I had a small bowel obstruction from a past ruptured appendix surgery. I had the surgery after 2 days I got a fever of 106.9 and falling blood pressure. I was given last rites and my heart stopped and after I was converted back I was placed in a coma after the next 3 weeks were hell on earth very Sick and no control of my bowels the infection was very hard to control. I left the hospital weighing 109 lbs I’m 5’10” it was very tough learning to eat solid food again. But now I’m still alive and well✊😇

Dear God. I'm actually to scared to share my story, as I'm still not out of the woods yet. Was released yesterday, after 31 days in hospital. Complete obstruction. Pain was 11/10. Went into shock. Code blue. I literally dont know how I survived it. Pure hell on earth. At home...in recovery. Now i know what hell must be like.😢

I saw so many GPs about how distended and painful my abdomen gets and they never even checked for hernias, My gut feeling says there is an obstruction and this is how I ended up here. It all started during the pandemic in 2021 and It stopped passing gas. I am now in the middle of a trip to Europe and have no idea what to do after a horrible diarrhea episode where I got rid of so much fluid. I feel better and the diarrhea has stopped, but the pain never leaves me in the lower left-hand side. I have never vomited though. thank god!

22 yrs ago I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, 4 moths later I was having major bowl resection due to a fistula going to my bladder.
I was sent home with major drugs and told I would have Crohn’s for the rest of my life. Within a month I weened myself off those drugs and began taking Cats Claw (herb from the Peruvian rain forest)
No prescription drugs or hospital stays since.
So no issues from 2000 to 2012 when I had my 1st experience with bowl obstruction.
I suffered for 8 hrs then went to ER. They took my history, X-ray then gave me an enema. I had a bowel movement then went home.
I’ve had numerous episodes since to which I immediately recognize the pain and act. My remedies are castor oil, orally (food grade) and externally via castor oil pack.
If those don’t work in a few hours I give myself an enema, these always have worked with time.
Less than 24-36 hours I’m pain free.
I also have since found the enzyme SERRAPEPTASE !
    240,000 spu daily!
I believe this enzyme is eating away my old scar tissue.
Hopefully I’ll have no more episodes.
I hope some of this information helps someone.
As always, a DR is never a last resort, one should learn their own body and to recognize an emergency situation, one should never disregard the obvious.

@44099 Whoa this one hit home!! I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease 40 year’s ago (I’m 50 now). I’ve had 4 small bowel resections with the last one in 2020 that almost killed me (like the 1st one at age 19) but in 2014 I had 5 hernias removed at once and implanted with hernia mesh that was recalled in 2016, and I sued C.R. Bard (the makers of the mesh) in Federal Court in 2018 and they just settled the lawsuit the first week of October (2024) with not admitting to “any fault” even though they’d previously lost a case for $500,000 and one for $4.8M🙄
Fast forward to today (Nov 2024) I cannot tell you how many hospitalizations I’ve had since 2020. I looked at how much my insurance has paid this year and I’m just short of 1.5M!! The hernia mesh that I was implanted with was recalled and I was one of over 30,000 patients who suffered injuries. I’m watching this video KNOWING I should be getting dressed and headed to the ER because of pain that I’ve had for almost two weeks now in my sigmoid colon area.
I took a screenshot of everything that you’ve done to combat your Crohn’s and I’ll be implanted those into my diet ASAP minus the castor oil which my mother use to give me as a child and I’d 🤮every single time she would give it to me!
Thank you for sharing, I’ll revisit this video in a few weeks/months to update on how well your new findings have helped, I’m extremely optimistic!!

A few weeks ago i developed diarrea again took more immodium due to me having to go to work!! I developed severe abdominal pain and i couldnt pass gas. I was extremely nauseous. Pain would subside then flare up again. I couldnt even rub up against the counter it was so painful and painful to the touch!! I went to the ER. Cat scan done was diagnosed with SBO. Dr placed a NG tube for 24 hours!! Releived ALOT of Pain and pressure!!! Started passing gas. Dr done another Cat scan with Dye. Which gave me diarrea however my Small bowel unkinked itself!!
Looking back now I think i was sick for awhile cause i feel SO MUCH better!!! Havent had to take any Immodium at all since home been 2 weeks!! Eating normal and normal Bowel movements!! Be careful with Immodium it will Back you up!! ❤

I got like this too after having some type of 'flu', i wonder if I had covid? I lost all, and I mean all, my taste and smell and I started taking decongestants, and that is when this started, so thinking the meds constipated me, but the cramping and all was so bad I assumed I ate something that gave me a bacterial infection and well it's just all been down hill from there. 5 weeks now.

Thanks so much for the video. Is it possible to feel an obstruction coming on? Idk if that sounds ridiculous or not. 5 yrs ago colon resection due to diverticulitis. 2 yrs ago bowel obstruction due to adhesions. Now for 3 months really distended, nausea, constipated. It feels like it did before. Is there anything I can do to be proactive? Would love to avoid another surgery.

I’m sorry you’re struggling with this, each case is a bit different and unfortunately given the complexity of this and the platform I can’t give medical advice. I would check in with your family practice doc and get a plan that first addresses the constipation, perhaps all you need is to stay hydrated with some miralax, but that is certainly between you and your doc. Good luck!

    Watching in Ireland!
Thank you so much for this very informative video which is really giving me hope I have had constant lower abdominal pain for years now and it feels like it's getting worse. I had a total colectomy with IRA 8 years ago and I was a carer so I did not have time to recuperate. I have just been in constant pain I think I have adhesions but it's very hard to find a doctor who can help me. I'm really getting to the point of not being able to put up with it as I cannot lft carry or function anything like normal. it's getting me down, so I am very grateful for your video and being able to understand what's maybe going on a bit more. I feel pulling and squeezing from the inside and a barring down sessation. I drive a motorbike because I can't walk far with the pain.... I need to see a good specialist who can see pastthe fact that look healthy.

However, I'm just a silly-vilian with a smattering bit of medical knowledge. Is there a possibility you could develop videos that are more inline with our knowledge (or lack there of) to explain as a patient warning signs, anything a patient can do to mitigate SBO, or anything else that might be helpful? Thank you!

Hi, I had an umbilical hernia repair 8 years ago that resulted in some complications that required a further 4 more surgeries in the period of 2 months in total. Three months ago, I started experiencing extreme bloating and trapped wind. When this occurs, I feel strong gnawing pains in my upper abdominal in my stomach area while at the same time I feel wind or movement around the navel area sometimes when this happens. My stomach is very noisy as well, as though there are a family of frogs living inside me. Could this be a partial bowl obstruction? I worry that the hernia is back but it seems the same in appearance. Nothing bulging. Then i thought, could it be from adhesion? I don't even know if I developed those but can they present a problem 8 years after surgery?

I am in a similar boat and just had surgery. If I were you I would order a total free testosterone test from an independent lab. In women a common cause is ovarian cysts/endometriosis which often cause irregularities in hormones. This was the only test that popped up as irregular for me and eventually lead to surgery.

I had four surgeries for mid gut malrotation. Bowel obstructions are very painful and a person should go to ER if they have an obstruction. The pain builds to a crescendo then backs off only to return minutes later. Passing blood and vomiting blood are bad signs. Racing heartbeat .

The doctors in the ER were so attentive to me and my son who knows my eating habits and virtually EVERYTHING that I've Consumed for the last 90 days. Transferred to the main hospital, the doctors and nurses are totally disinterest in anything he has to say. I'm 98 years old and I'm afraid that they are killing me. Each procedure that they do seems to call for yet another procedure that is leaving me so weak my voice has changed and they won't give me a mirror so I can see why all of my friends and family cry upon seeing me. My son says they are not considering my last months history while treating me as they would a much younger person. This process and procedure is killing me and I'm not ready to die yet. I planned on living to 107 HELP ME PLEASE!

      TY for your well wishes,sincerely!
However a suggestion for another opinion would make feel encouraged to sign myself out. My sons asked to RECORD my stay and was read the Hippa laws. Interesting because it would be our word against theirs. Their " take " is a story of contradiction and mistakes.

@@graceaccardi6327 I truly hope you're out of that hospital and recovering well at home. Most Drs are not concerned with helping us , and very few people care about other's anymore. One tip ; you're better off at home if at all possible , get away from there . Tell your son to read about HIPPA very eye opening. I hope your well and having a great day...

Adhesive bowel obstruction is common and yes there is a high recurrence risk. Here is a segment from an article in annals of surgery and the link to read more…
Since 1990, it has been reported that adhesive SBO occurs in 3% of all laparotomies, 1% during the first postoperative year.6,7 After operated adhesive postoperative SBO, a risk of recurrence remains and the literature reported a wide ranging rate of overall recurrence (range, 8.7%-53%) at 3 years and more.

I am prone to obstruction due to having Crohn's and ulcerative colitis. I've had four bowel resections so far and because my guts like to develop adhesions, I know I will have to have more. I can attest that it is the worst pain I've ever felt. I have given birth, had kidney stones, and broken bones and will gladly take any one of those over a small bowel obstruction. Thank you for what you do. 💕

@@mattk5020 yes it's true. I have a problem with obstruction due to adhesions that form from scar tissue. Unfortunately for me, these surgeries are the only way for me to stay on the side of the living, but if they are not absolutely necessary I do not recommend starting.

@@artheadliner Thank you, and I am doing better ❤️ as far as foods go, there are times when I have to stick to liquids for a little bit, but on my "good" days I stay away from roughage like lettuce and raw veggies. Onion in any form can be quite inflaming, and most people have problems with dairy. I fortunately don't have that problem though. Stay well!
