- Welcome to the 2024 Caliban guide, I go into massive detail over Caliban's abilities and give plenty of tips and tricks on how to use him, AND build him in general. My 10 years of experience in Warframe definitely helps me understand Caliban, with a deep analysis of his abilities and testing out multiple scenarios I hope that all the information I have learned and gathered will help you understand Caliban as well.

Sorry I couldn't make it come out sooner getting sick really put a break on things for me. But I hope you can find some enjoyment out of Caliban as well, I love his flavor and appeal, kinda gives me hope that we can get a Grineer hybrid Warframe sometime.
Furi and Hylics again, the intended songs I wanted to use where copyright protected in such a way that even the artists where pissed off at it. So I'm disappointed that I can't use the songs I wanted, but also taught me the lesson of testing before committing.
But I feel like I did a lot better editing wise for this guide, I learned a lot of new things while I was sick to try and make the quality of this one better. Thank you all for the critiques on the sound quality and such let me know if it turned out better for y'all. I do need to figure out the video quality though, I ended up upgrading my video editing software and it seems to be acting up in some strange ways but I found a workaround for them. Can't be perfect you know?

Some corrections from the comments:
1. Fusion strike has no limit to the amount of Auras you can have out on the field, the only thing limiting you is your energy and duration. So even more value!
2. Sentient Wrath will only hit enemies that have a homing projectile, all the extras are only there for aesthetics and will only phase through enemies acting as an indicator for when you can recast Sentient Wrath.
3. Titania was the first Warframe that wasn't created by Ballas, Caliban is second.
I'll make sure to keep this comment updated with any more corrections that come.

do you think you could do banshee next ?
im trying to crack her myself since i noticed not many of them run around but im having difficulty, an in depth guide like that could really help.
If sentients wrath doesn't home in on an enemy, it will continue on its original path, however, these walls CANNOT hit enemies. TLDR walls cannot hit enemies if they aren't homing on it.
The real reason I haven't built Caliban is anomaly shards must be farmed from railjack, and I gave all my isoplast to Little Duck.
This isn't even the worst part in my personal experience.
The massive amount of Narmer Isoplasts you need for him is the bottleneck, especially when you don't get lucky with your bounties.

I did farm him, I really don't suggest you do unless you want mastery that bad
The farm wasn't that bad, but I really enjoy railjack and was trying to speed run Fortuna bounties so the isoplasts were fairly passive.
What made Caliban click for me in my mind is picturing him not only as a beast of two worlds, a twin-throne prince, but also a mage-Knight. A dual-discipline field regent of might and mana, leading his loyal few outcasts into battle to vindicate their struggle.
Now we just need a neat skin and some augments for him

Dude i love the way you go through the Warframes abilities and mention EVERY single little detail, which nobody else on this platform cares to mention (if they even know about them).
Now, having a new perspective on what he can actually do with his abilities, i'm eager to finally try him out, as well as playing atound with his Sentient Wrath helminth on other frames!
The ability looks and feels sick as well as being hella overloaded in terms of perks.

1- tierlists sucks all the fun in games by making things apper worst then they really are;
2- i really love your style of videos, this very very detailed guides are so fun a insightfull, warframe is a really hard game to master build crafting, and this kind of video helps a lot;

Almost everyone has missed how insanely good Caliban has become over time.
I wouldn't quite put him in S-tier because he does require a fairly active playstyle (whereas the absolute best warframes can do as well with less effort).
However, he's got high duration AOE defense strip (armor and shields), immense survivability, can apply powerful damage vulnerability, and has incredible CC.
I have to assume that anyone who still thinks Caliban is weak or mediocre just hasn't played him since he was released.
The Cult of Caliban has a new member. I suck at Steel Path but a half assed build took me to 30 minutes. A thing i dont do and im a long time player.
I actually think i can do Netracell missions with him easy.

This is so true. I've been playing this game for almost 8 years now (2800 login days completed two days ago) and this is what I settled down to. Maybe it's the 45+ boomer mindset I have right now. It's why I take my shattered lash Loki into many missions and just hang back and let others do the killing. I don't need to always be doing the killing even though I can easily hold my own if really required. I see all these thermal Sunder titanias and garudas and Tenet/tonkor gauss' roughing it out in missions, while I just stay in the back, hoovering their "hard" work and still somehow mostly reaching the finish line first. Life's easy when you let the pawns do your work for you😁

Honestly the intro was supposed to be with a different song but copyright BS was trying to take over and the artist of the original song Carpenter Brut hates how it is being handled.
It would have been Hotline Miami 2: roller mobster WHICH fit way better for the mood. Sadly I didn't test and committed too hard on it. Also just wanted to stay in the Caliban "theme", it's all good if it's not your cup of tea, just seemed like a fun thing to do.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm doing the nourish build and it's crazy. Tanked 2 heavy gunners in steel path while I had my sentiments down and got over shield while casting them. I love shield tanks, I'd love to see a chroma one.

I know Warframe is a game of trying out many different things to see what works best for yourself. Sometimes there is that "one build" that outperforms the others, but that shouldn't diminish the other capabilities a frame has.

Funny enough, I was about to look up stuff about caliban, good thing I can watch this

this guide inspired me to use Caliban and I've had success with a Tau purple shard replacing equilibrium and running a rank 5 arcane steadfast over that on the nourish. It's a large workaround for just equilibrium but the extra mod slot gives him even more adaptability.
such a fresh take on a warframe guide, loved the indepth explanations for caliban's kit. also, the idea for the intro segment was great but personally i feel like execution was lacking in some aspects.

This is the level of depth, enthusiasm and generosity of brainstorming that is to be commended. thank you, I'm not remotely a Caliban main. but I've to admit that even after extensive play I'd given up on making him good... now, I'm willing to give it another shot, considering I have the means and the resources. and he is being looked over by Pablo for perhaps some future changes... although that's yet to be seen of course... I would like to see the conculists being a little bit buffed personally, maybe have the option to cycle them into being different types of sentients we could call on.

I’m not necessarily a Caliban main but I seriously enjoy him and greatly appreciate you giving him the love he deserves. The community has underrated him for a long while and it’s kinda sad to see considering he’s a bit difficult to get alone.
Very informative video for the unsung warrior, personally I used full umbra stacks and vitality with armars hatred and power drift. With that build I can go pretty long in a sp kuva survival

Caliban is amazing with resonator, it’s a great way to group up all the enemies for his 4 while also giving you an extra target for enemies to shoot.
I also love using caliban with silence if I’m doing a level cap cascade run, which prevents the endless thrax ability spam.
I love the idea of the silence, makes him even more anti-everything.
I picked up caliban a few months ago to try to see if he was as bad as everyone said he was, and genuinely he was actually endgame viable. Got to the point where I could run SP Tuvul Commons and have no deaths while my teammates were on life 2. I hope this really lifts the veil on how good caliban really is and I very much appreciate learning the specifics of his abilities.

The way you explain Caliban's interaction with helminth systems (adapting to the ability you choose to replace, his 2 3 4 is inheritly mundane), it severely reminds me of Rhino, with your explanation, it does make sense in Caliban's perspective.
"Giving Caliban the helminth system drastically changes his playstyle, it makes Caliban adapt to the respective ability you choose, and due to his 2 3 4 is mundane it makes the abilities do so much better due to the uniqueness of chosen subusmes."
And this sentence, also explains Rhino, perfectly, which I do not expect at all.

Just farmed tenet weaps yesterday with Caliban and its a blast !
I am new to the game so i dont have access to alot of frames and thats where the circuit mod comes in clutch, I try alot of warframes from their not knowing anything about them (of course not reading too cuz who does that) and for the most part after 3 to 5 rounds of playing them i get the hang of it, that was not the case with caliban i played 10 rounds with this frame and I always had the feeling that I can do better that their is a more efficient way to utilize his skill set, and your video proved me right.

Oof both those choices be tough. Banshee has so much potential but being made of tissue paper. While Valkyr is either the literal invincible frame or just the eternal war melee machine with 2 next to useless abilities. My vote is banshee because I am curious if you find a way to make her survival kinda comfy because I have tried and failed in that regard (not counting gloom because but gloom works on everything). 😅 Love the content keep being awesome!
Yo, imma try reev for mobility cus why not, the condemm I use helps me to recover shields and it has been my go to option for him. the coil and the viral tempest ones are very interesting to say the least, imma give them a try as well.
This video here has a similar view to my adoration to Caliban. He has incredible potential, a solid foundation, but missing the meat to really make him flourish proper. Got him a year after his release, and been having a blast playing his kit. Really hope DE address some of his major flaws in the near future because he needs some love. Nobody gives him the time of day thanks to how people run their meta-addled minds. There are some things I never learn from him, and gonna utilize it for the future. Personally I like running Nourish to give his Conculysts Viral along with spreading it en masse. Gives it heavier CC to match my play style a tad more. Gonna try that Thermal sunder one though, looks like fun.
I agree on the meat part, but he still has some on his bones just not a lot compared to others.

Sadly there is no official list.
A lot of it came down to testing, but any Warframe ability that can buff the target with more damage or a specific element works with Conculysts.

Okay, man. You made me play the absolute *hell* out of Vauban when you dropped all that info on him before. But Caliban? That wasn’t something I expected. If you ever take a look at my first main frame, Limbo, then allow me to share one tip:
Banish has a hold that lets you cancel it early for no extra energy cost, and manually trigger Radial Banish on your 3 on top of that. In some cases, it makes his 4 a less effective way of pulling enemies into the rift (unless Acolytes are capable of rolling out of the rift, which I don’t have any concrete evidence of if they can or not). This opens your 4 up as the slot to helminth, which lets you take advantage of Precision Intensify. I myself slotted in Pillage, and it works hilariously with his 3’s augment

Caliban, my beloved
as a Caliban lover, I looooove using his 4, plus the little sentient crew is fun, and his 2 as surprisingly good. My biggest gripe though is that his one really doesnt do it for me, and I wish I didnt have to cast his 3 well, 3 times. Beyond that though he has a really fun and unique kit, and also just looks and feels cool too.

I'd vote for Banshee, I have her prime but every time I look at her skills I just get overwhelmed cause I don't know what to do with her, and I assume a lot of people experience the same
Frames like Zephyr, Nidus, and vice versa never get played and people forget about them until someone makes a video about it. I hope Caliban gets a grendel like rework in time, his design is really cool.
Maybe some day, it would be awesome to see him get a bit of a lift!
@@ProfessorDysto I think the core issue behind Caliban is that a lot of players are looking for cohesively powerful frames with almost no downsides. Revenant with his armor is so good you can ignore anything else, but you shouldn't because the whole kit is basically good. People ignore nyx meanwhile they chase x% power strength to strip enemies or farm green shards for one purpose but ignore the practicality or usability of that goal. Saryn scales and she can double buff to dumb numbers which double dip bane mods completely nullifying lvl cap enemies. Meanwhile look at this frame who has conculysts that do nothing, even though helmith exists.
Good job on the video, I had farmed him 2 times and have him sitting in the arsenal. If I get him in duviri I would have a good chance of a longer run.
I always liked his Stomp, insanely strong power imo.

You can also if willing to use a kit gun , using theorem infection can give summons up to 15x damage and on kit gun the corresponding arcane can give an element , if you really want to do it can use a second kit gun with diff arcane and get dual elements albeit that’s really pinicky to upkeep , basically same tech nekros can do , is amusing if using nourish or other buff at same time on top of strip they just delete stuff haha

I don't know if you mentioned this but I think the nourish buff applies to the conculysts just like vaubans flechette orb
I've be running an electric elemental ward with caliban and it's been slapping fools and being tanky as hell, also used the sentient skin for sentinels and have a horde of sentients all killing rooms of SP enemies and I'm not even shooting XD

@@ProfessorDysto I've been using Caliban ever since I bought him when I came back to play the new war, and the stuff from the video ahs been really helpful - I know it's not the most optimal thing, but I really enjoy using roar on him and playing alongside the sentients and specters - I will definitely check out your vauban video!
I'm only 15 minutes in and hearing and reading about Fusion Strike, googled around, but couldn't find anything: does it work like Pillage does in that it's coded as damage against shields? Cause Pillage scales with Roar to fully shield strip as early as early as Corrosive Projection or Magetic procs enable a full shield strip. So if Roar works, you can put it on his 1 and have full armor and shield strip at 164% Strength. Tharros Strike would do that, too, but I haven't tested either.
Gonna watch the rest of the video now and hope that you tested this, lol.
Never knew about that interaction with pillage that's a new one to me.
But I went and tested out Fusion strike to see if it does the same thing but sadly it doesn't, seems like the Aura is the thing that causes the strip and it is separate from the damage the ability. Thanks for the insight though!

My one thing regarding Adaptation vs his passive would be how beneficial would be to run Cal on a squad that most likely runs adaptation as well. Do they benefit from the passive at all if that's the case? If not maybe Caliban could be seen as more of a solo-oriented frame?
Even if you're running in a team going full adaptation his passive can still come in to play in some aspects. While the 90% completely disappears once the duration is gone, his passive is still there draining over time so instead of starting at 0 resistance Caliban's passive can help the team get a head start restacking the resistance, it also helps the companions stay alive for longer too.
It mostly goes unnoticed most of the time, but it does help in a small way.
But Caliban does work well as a solo frame a s well, just because his passive cannot be utilized by the team doesn't mean you should disregard him as a support for the team, his 2 and 4 are still excellent abilities.
@@ProfessorDysto I see. That also means Vazarin could be his school of choice since (at least in my case) I'll be tanking and stripping defenses with the frame; and also provide shield regen/health regen/more passive range with op/drift 🤔
I really wanna say Valkyr just because of all the new melee stuff that came out, but i feel like Banshee would be a better idea.
If she's in a similar position to Caliban, where there isn't a lot of documented tips and tricks (or if you can find something new), then it'd make more sense to do her first. Then you could do Valkyr next!

This video has inspired me to dust of Caliban and take him for a spin into Steel Path. Testing a variant of the Thermal Sunder build and looking forward to trying out Coil Horizon. You can also utilize Gauss' augment to boost elemental damage if using Thermal Sunder, which can be pretty potent.
I'm curious why you went with Equilibrium on several of the builds, do you have a companion running Synth Deconstruct to generate them>
Good eye, yup I sure do it's my primary way of managing energy on most of my Warframe builds.
I plan on making a build video of my companion builds that way people can have a good guideline for energy, survivability, and extra stats.

Sure does!
I keep changing my build up especially since the new augment mod came out along with the status rework, but something like this would probably work out:
Galvanized Hell, Scattering inferno, Frigid blast, Acid Shells, Galvanized savvy, Shotgun barrage(amalgam if you got it), Clip Delegation, and Blaze or Chillin reload. Exilus: Galvanized Acceleration. Arcane: Shotgun Vendetta or Primary Merciless.
The blast rework is absolutely insane and would be a great benefit for this build since you already give yourself viral. Focus on armor stripping and status all your enemies to death!

i went into caliban recently has i wanted to make my own judgment of every frame and wanted to learn more of shields so i read lots of overframe and content talked with my 3 buds that play him a bit and found 3 things 1. saxon set is fun has hell. 2. crescent is great with hunter command and now use it more then panzer (still less then my sisters hound). 3. -shield recharge delay can be a great comfort tool for frames that can use adaptation and has some kind of immortality (nyx without assimilate using absorb is fun) or invis (ivara with more use of clock arrow or navigator or just using prowl lightly) or shield regain (harrow) for everyday SP content (not really high cascade but under 1-2k its fine for life)
now for caliban even after the video i have problems with his theme but its still fine he feels sentiant just not what we think first about has he is not really the adaptation part but the abilitys part of them has for abilitys his 1 needs to flat be 2x damage then now and have it be slash makes it cheaper to use so its fun has rn its the worst ability in the game (even decoy can be used with banish and switch teleport gives slight immunity or speeds up bountys) his 2 is fine his 4 is great but his 3 is problematic i think they should enemy level + (10 x str) or make them be able to be like orbs from protea where it will force the shield to regenerate but at the cost of them losing a lot of hp both can work or even both
and i like him i am now using him quite a bit but not having shield gate makes him not has comfy has my other options to use in some gamemodes has while i can get myself to insane survivability its using tech he cant abuse like limbo or nyx with things like quick thinking plus 1 blue shard hp regain he does not have the space for the arcane guardion and energy nexus dreamers bond and so on and has no consistent panic option like lavos first ability

Oh hey, i was wondering when this was getting uploaded. I have played a lot of Caliban since he was released so i was looking forward to this since i mentioned him on Freak's stream and you teased it.
Still a bit annoyed that the Conq's baseball bats don't get coloured.
I do not know why but when i read "Don't be afraid" my head just goes: "Yes, this is to be read with a Welsh accent". So there is that.

Might be interesting to see a Valkyr video. She's relatively simple, all things considered, but there's still some nice build potential there:
- Her high armour value makes Arcane Blessing have way more impact on her than many other warframes
- Her high armour value is base armour, not reliant on abilities or passives like some warframes, and can thus have some hilarious scaling builds (Mecha mod set in particular works hilariously well, Mecha Pulse is insane off of Valkyr)
- She's probably the most generalist and accessible of the melee-using warframes, with Warcry having low upkeep with Eternal War and only further enhancing her natural tankiness
- One of the few frames with access to finishers on command as part of her base kit
- Has invulnerability during her healing phase
Because she's one of those warframes where all of her abilities are kind of their own thing rather than some uber-synergistic kit, helminth options tend to work rather reliably for her. Heck, she is, to-date, the only warframe I've legitimately used Hideous Resistance on just as a general melee survivalist build.
Playing her with Lycath's Hunt and Equilibrium has been a revelation for me. She did go in my mind from "need a buff" to "she is already a monster" very quickly.
@@Okaazkul It's been possible to go full Hysteria for quite a while, but the new age of health orb accessibility has definitely made it a lot easier.
My primary issue with Hysteria is just how much it's a spin attack machine. The spin attack is so overpowered compared to the rest of the weapon that there's just not a whole lot of point to using anything else, so it ends up being kind of boring honestly.
Fun-wise, I definitely prefer using Hysteria as a healing phase and using a normal melee weapon to get a bit of variety.

Minor error with big consequences: Fusion Strike auras are _NOT_ capped at 2. There is _NO_ cap to the number of Fusion Strike auras that can be active at once.

I could be wrong on this but back in the day when he released I believe he was limited to two.
I have no clue if this is accurate or not but to be honest the gameplay doesn't change that much with Caliban, it's just WAY more effective than I first though. So thank you again for this, Fusion Strike is even STRONGER now!
@@ProfessorDysto Ye. I have to say, I also ended up putting casting speed on Caliban. He is, no joke, the only warframe in the game I have ever told people that casting speed isn't just helpful, it's dang near mandatory. Before Archon Shards, I legitimately had Natural Talent on my build for him.
My only complaint is that casted isn't a word, cast is the past and current tense of the word.

Caliban feels like post nerf Gyre before she got her augment, somehow incomplete. Probably why he's not that popular or even hated.
