  • Jase has decided that he will head to court and make a case over his recent seatbelt ticket, but he’ll be representing and defending himself! The guys are joined by David Leonard, a Christian singer and songwriter famous for his hit “Great Are You Lord.” David opens up about the strain his father’s ministry was on his childhood and how he dealt with that struggle. Phil reckons that the Bible will be an endless source of inspirational messages, and Zach’s children perform at Willie and Korie’s new music venue and gathering hall in Monroe.

My husband was pulled over for the same thing. He always put the shoulder strap under his arm pit because he did not like it rubbing against his neck. When the officer stated he was being pulled over for not having his seatbelt on my husband showed him he was actually buckled in and said he did not know it was a law to have that shoulder strap on. The officer had showed mercy and gave him a warning. My husband was 61 yrs old at the time so he had been driving for many years this way. He has since wore the shoulder strap.

I think he is in the wrong and should have been explained by the officer how to correctly wear it. A warning should have been as far as it was carried.

My father-in-law was in a accident on I-20 over the Ouachita river. The sun was in a position where it blinded all the drivers going west. The cars in front of him stopped dead when they were blinded, he did not. He drove his car into the middle barrier trying to not hit them. The officer working the accident gave him a ticket for failure to maintain control. He felt he did not deserve the ticket and went to court. He went with the attitude of asking the judge if he thought he deserved it in that situation. Case dismissed. Jase, it never hurts to ask.

There is a fine line sometimes between what is legal and what is right. I do see the wisdom of just paying the ticket and not giving someone else the idea of skirting laws. On the other hand I do believe that law enforcement needs to be held accountable for their actions so that they don't become unconscionable authoritarians.

Hi Phil,Al,and Jase i seriously need help i never thought in a million years i would be asking you all this but here i am. I live in St.Rose Louisiana i have been looking for a job for awhile now and its hard to get one around here as of now and i've been praying for the Lord to help me in any way to get one. On top of that i have no friends to help me and my family is struggling too but i'm surrounded by negativity all the time with my family members. I try to stay positive and have faith in the Lord to help me but its been this way all my life and i'm 37 years old and nothing has changed. I am starting to believe the Lord doesn't want me and hates me for some reason and i can't believe i am saying that but i don't know what else to think or do. If something does happen or change soon i am afraid that i will be going down a dark path that i don't want to and give up on GOD and stop praying, asking, and reading the Bible and do what i have to do to survive if you know what i mean. I don't want to do these things but what else can i do. Your the only people i can think of for help. Do you have any advice? If you would like to talk instead of typing through comments let me know i can give you my phone number. Thank you for you and all your family has done for everyone.

Okay, multiple things. FIRST and foremost, do NOT represent yourself. The famous saying by Abraham Lincoln and trust me attorneys abide by this: "The man represents himself has a fool for a client." Lawyers don't even represent themselves. Retain an attorney, they will not listen to anything you have to say. Second, Thank You for standing up. Third, I do support the police, I always have but, I don't do it blindly. With TH-cam, I am seeing so many videos where the police don't know the law or do and don't care. They are bullying people and flat out lying to citizens. Apparently, it is NOT against the law for the police to tell lies to citizens. Cameras need to on by both the citizen and the officer and then there can be zero problems. The problem is, police HATE to be recorded and will lie to you saying you can't. You will need an attorney to properly subpoena the body camera footage and you NEED that done properly. While you should be able to get that via a FOIA request, there is no guarantee and they may delay it over and over again but, if you retain an attorney, they have to do it or face the consequences. GET AN ATTORNEY. You definitely should fight this. The police don't know the law yet, they are "enforcing" the laws. Basically, from the videos I have been watching they are bullying citizens and making things up as they go along. The only way to "fix" the police doing the wrong thing is to make it public. Before all the videos I have watched on TH-cam, I thought, well don't act like a jerk and the police will treat you with respect. That is obvious, this is not the case. Keep in mind too, these are only the cases that people actually recorded and put on TH-cam, how many others get the same or worse and don't record it? The police need to have integrity. We all do. The problem is, the alarming numbers of police that obviously don't. All the videos showing the blatant lies and bullying show me that there needs to be reform. The police need to clean house. They also need to TRAIN their officers. If the departments are allowing their officers to interpret the law, or even encouraging this, that is a problem. This gives the police the right to bully citizens, lie to them, make up their own "laws" and that is not what the Constitution is about. I am not saying all officers are bad. I would say the percentage is in our favor but, there is obviously a large percentage that are doing wrong. The police are "law enforcement", how can anyone "enforce" the law if they don't "Know" the law? This needs to change. PLEASE get an attorney, stand up and reject this. It is not that "Jase is better than others and it is only $25", no, it is a police officer (probably a LOT more) just making up stuff. If they re-write the law so that it states it must be worn in a very particular manner, that is one thing. You have the case from two separate attorneys where that is not the case. That means the "law enforcement" are just making stuff up. That can't be allowed. If there is going to be "equality", then the same laws apply to everyone "equally". Here we have a clear case of an officer just making stuff up. Either out of ignorance, bullying, lying, who knows but, it is wrong.

I’ve never understood why if you can ride a motorcycle on major interstate or a bus which don’t have seat belts why you should be able to tell a person in automobile they have to have one.

I believe that the police officer knew he was going to give a ticket before he got out of the cruiser. He didn't think you had your seat belt on. When he realized he was wrong, HE should have had the integrity to admit that and apologize. Instead he decided to create some interesting interpretation of an obscure statute. So sorry for you, Jase.

Even if you are correct?;what kind of witness are you showing the officer? Also in how you say you spoke to the officer came across very arrogant.
I listen to the podcast about 5hrs a day. Love your passion for the word of God. But what about grace in speaking with the officer?
If you think he was wrong go to court. But how you handled this issue with the officer did not leave him with a good witness.

The only reason seatbelt laws are in existence, is for police revenue. Car manufacturers didn't even put them in vehicles until the 70's. Even then it was optional. But now that there is an open door for revenue, boom! Now you get tickets or a reason for the cops to pull you over and boom! Again, more reason to find more revenue making material. You can compare it to helmet laws. There's just not as many motorcycles as cars. Car insurance used to be the same way. It wasn't a law until "they" could find a reason to make money. Used to be optional. If they were worried about our safety, there would be a 5-point harness in every car. And every car would come with a helmet.

OK, I guess I'm missing something there.....I disagree that the bridge in Great Are You Lord is the greatest of all time.
It may be anointed, it is definitely fitting for the rest of the song. However, it is NOT the greatest. In fact, the song leans toward monotone, in my opinion. I find it rather repetitive and boring, which is why people get lazy performing it.
If a song moves you spiritually, it doesn't necessarily mean it is a great song. It's great that it moves you but that is why we have so many different genres of music. Different things move different people. Very few people can agree on a top 10 list of anything.
If you are going to make a claim like, "it's the greatest", you'd better put a qualifier on it...
Maybe just say that the song moves you?
