I absolutely hate amberwood, and yes, I think it is tarry. I've decluttered so many amberwood fragrances. I have a few I can tolerate but most are a big no!
I went into Selfridges after work yesterday and the whole perfume hall smelt like tar. It's in so many perfumes now and it's making me so sad! It's genuinely the first time I've ever been in there and been assaulted by that smell :(

You know how you always talk about that tar/burnt rubber smell you get from perfumes? I’ve seldom experienced that. Once with a Rosendo #5 sample and another time with a middle eastern Orientica dupe for Narcotique. Well today on the train I got it very strongly from a passenger! Initially she smelled nice with a projecting scent. But then I began to get whiffs of an underlying burnt rubber chemical smell. It was unpleasant. I immediately became self conscious bc I’m wearing Le Fluer Bouquet from Afnan! It smells so good to me but I wonder if what others are getting is that tar smell! 😭 no one in my family has said so but…
I'm sorry to say that I smell that smell everywhere nowadays and I can absolutely smell it on other people! Mind you, so many perfumes that people LOVE have that aroma chemical in nowadays, and I smell it SO frequently that I'd say that the majority of people can't smell it at all, so I wouldn't worry about it. I wear some perfumes that I know some people find indolic or cloying and I don't mind - I don't overdo the sprays so I'm sure it's not too much of a problem for them! :)
