Definitely unusual tale by Toth/Austin! Superman was in a bizarre neutral period and DC was trying anything to get readers! I was on and off with Superman, something like this would catch my attention as Toth didn’t show often,Austin is always interesting and delineate anyone at this time! Terry gets ignored these days but shouldn’t be! He met monthly deadlines frequently, between X-men 108-143,Terry only missed 2 issues 110&118! These daze that would never happen! Just saying! GL story I’ve not seen in years and now you guys got me looking again! Great stuff, guys! I love the variety! Thanks and keep reading comix!

DC still does annuals holiday specials, and occasionally new talent showcases. Just drop by your local comic shop, guys.

Toth pencilled some more stories for DC in that time frame that Dan Adkins, Greg Theakson and Frank Giacoia inked. I've noticed when Toth just does pencilling he's much more creative with page design and when he was inking himself he stuck more to a rigid panel layout. I think that Superman story may have been for World's Finest and got shoved in a drawer so that may have added to it reading so dated but it was tough reading a lot of DC's output in the 70s and early 80s.

I was going to say "Toth inked by Austin looks a LOT like Gil Kane!"...

The reason the inks look heavier on those Fox stories is that they were drawn to size.
If my memory is correct on this, the Green Lantern story is the one where some presumptuous genius at DC decided to rearrange Toth's panels on a page. I'm sure he loved that.

The Superman was painful to look at, but it looked like they had fun and found a good groove for the Green Lantern.

TFW you're watching the video and you and Jim say John Ford and The Searchers at the exact same nanosecond.

I wonder if the Batman/Superman story was inventoried and may have been intended for the Super Friends book before it was cancelled? DC was always a bit corny compared to other companies at the time but that story is definitely a throwback

I love Toth's work, and maybe liked Austin's on other pencilers' work, and definitely was all about Batman & Superman team-upa when this came out but I recall being so turned off by this combo that I couldn't even enjoy it enough to finish. Most comic review of pre-crisis works are wonderful blasts from the past. This is one time I'd have preferred it to stay forgotten, lol. But thanks for doing it. Misery loves company.

Oh yes. Last week DC released every annual for the year all at once (felt like it anyway). 5.99 each. I almost passed out at the register.
