Thanks David.
You are very welcome. I hope you find it useful.
I noticed you installed sodtware/drivers from CD/DVD. Did you check to see if there were updated deivers from their website?
Im curious about whether updated drivers would enable more performance.
Also, last i looked at TB adapters for PC, they were pretty specific to the motherboard. Is there a BIOS/UEFI setting that needs to be enabled or changed?
Great questions Jeremy.
The driver CD I used exactly matches what is on the ASUS Website file-to-file, including date to date.
There is however a new firmware for the unit available on that site as well, but the Read-me file is somewhat confusing and concerns me. Here it is word for word (including spelling):
“TBTFwUpdateToolEfi V1.3 is Update PD and Thunderbolt Firmware Tool for THUNDERBOLTEX 4 Add in card
※Please note that this motherboard must be supported [ThunderboltEX 4] add in card and should be confirmed thunderbolt function had work properly
Update step
1.Please extract the TBTFwUpdateToolEfi V1.3 file and copy it to a USB Drive.
2.insert USB Drive on motherboard
3.press the [Power key] then press and hold the [F2] into BIOS setup meun
4.Click[Advanced mode]
5.Select [Exit] and [Launch EFI Shell from USB drive] into shell mode for update process”
I will do some more research and try to understand this update tool more before I try it, and I may make a video about it as long as it doesn’t ‘brick’ my card.
Also, I believe I showed the Motherboard BIOS settings needed to support the device, and I did not think anything there could affect the performance.🥴
The glorious Corsair cube case lives
I like the air flow and it solid construction. It would be perfect if the plastic window were tempered glass, however what it has is very thick and resist scratches.

Yeah, I have the same case. My only gripe with it was maybe I should have gotten the mATX version (along with a mATX mobo) back when I built my computer. Then again, modern cases are gigantic by comparison, so my cube case isn't actually horrible to haul around
Thank you for your transfer speedtest. Is the external nvme set to exFAT?
I set it to NTFS, if that is what you mean?
Hello, will you have the driver that comes on the cd to share? I've been trying the one on the website but it doesn't seem to work.
I recently updated my driver with the one provided on the ASUS Website for this device. There is also a new Firmware update there that I plan on installing and making a video about.
I got a CD player and tried every possible way but couldn't get it to work. The new firmware is a downgrade
@@JulioAbreuu You don't see the Drivers on the ASUS Website? I really do not have an easy way to get it to you since I do not nave (or need) a Website.
Yes, I was able to install them from the Asus website but it still didn't work for me. I thought it was because the drivers might be different from the ones on the album (which they are) but using the drivers on the disc and the web I didn't succeed. I gave up and now I'll return the thunderboltEx
@@JulioAbreuu Sorry to hear that it didn't work.
I’m using windows 10 and using this same thunderbolt card for my Apollo twin x interface I noticed one problem, it won’t recognize my interface unless it’s turned on and connected before the pc is on , I I just try to connect it while the pc is already on it won’t be recognized do you know what it could be ?
Thanks for the information. I'm sure it may help some of my viewers.
Hey did you figure it out?
@@prodwoodroach no with my current set up , it worked fine before with an asrock motherboard and gigabyte alphine ridge thunderbolt 3 card , now i have Asus z790 strix f and Asus ex4 thunderbolt card . It only will work if i turn the interface before turning the pc , otherwise I will have to restart, I contacted support they are not very helpful, I would say maybe get a different brand motherboard with thunderbolt on board like the taichi from asrock
@@prodwoodroach I will do a clean windows install , I’m using the one I had on my old system that could cause drivers to get buggy but I will let u know if that fix the problem,
@@prodwoodroach Was that question for me or one of the other persons commenting?
I have only 1000 MB/s with TB4.
Ouch. Did you load the driver software?
@@PE4Doers Yes, all the latest divers and firmware. The new firmware from February 2024 worked, but there is another problem. the same enclosure with a WD850 drive works perfectly, but the Samsung 980 PRO has a write speed of 3000 and a read speed of only 500 MB/s
If anyone has a problem with installing Thunderbolt control center, the version from the Microsoft Store can be installed without any problems.
@@nnnnnn3647 OH no. I will go and test mine again tonight and get back to you.
