I was REALLY hoping it was a 40k story, it's what convinced me to pick it.
I guess it's close enough, swap a few names and other details and it would fit the IP just fine.
NOTE: 40k fiction is ALL over the web, would love to get more stand-alone 40k short stories. (30min-1hr) is PERFECT length when you don't want to commit to a full audio-book and already watched EVERY Creator's Lore dump. Not sure I can handle another description of [insert main event here]. Almost every major event in the time line has been covered by at least 3 creators, ranging from really good to really bad. So I'm constantly looking for fresh new stories.

I suppose this tale is akin to, if not directly a part of the WARHAMMER 40K "universe". As such, i will not comment on the lore of the story; there is almost nothing logical about the 40K universe to me personally. Anything, and Everything grim can and will happen imn such a universe. Instead, i will just comment on the fact that the "God Engine" is described as "skeletal; a skeletal framework. that suggests to me a construct that has no armor to shield it's internal components from attack. the description is designed to give an atmosphere of dread; imagine a colossal, i assume humanoid engine of WAR. Pretty horrifying image, yes?
But even human warriors will don armor as they charge into battle, if they have access to it.
I sort of expected the narrator to explain that a part of the binding process surrounds the 'engine with an energy shield in the form of a translucent "body' through which an observer can glimpse a shadowy image of the skeletal structure beneath. Perhaps this energy shield is designed to take the form of a giant human warrior; massive muscles rippling with power and strength so as to overawe and inspire the lowly troops below. what miniscule soldier would not be willing to charge into battle with such a titan leading the vanguard.
BUT, as i have said before, logic is not part of such tales. The story itself is good, but it lacks (like all the others of this series) the spark of originality that marks good writing. .
