Virtual eXtensible Local Area Network (VXLAN) is a tunneling protocol that tunnels Ethernet (layer 2) traffic over an IP (layer 3) network.
Great for the Data Center - we have full control over all the network devices, we can manage the MTU (there are 50B of overhead on the L2 header)
    Internet Service Providers?
There are some use cases, but we are waiting for Mikrotik to implement BGP-EVPN. I will talk about about EVPN-VXLAN in a future video (currently no supported in RouterOS)
Now supported in RouterOS v7. Learn how to configure it from scratch in this video!

Does this configuration work for transport broadcast data for transport TV signals from one site to another?

Very clear. I love your way to explain networking. Furthermore, your labs and diagrams are very helpful. Anyway, in a real scenario, data between branches of the same company would go through encrypted tunnel like Wireguard first. I mean, it would be VXLANs over a Wireguard tunnel or alike. Right? Thanks

Great video! Found it as I am troubleshooting my own VxLAN implementation. Do you take questions about such things?

Thank you so much, you are really good at explaining very complex topics. This is by far the best VXLAN tutorial. My question is , how would you set it up so that the tunnel is only used for local traffic and the internet traffic is used on the individual sites? With the current vxlan setup client 2 will use client 1's internet

Hi Willard!! Thank you for your comment.
Probably VXLAN is not the best solution in your scenario. If using VXLAN, we would need the users to be in a different broadcast domain, and then we can use Policy Based Routing or Routing Rules to use the appropriate output interface (local WAN interface or tunnel) according to the destination IP address. I would use a VPN such as WireGuard, L2TP, OpenVPN instead.
I will make some videos covering different types of VPNs soon.

I rarely put my comments on YT, but this one deserved a good job in explaining and demonstrating how vxlan works in Mikrotik. Clever use of eve-ng too.
