"i'm diggin' in the crates wit the candles lit, lookin' for a record to describe my anger so i can sample it..condense my feelings into 16 bars, and try to sugar coat my quotes so they won't seem raw." straight up dope on a rope.
Wow, its 2020 I'm living in London now and I still come back to this. Reminds me of when I lived in California in 2008, I was fresh out of high school and I use to bump this on repeat commuting and going to community college. I thought shit was bad back then and this would help me more then Blu would ever know. Looking back now at those days and realize how good everything was. I miss when everything was new and we were all just learning.
I feel the same man. I used to listen to this all the time during school days. Now I’m long graduated and trying to get by in the world. And damn thinking back it definitely wasn’t as bad as I sometimes thought.
@@anthonytruman I peeped this comment back when you said it btw but never responded, appreciate it - they are playing a festival called Rhymefest on April 15th and I really wish I could go but my brother in law gets married that weekend. Peace fam.
i’ve loved this song since high school. “building walls around the ignorance defending what’s wrong instead of fighting for freedom, that’s why i only write what i believe in”
"she idolize a life style but dont want any of it going down." sickest line. dont you just love real hip hop and the chill you get when you hear a dope track.
I remember requesting this song on the radio one day , They told me they didn't have any of him. But asked me if I wanted some Gucci Man...I hung up the damn phone.
The year is 2007. My uncle Joe showed me this song cause my grandma would pick me up after pre school since my parents worked. I was 5 years old. He was like 15. One of those first moments I knew my life was going to be hip hop. Never seen or knew anything like it ❤️
if you write music, you will appreciate this dude... dopest shit i heard ina minute, this is why music is timeless cuz he verbalizes what so many still think every day
Man been listening to this for like a good 2 years now, the official version the studio album, didnt know it had a music. Feel like I just found a piece of unappreciated Hip Hop history, Thank you Blu
So...just started listening to this guy like 20min ago...can't stop, not one bad song. Not only aren't they bad...they're all sick. Yo spread this guy around man like real shit tell your friends to look him up, this music's too good not to be heard....
thank God for blu i was just tellin myself to give up rappin cuzz the state its in and nobody wanna hear me keep it real been a blu fan for a minute never heard this song and juss so happened to help me out thats why i love music
i Think the reason Blu keeps changing producers is cuz he doesn't want his songs to have a similar sound. I've herd him say he doesen't want any of his songs to sound anything like the last. Blu is a true artist with huge range of musical talent. It will be exciting to watch him grow as an artist. hes a breath of fresh air for hiphop music. Blu Will Be HUGE!
Blu is just too good, like if I drift off while listening to him, and then zone back, i just get hit hella hard by his flow. His flow is quite solid, yet it sounds so smooth.
I wonder where all these people are now. Do they have wives/husbands and kids? Imagine showing them this video of this hidden gem they were in! If any of the people in the video still come to this let us know how you're doing!! This was the first Blu song I ever came across during my high school days in South Central. I always thought I related more with Blu out of all the other rappers I listened to because he was from Inglewood and I was from Baldwin Hills (a.k.a. The Jungles) which were literally next to each other. I hope to one day meet Blu and tell him how much he's inspired me as a lyricist at such a young age. If you're reading this Blu thank you, and thank you too Exile for the perfect beats to match Blu's style of raw bars over smooth jazz beats 💯
Awesome comment, I'd love to know to hear the people in the video tell the story of shooting this music video - this video is like a time capsule back to that era.
"Straining so far from the art, you start to wonder if they ever was a fan of it!" Lmao, damn right man. Gotta understand though, some love music more than money, and vice-versa dawg.
this the first time i've heard of this guy..i just got the new XXL mag and on the cover are some rapper that are up and coming and i want to check this blu guy..this song is sick i see him goin somewhere i hip hop
so much bullshit and negativity on the radio and people just go along with it. like sex makes a life and cash makes respect. blu speaks truth, im listening
damn i'm sad that i've slept on this dude so long...he raps about what i used to rap about back in the late 90's....refreshing to hear this finally gettin out.....sort of.
Wow... songs like this make me want to drive all around the city bumpin it loud as fuck.. but the sad thing is, most don't get the same feeling I do because they don't get it...
"It's a full out war, and i dont know who to listen to i thought rap was a postive gap i could get into. nowadays you got to bust a cap if they dissing you or be labeled a bitch cause you didnt shoot" Man i sweae Blu's bars never cese to amaze me Exile doesnt look like the type of person that be making crazy beat the way he does lol 2:21 - 2:25
Blu is probably one of the most slept on and under appreciated emcees of all time.

15 years ago!! I remember sharing this on Facebook like it was yesterday
cant stop listening to this. somebody get this on the radio.
One of my favourite Blu tracks. Nice tribute to Queen Latifah who came out with a track in 1993 with the same name.
