO! I was also looking into the National Luna also. Thanks so much for your input!

    Hey just subscribed
    This is an awesome review. It pretty much answered all my concerns. There’s a lot things I like about this camper. The one concern was that leak. Glad that issue was resolved. I think dropping the stove down was a great idea. The diesel heater is one of the best placement and functioning.
    Happy travels

    Great review! They keep getting better every year. I LOVE your stove mod. I hope Scout listens to that one! Usable couter top space is precious inside a small space like that. And If I'm passionate about cooking outside - yup I'll buy another camp stove. Love the molly panel idea too. Super clean. So glad to hear they've upgraded the battery and fixed the leaky solar wires. Your power station charging tutorial was super helpful, too. Great stuff! Glad you're a gear nerd. It helps us a lot! Keep making pictures!! ; )

    Awesome breakdown. Glad to hear from a photographer's perspective. Do you feel there is enough storage for your gear, clothes, food, dishes, etc? Are you comfortable at the table, comfortable seat cushions, etc when you are at a long editing session? Does the camper feel well insulated when its cold but not yet using the heater? Wonder if there is a door screen and good airflow when its hot?

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the comment! I do have a few more videos about my thoughts. But I’ll share them here too.
      I use the rear seat of the truck for all my gear. I like to keep all of my lenses and cameras cold overnight. Clothing, food, and dishes are no problem at all. Tons of space for all of that. If you have really bulky items like down jackets, it gets a little tight. But overall I don’t have any issues
      I don’t like the cushions at all. I found that the most comfortable position for me is removing the back cushion and sitting “long ways” on the bench. The seats are no where near long enough to really be comfortable for long periods of time. By far my least favorite feature inside.
      The camper is pretty well insulated actually. Holds heat really well. I would say the heater only turns on when it’s lower than 20 degrees outside. Anything warmer, and I’m still comfy inside.
      The heater is fantastic though! Top 3 favorite things.
      The door does not have a screen, but that’s something I’m going to probably replace in the next year. There is a brand (same brand as the windows) that’s a better solution. I’ll probably replace the stock one to that.
      Some also put a magnetic screen up for airflow also.
      I use a small fan in the summer to keep air moving, and it keeps me cool in the hot summer days.

    I have a Truma C60 and absolutely love it. I hit some really rough roads and it's done amazing. The 69L dual zone would fit that spot nicely, and it's far more rugged.
    I sell RV's and play with the dometics all the time. I could drive away and drop my Truma off the tailgate, it'd be fine. The Dometic feels like it would likely be in 3 or 4 pieces lol.

    Wow. The leak is not something that should happen in 2024. Manufacturers have had many years to learn to use the right equipment to seal RVs and campers. And their lack of response would be a deal-breaker if I were looking at their product.

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I don’t disagree at all. The problem is, I don’t think you can find a single manufacturer that is problem free (at least with a price tag under $500K). It seems that everyone has issues, and it’s unfortunately the nature of the RV industry as a whole at this point. The sad fact is you need to find one that has the least amount of issues

    Great video. I do not have a Scout, but I am always looking for what works and what doesn't as it possibly helps me with my rig. I would add either more light in the front or replace the stock headlights with Morimotos or "stock" LEDs. Driving at night is so much better. I had the LEDs on my 2022 Tremor and my new 2024 F350 has them as well. I feel so much safer in comparison.

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much for commenting. I actually installed a full Diode Dynamics set up. I replaced the stock fogs, added ditch lights, and added reverse lights. I did a whole video on the upgrade if you're interested! I find the stock headlights totally fine. Mine are the LED, and I think for normal driving, they are more than enough. When I need more light ahead of me, the front ditch lights are fantastic, and have way more than enough light for me.

    Dude great review. Im liking al your mods. Im running the toyo at3 4s in a 18x 275x 85 on my f150. I tell you what they are so quiet and grippy on allot of the same trail types as you do. When i wheel with guys they are seriously impressed with what my truck can do. The toyos also weigh less than the ko2s. So less milage loss.
    What ive noticed with sae plugs is they dont break in the cold as easy as the jt4 connections. I think its a rubber rather than plastic issue. The sae is less likly to shake out on rough roads. I have replaced my fridge plug and battery bank plug with sae and it has kept them pluged in on some serious off road trips.

  • @duramaxadventures5832
    @duramaxadventures5832 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You cannot use the 6000x to run a 12v ac unit. It's limited to 360w (30A) from it's 12v high power connector.
    You could try to run a 120v AC from it with soft start, but I wouldn't. The 2000w limit could be an issue on hot days. Maybe a 10k BTU unit would work but it's cutting it close.
    If you want a nomadic cooling x3 (dometic is too low BTU) you need 91A on full cool and 125A -150A for startup.
    I suggest getting a full lithium 12v system for the 12v X3 AC. 100ah = 1hr run time on max cool, just under 2hrs in eco mode. A high output alternator, and a DC to DC charger (60A) would be ideal.
    You COULD use Aims 75A 120v charger off the goal zero to charge the secondary lithium bank, but your recharge rate is very low to charge the goal zero and would be your bottleneck.
    Since space is limited you may want to just do a full custom lithium setup. Big Battery has some new products. Renogy REGO is a very easy line to work with and Renogy now has new automated heated batteries too.

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for such a detailed response! If I was going to add a AC, I was probably going to be doing a full battery set up like you suggested. I would love to transition to the Lithium phosphate batteries, and have a much larger array of useful ports than what come standard on the Yeti X models. Currently, the yeti works really well for my needs but I know that If i do any sort of AC, it will require a huge upgrade to the power system. Im not fully ready to dive into that yet, since the current situation is good enough for now. I recently added a second solar panel to the roof, and added the secondary MPPT charger for the Yeti. it allows me to have quite a bit of charging while driving down the road which has helped a lot.
      it was a rumor a while ago, and I still hope that someday it becomes true, but the talk was that Scout was going to make a swapable AC unit that goes where the diesel heater goes. Since the heater cam come off, you would be able to swap back and forth for whatever you need during that season. With talking to Scout, they said thats not on the table and havent been working on it. But I still hope it becomes a reality some day. Heck, maybe ill even sit down and try and figure it out haha.

    • @duramaxadventures5832
      @duramaxadventures5832 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@FoxandFir yeah the only unit that I can think of that can do that is there's a bunk unit that some of the OBIs and the Australian trailers use but it does not work well.... Even with the scouts insulation factors I would not bother with it. It struggles when Ambient temps get above 80° and that's where you need air conditioning. (I have one in my dweller 13)
      The other thing is the performance is very intermittent with them and although in theory you could pull some temp out the unit. You run constantly. Granted it doesn't freeze up but still that's a thousand watts every hour. To go from like 90° to like 80.
      If you don't want to have to go to massive on the upgrade setup you could try the dometic 1000 but 8000 BTUs is really low...

    • @duramaxadventures5832
      @duramaxadventures5832 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@FoxandFir The other thing is the dometic is tested in "camping environments" which nobody will disclose what the actual ambient temps are.
      Nomadic cooling is headquartered in Mesa Arizona and they test their units in Arizona heat of 120°.
      That's also why when you look at their product page it mentions 91 amps but they ask for a 150 fuse It's because startup loads are incredibly high in hot temps, and although it should use 91 amps it could also go higher than that if the ambients are high enough.

      Unfortunately no, the batteries at all packed in the system and connected to the MPPT, and inverters. The only thing I could do, is use the 1500 to charge the 3000 via the 120 AC inverter, but thats just too much hassle for what it is.

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      No problem at all! I will answer any question you have! So, We REALLY wanted to get them, but it just didn't make sense for us. I am often camping in very cold temperatures, and while the windows are insulated, they are not as close to the actual insulation in the walls. I didn't want to be camping in the cold, and then having our heads right next to a chilly window. We also drive A LOT. Each trip is roughly 3-4K miles total, so the chances of a rock getting kicked up and going through the window is high for us. I didn't want to have to worry about that. The front of the camper tends to be a bug magnet, so chances are we would just be staring at about a billion bugs splattered across the window anyway haha. We would of loved the added cross ventilation and extra light, but it just was a no-go for us.

    I noticed you're driving a short-bed F350. I've been looking at a Kenai and have a Ram 3500 crew SB and would need to run the tailgate down (or off) as you're doing. Do you have an auxiliary backup/rear view camera on the back? Also, do you ever take your tailgate off your truck and run without it? The Fords are nice because they have the builtin tailgate step, unlike the Rams. I'd leave it on if I had the Ford.

    • @FoxandFir

      Honestly, Yes it's way too much. Not just for the suspension, but the brakes and transmission also. It would probably be fine for short, 10-15 mile trips. But anything long distance you would really be running some pretty serious risks. They do have their new pop ups coming out, which save a TON of weight. They will have their Kenai pop up coming out fairly soon, that should come in at much lighter than what mine is! Might be worth checking out!

    • @FoxandFir
      @FoxandFir  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, im really sorry you are having issues. So a few things, Scout only made the 3000X standard as of 7 weeks ago, so any camper ordered before then, would be with the 1500X as standard. If you wanted to upgrade to the 3000X, you would need to cut into the top of the cabinet just like I did. I don't understand why the 1500X would be "too old". My 1500X is older than yours, and the app works perfectly fine for me. It seems like there is either a miscommunication between you and Goal Zero, or what you are expressing to me. I know that Goal Zero had an issue with an update that they pushed to the X series of batteries, but im not sure if that's why it needs to be returned to the factory. And if there was an actual issue with the Yeti, that would be an issue with GoalZero, and not Scout unfortunately. Im sure Goal Zero, or Scout will take care of you and get you a brand new 1500X, or repair yours.
