    Thankyou for video and your efforts to keep Uechi Ryu alive.
    Slightly different form then the way I was instructed by Fred Norris St louis. I learned old school techniques and katas. Norris was trained by Shinjo. Started at age 13 in 1967. Now age 70. Still learning and practicing. No longer teaching.

      Thank you, sir. And yes, I prefer to mix up the sequence of the drills. This is a fairly common practice, but to each their own. Best regards!

    Arigato Sensai Quimby, These fantastic videos with the passing of your years of knowledge are an exceptional opportunity for practice and health. Do you, Sensai have a video or plans to offer the traditional Jumbi Undo (Warm - Up Exercises) at some point when life returns to somewhat normalcy - JUMBI UNDO - Heel Pivot, Heel Lift and turn, Knee circles, Leg and ankle circles, Leg Lift and turn, Straight leg kick, Waist Scoop, Trunk twisting, Double arm thrusts, Neck Exercises. Thank you for your continued teaching.

    Very helpful training! These videos are valuable to us online practitioners. Easy to follow, full and slow speeds, perfect! Hope to see more.

      Dr. Steve,
      Where are you practicing online at? Or are you already at a black belt level from a traditional dojo?

    In which store can I get a uniform like yours? , with what kind of specifications should I ask for? , I see that it is very similar to kiokushinkay karate uniforms

      Thank you very much for your comment - I really appreciate your support. I would always recommend trying to use a jow to both increase recovery time as well as provide your body with the nutrients to become stronger. I hope this is helpful.
      Wishing you the best in your training.

    Hello, great class!
    I practice karate uechi ryu in Brazil in Goiânina -Goias.
    I am returning to training after a long layoff and see your videos to assist me in training.
    I make a suggestion, help promote our karate and continue posting these videos so quality. Sensei post the sequences of yakusoku kumite and kata more.
    Question because my karate school uechi ryu kata practice Fukatani?
    Good afternoon!

      Gracias Señor. Y sí, prefiero mezclar la secuencia de los ejercicios. Esta es una práctica bastante común, pero de cada uno lo suyo. ¡Atentamente!

    Why are the hands in an open position?

    • @AuthenticKarateTCWestPeabody
      @AuthenticKarateTCWestPeabody  ปีที่แล้ว

      The hands are left open primarily for grabbing at the end of blocking techniques as well as for open-handed counter-attacks.

    I guess I just found the Japanese words for Junbi undo - (Heel Pivot - Ashi saki o ageru undo), (Heel lift - Kakato o ageru undo), (Foot and ankle twist - Ashikubi o mawasu undo), (Knee circular bend - Hiza o mawasu undo), (Leg lift and turn - Ashi o mae yoko shita ni nobasu undo), (Straight leg lift - Asji o mae uchi naname ni ageru undo), (Waist scoop - Tai o mae ni taosu undo), (Trunk stretch - Koshi no nenten), (Double arm strike - Ude o mae yoko shita ni nobasu undo), (Neck rotation - Kubi o mawasu undo)

    When a San Chin stance, why is your foot not at a 45 degree angle?

    • @AuthenticKarateTCWestPeabody
      @AuthenticKarateTCWestPeabody  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John, 45 degrees is far to acute and unnatural. I wouldn't recommend anything greater than 30 degrees, however when applying internal pressure and proper pelvic tilt, one can attain similar results with the feet pointing at ninety degrees. Interestingly, some Okinawan systems that practice sanchin keep their feet straight.

    Could have sworn Hojo Undo was done with Weights, jars, etc
    This is more like a basic video on punching and kicking of Uechi Ryu.
