Thanks so much for watching! I hope you found this video on Typefaces for Children's Books and how to use them creatively helpful. If you’re planning to write a children’s book, let me know! I can’t wait to cheer you on!
Can I use fonts from Pro-Create without having an issue of copyright? I don't get when I can use font and when I cant and how to know? I draw and use fonts from Procreate
Boy! Thank you. I never knew I would have to pay for fonts or that I had to pay attention to them before using them to write my children's books!! You gave me a lot of information. Thank you a lot!!!
again thank you so for your wonderful caring information. As i mentioned before i am 82, and rewriting a children's book i wrote 38 years ago. i am so appreciative for your sharing. i was a teacher, mainly high school and i am so excited to try to publish this book for last time i did not have an agent and i was rejected by the book publishing co's! you are a wonderful teacher. thanks and wishing you the best always. Sharon Goldberg Mercado
That is so very sweet of you to say! Thank you so much for your kind words! I wish you so much luck with the rewriting of your children's book, Sharon!
I am 77 and just first time writing (having it illustrated ) my bucket list story from 1968! You beat me in the oldest fan of Eevi category! LoL I send you love and much luck.
I'm in the process of writing my first children's book. I hadn't even thought of checking to see if the font I was using was licensed or free to use. I Googled it and found that for Microsoft Word fonts, "The general rule is that you can use them in any way you like, even in commercial products (such as published books). What you can't do is resell them as fonts." I'm binge watching your videos, Eevi. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us.
This video is packed with so many creative ideas that my imagination is spinning like a top. Eevi's font tips are like the frosting on the cake that will entice children to want to gobble up a book. Thank you Eevi for your cheat sheet too.
Thank you Eevi! I am new to writing children's books and your channel is such a treasure! I always learn so much from watching your videos. I recently wrote two children's books and was about to publish on KDP. I have Canva's pro plan and thought it was okay, since I had the pro version to use any of the graphics/fonts in my books as long as I used them in a "unique/creative" way. Yikes! KDP asked if the material in the book was "public domain" or "did I hold the copyright?" ..... I couldn't answer "yes" to either of the questions, so I decided not to proceed. I bought an iPad Pro this week and will try to figure out a way to illustrate them myself with Procreate. It's great to know about the fonts. I'm so happy that there are some Canva fonts I may be able to use. Thanks again for all the information you freely share!
I love you, Eevi! I have one question. Do you choose a different font whether your published book is and eBook or soft/hard cover? Or do you have 2 different files? I plan to publish a softcover and eBook, but this is really holding me back on creativity. THANK YOU!
You're so sweet, Laura! Our ebook and paperback interior files will be two different files, but I use the same illustrations. I went ahead and shared a link to a video that shows us how. And I use the same font for both formats. The only difference is that I sometimes increase the font size for my ebooks. I so hope this helps! th-cam.com/video/X8F8ANCaM6Q/w-d-xo.html
Hi Eevi Thanks so much for this and the links!! I see on your cheat sheet there is a font called 'Open Dyslexic'. Which size and fonts do you suggest so all children, including those with dyslexia, are most suitable for a Lower Middle-Grade adventure, please? TIA Anne Maree Durnan
Thanks so much for your kind words, Anne Maree! I've seen multiple middle grade books using a dyslexic font, so that would be a wonderful option. Regarding the size, I would go ahead and look at similar books, as there are no set rules.
I don’t know how it all happened, but you launch the videos that exactly follow the steps of my first book 😀 I have got the illustrations and I am currently looking for the right font. Don’t you have a TH-cam video on formatting the book? 😁 I still don’t get what to use, photoshop, in design or canva 🤦♀️
I'm so happy you find these videos so helpful, Ana! I don't have a video on formatting just yet, but my How To book has an entire chapter on this topic. I personally use different methods, depending on the book. If you're comfortable using Canva, I also created Canva templates that I called "Plug + Go Templates (www.eevijones.com/chibu-courses/). I so hope this helps!
Hi Albert! According to canva, all their free elements can be used for commercial & noncommericial use. Just note that the free Canva version provides access to a limited amount of fonts, while Canva Pro gives us access to the complete font library with over 1000 fonts. Happy creating!
Hi Robert! How are you? To find any of my mentioned links, simply click on the tiny "more" that appears right below the title of the video, if you are using the phone. On your computer, click on the "show more" that appears in the description box below the title and channel info. I hope this helps.
Hi Eevi. I'm setting up my KDP account to upload my first book.. What concerns me is all the tax information questions.. Will book sales effect my personal tax in anyway? Tks
How much it will impact our personal taxes will depend on (1) how we are set up as a writer and (2) how much we are making with our books. Please make sure to ask your CPA if you should have more questions regarding your taxes.
Always love 💕 your videos. I noticed someone wrote that your videos drop exactly when they are on that step of their book writing journey. I wish I had this when I was searching. My paperback was just published last month. I’d love to gift you a copy for your children if you’d share an address you’d like me to send it to. It’s SAMANTHA JEAN’S RAINBOW 🌈 DREAM - A Young Foster Girl’s Adventure into the Colorful World of Fruits & Vegetables. When I gave my eye doctor a copy of my book for the waiting room, she told me she has an idea for a children’s picture book. I gave her all the information about your book and videos. So hopefully she’ll have everything she’ll need before she starts writing!
I'm so, so happy you love the videos, Lucia! CONGRATULATIONS on your new book! It sounds absolutely wonderful. You are truly the best for sharing my information with your doctor!

It was very helpful video, keep creating. I came here as I am doing my first children’s book.
Hi Ali! I'm so happy to hear you found this helpful! Good luck!
Thank you. Great information. Canva has two great “children’s” fonts, unfortunately neither can be italicized (for inner thoughts)
You're so very welcome, Dawn! And I agree - I wish all fonts came with the bold and italics option.
As always, great information. Thanks, Eevi.
You're so, so very welcome!

Quick question about Canva. Either the free version or the paid version, are all fonts included for commerical use?
Hi Albert! According to canva, all their free elements can be used for commercial & noncommericial use. Just note that the free Canva version provides access to a limited amount of fonts, while Canva Pro gives us access to the complete font library with over 1000 fonts. Happy creating!
