This interaction is OK because it is within the scope of the characters. What you can’t do is try to get characters to act or respond to something that their character would know nothing about. Like current politics, or a movie they would never have seen or even know about. That will get you into trouble, and if the character responds to you out of the scope of their character, they will be in trouble too.
