@@AlfoMedia Bro I say this with love and respect, after hearing your thoughts on the production and songwriting on Kiss Land I can see you have clearly not listened to the album and given it the appropriate amount of thought. I am biased cause this is my favorite Weeknd project but I think it's his best work lyrically, and the production is the most expansive and cinematic I've ever heard and I really highly recommend you give it another chance. Once it clicks you will be blown away. Keep doing what you do!
I hear you! Like I said, it's definitely the project that I've listened to the least from him. Didn't like it when I first heard it and haven't gone back to it much at all. I'll try it again!
When I saw the intro naming the days of the weekend, I knew this was going to be bad. Beauty Behind the Madness is not number 4, I would put it over Echos of Silence and it is in contention with Thursday.
@aldair martinez - I’m guessing they actually mean “he’s being fair”. He doesn’t want being a Weeknd fan to mean he acts like everything the man makes is automatically perfect or like there aren’t some songs he doesn’t like as much as others; may not actually be unbiased, no, but doesn’t want any bias he might have toward the Weeknd as an artist in general to get in the way of being able to discuss and have more in-depth opinions on his music in detail.
Kissland is so underrated. The cinematic and grand sounds he goes for complements his voice perfectly and while its not as good as trilogy its his second best album imo
Weeknd fans don't "hate" his pop projects they're just salty he changed his music style, but they're still there for him... Trilogy and kissland are my favorites but bbtm, starboy and afterhours are still good by their own right... It's mostly just what mentality you're in when you listen to abel that affects your judgement

House of Balloons will probably always be his best. Such raw darkness that takes you in. Its crazy to me that there are a TON of The Weeknd fans that never listened to the mixtapes.

I’ll never understand the Kiss Land hate. In my opinion the production it is his best so far, in songs like Professional it feels theatrical while in the title track it sounds like a literal horror movie. I feel like his falsetto hits best in this album and lyrically I feel he’s cohesive conceptually. The trilogy of mixtapes is better but I’d consider it to be his best non mixtape album by a lot. Just my two cents.
THANK YOU. It's such a pretty, theater-type record with great production. It's definitely not weak and I do agree that it's his best commercial release, though after hours was really close. (The mixtapes are untouchable tho)
7. Starboy (7/10) - didn’t need to be 18 tracks (could have/should have been cut down to 12-13 tracks - too many filler tracks) but still a solid album fav tracks: Starboy, Reminder, True Colors, Sidewalks, Die for You least fav track: Rockin’ 6. Beauty Behind the Madness (8/10) - solid mainstream debut with some of Abel’s best tracks fav tracks: Tell Your Friends, Often, The Hills, Acquainted, Angel least fav track: Can’t Feel My Face 5. My Dear Melancholy (8.5/10) - for OG fans it was a solid ep in return to darker roots fav tracks: Call Out My Name, I Was Never There, Privilege least fav track: Try Me 4. Thursday (9.5/10) - very good follow up to his debut project fav tracks: Life of the Party, The Birds pt. 1, Gone, Rolling Stone, Heaven or Lost Vegas least fav track: none 3. Kiss Land (9.5/10) - great debut album for Abel - still dark and moody but a different setting fav tracks: The Town, Belong to the World, Kiss Land, Pretty, Love in the Sky least fav track: Wanderlust (remix) 2. Echoes of Silence (10/10) - perfect ending to an era fav tracks: D.D., Outside, Initiation, Next, Montreal least fav track: none 1. House of Balloons (10/10) - best mixtape ever (in my opinion - it’s perfect) fav tracks: High For This, House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls, The Morning, Wicked Games, Twenty Eight least fav: none For his latest singles I’m mixed about them. Heartless is a dark song with okay lyrics, nothing that grabs your attention & for Blinding Lights it seems almost as a leftover track from Starboy (I Feel it Coming-esq). The Weeknd has been my favorite artist since 10th grade & I’ve been listening to him since Kiss Land era. I have a feeling he’s going to drop another similar album to Starboy which can be a good thing, but far from a great thing. Starboy was a pretty good album, but no where near the dark, raw, edgy Weeknd I hope for. I get it, artists evolve and since he is mainstream now he can’t talk about the same things he once did without getting backlash. I just hope for an album that doesn’t have any filler tracks, a couple tracks that return to his drug filled-sex roots just for his core fans. If I were a guessing man I’m going to say his next album will be around a 6.5-7 out of 10, based on his singles. Heartless gets a 7.5/10 & Blinding Lights gets a 5.5/10.
I just dont get why people dont like starboy. The first 11 tracks are front to back great and the unnecassary stuff is maybe not really memorable but also really not bad.
The sound of Kiss Land was quite innovative compared to much of his newer stuff imo. Industrial RnB is interesting. Otherwise i don't think he's released a great album. Just singular songs that are great. Cool vid btw!
Late but still. Album? I agree but project wise I think House of Balloons and Echoes of Silence are both excellent pieces of work, with Echoes specifically being my person favourite of his catalogue (it also contains my favourite song of his, XO / The Host).
Kissland really grew on me. If I had to rank his projects, I'd rank them like this: 7. Starboy 6. My Dear Melancholy 5. Kissland 4. Thursday 3. Echoes of Silence 2. Beauty Behind The Madness (Ik, SUPER controversial, but idc I love it) 1. House Of Balloons
My list (best to worst) 1. EoS 2. Kissland 3. HoB 4. Thursday 5. BBTM 6. MDM 7. Starboy (Bear in mind I still love Starboy, it's more of a worst of the best kind of thing)
I personally disagree, however I respect you list! In my opinion it goes like this 1. House of Balloons 2. Thursday 3. Echoes of Silence 4. My Dear Melancholy, 5. Starboy 6. Beauty Behind the Madness 7. Kissland
Late to the party but if I had to rank the studio albums then it would be 1. Dawn FM 2. After Hours 3. Starboy 4.BBTM 5. Kiss Land Haven’t listened to kiss land a ton so my opinion on it could definitely change.
kiss land to this day still has abel’s strongest lyrical content and it’s really not close. it’s an album you’ve just gotta pay some more attention to before it clicks but go off… 😮💨
My rating has changed so fucking much in just a day lol. I think I'll go for 1.Echoes of Silence 2. House Of Balloons 3. Kiss Land 4.Thursday 5. BBTM 6. Starboy 7. MDM
1.Echoes of Silonence 2. House of ballons 3. After Hours 4. Beauty behind the madness 5.Thrusday 6. Dawn Fm 7. StarBoy 8. Kiss land 9. My Dear Melonchly
This dude probably only like "hardest to love" on after hours and save your tears 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.. dont say your a BIG fan when you clearly just like his pop songs.
sue me if I'm a Pitchfork junkie, but thanks to them, I got to hear the most eerily captivating music I heard in 2011. my gateway to The Weeknd was "What You Need", and I was instantly hooked to Abel's spaced-out sonic aesthetic. it only got better from there after each single released from HoB, with "Glass Table Girls" and "The Party & the After Party" as follow-ups (in that order, iirc). his choice of samples and his enigmatic persona certainly helped build this rare mystique of a promising artist that I was really digging at the moment. then, when the entire HOB mixtape was released, I anointed it as my AOTY almost instantly. "High For This" perfectly set the mood for the drug-fueled ride ahead, and "Wicked Games" soon found itself constantly on repeat on my ever-evolving playlist well after the year had ended. can't say I loved Thursday and EoS as much as HoB, but "The Zone" is probably my favorite Weeknd track of all time - relatively lengthy run time and Drake feature notwithstanding. hell, I'm not a huge Drake fan at all, but the two of them together made the song really meld into a melancholy beast of a track amidst the hazy, haunting production and that infectious drum loop. as for EoS, it has what I consider one of Abel's more underappreciated gems in "The Fall". I often find myself lost in my mind's swirling ether during the closing moments of the track after being pummeled just as hard as the "The Birds (Part 1)" minutes prior. The Weeknd's Trilogy compilation was pretty much the soundtrack to my 2011 and it served as sort of a precursor to the near future of rap and R&B hits of this decade that I would come to hate and love in near-equal proportions. and consider me a douche for only liking Abel's older works, but Alfo was right: The Weeknd made the best material to date when he was broken deep down inside and was still finding his way to connect to his audience. truly glad that Abel found mainstream success (if only to selfishly gloat to others on occasion that I discovered him before his newfound fame), but I can't wait for him to revisit and refine his style from the golden Trilogy era without having to succumb to new lows just to tap into the raw, magnetic vibe that drew most of his long-time fans into his beautifully dark, self-loathing world in the first place.
1. House of Balloons 2. My Dear Melancholy 3. Kissland (Kissland and MDM switch all the time they’re interchangeable) 4. Beauty Behind the Madness 5. Thursday 6. Starboy 7. Echoes of Silence
the big thing is that, Call Out My Name captivates that’s same dark feeling people wanted for years ever since trilogy was released. fans get excited that he realises new music but true fans really appreciate the gritty sound captured in his darker tunes.
Very surprised he put my dear melancholy as a C tier project! For me is's up there with house of balloons, it's short, original sounding, packed with emotions and most importantly cohesive which are all important criteria to judge an album's quality
Idc what anybody says: 1. Kiss Land 2. Trilogy (or 2. HOB, 3. EOS, 4. Thursday) 3. After Hours 4. My Dear Melancholy 5. Starboy 6. Beauty Behind the Madness
9. My Dear Melancholy 8. Kiss Land 7. Starboy 6. Beauty behind the Madness 5. Thursday 4. Echoes of Silence 3. Dawn FM 2. After Hours 1. House of Balloons
Kiss Land is the most underrated and one his most deepest albums. Kiss = The sexual side of touring, and Land = the part of your where he didn’t have a home.

accurate. I’d put house of balloons over kissland but if we’re including it as trilogy then I agree
Trilogy>BBTM>Starboy>Kissland>MDM
Video on FKA twigs soon?
The transition from adaptation to love in the sky is one of the best things in the world

5. Kissland
4. Thursday

kiss land last is a crime
beauty behind the madness is ranked too low 😩
It should be ranked lower💀
That albums fantastic
Zaddy Aizen fr hahah, its still a solid 9/10 but not as good as the others
How the fuck my dude say "In the Night" has shallow lyrics and is forgettable
It’s his best album after the mixtapes...
if you think that the songwriting on kiss land was lack luster you must’ve not listened to adaptation.
why does everyone always forget about as you are like??? one of my absolute favs and arguably one of his most felt tracks i don’t get it
How do you overlook the town on kissland? One of his greatest songs ever, tripping my guy
"False alarm is the most chaotic thing that he's ever made"
*cough* Initiation *cough*
List irrelevant as soon as u see #7
jas singh lol right
hahaha where would you put it then?

Hardest to love isn’t even the most popular song after hours 😐
Heres my list:

2: Thursday
3: Starboy
4: Echoes of silence
5: Beauty behind the madness
6: Kiss Land
7: My dear melancholy
I wasn't a huge fan of trilogy tbh.
Then i got really high and now What You Need has yet to be topped
sue me if I'm a Pitchfork junkie, but thanks to them, I got to hear the most eerily captivating music I heard in 2011. my gateway to The Weeknd was "What You Need", and I was instantly hooked to Abel's spaced-out sonic aesthetic. it only got better from there after each single released from HoB, with "Glass Table Girls" and "The Party & the After Party" as follow-ups (in that order, iirc). his choice of samples and his enigmatic persona certainly helped build this rare mystique of a promising artist that I was really digging at the moment. then, when the entire HOB mixtape was released, I anointed it as my AOTY almost instantly.
The Weeknd's Trilogy compilation was pretty much the soundtrack to my 2011 and it served as sort of a precursor to the near future of rap and R&B hits of this decade that I would come to hate and love in near-equal proportions. and consider me a douche for only liking Abel's older works, but Alfo was right: The Weeknd made the best material to date when he was broken deep down inside and was still finding his way to connect to his audience. truly glad that Abel found mainstream success (if only to selfishly gloat to others on occasion that I discovered him before his newfound fame), but I can't wait for him to revisit and refine his style from the golden Trilogy era without having to succumb to new lows just to tap into the raw, magnetic vibe that drew most of his long-time fans into his beautifully dark, self-loathing world in the first place.

the big thing is that, Call Out My Name captivates that’s same dark feeling people wanted for years ever since trilogy was released. fans get excited that he realises new music but true fans really appreciate the gritty sound captured in his darker tunes.
Good lord, it's kinda scary how similar we think. Pretty sure I had these ranked the same as you PLUS the best track lists.
Very surprised he put my dear melancholy as a C tier project! For me is's up there with house of balloons, it's short, original sounding, packed with emotions and most importantly cohesive which are all important criteria to judge an album's quality

BBtM is 100% his best project. I can listen to every song on there basically
Thank you
Kiss Land is the most underrated and one his most deepest albums. Kiss = The sexual side of touring, and Land = the part of your where he didn’t have a home.
