This was such a fun interview to watch. I believe that I started watching OLTL in 1987. I remember the 1888 storyline very well. And Tina and Cord were my favorite couple to watch on OLTL.
I'm so excited to see Brenda again!! I was so sad when she left the show and just thought she had disappeared after all of these years. She was always my favorite character on the show, and I'm just so excited to see her again. Thanks so much for this wonderful interview.
Salutations from coastal Mississippi. Thank you for an excellent reunion. Wonderful memories. I have all my daytime drama "Bibles" . Llanview Pa forever ❤
Watching this was just delightful! The 1888 storyline was my all-time favorite storyline because, of course, it starred my dear friend, Clint "Bucky" Ritchie. I have so many memories of being with him at Happy Horse Ranch and hearing his recollections about filming the show, but his face truly lit up when he talked about the Buchanan City storyline. He always said those were his happiest days on OLTL and it definitely showed in his performance. And yes, he told hilarious and touching stories about Phil Carey & Bobby Woods, and the special relationship they had. I'm only saddened by the fact that neither Clint nor Phil could participate in this reunion, but I firmly believe that they were with all of you as you recorded your conversation. Thanks to Steve Bergman for notifying me.
Clint Ritchie would have loved to see the little homage Quentin Tarantino paid him in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". Having grown up as a child of the 80's, watching "One Life" first run, I always regarded Clint as my favorite TV Dad. He played a stable character who had a genuine love for his wife and children. In some way it seemed, maybe the show not only fulfilled Clint's Old West fantasy, but his dreams of a family? Though I LOVED Michael Malone's writing style after the Rauch regime, I was devastated when Clint's character was written as a homophobe in the "Billy Douglas is Gay" storyline. And from what I have read over the years - Clint was mortified too. Maybe at the cost of continuity, life had to happen that way, so the world would know Clint loved everybody. 💙
Would love a interview with Shelly Burch aka Deliah I read in an old soap opera magazine that she was dressing room roommates with Andrea when she returned in 1985 to one life I’m sure she has interesting stories of Andrea ! The tributes and reunions never get old ! Thanks Alan for these interviews and reunions your really great at them 😊
Thank you for putting this together! It was awesome to hear about the Old West. Maybe somewhere down the road you could do one for ETERNA? Fiona, Erika Slezak & many others were involved in that. Another idea is Jake $ Megan (Joe Lando & Jessica Tuck). Fans would go crazy for that.
I love hearing that lil tidbit about the wonderful Ms.Andrea Evans dating Smoky Robinson ! What a scoop ! I had heard it from the tabloids I. The 80s but it was never confirmed 😊just makes her even more interesting
Alan what a great interview again and too see Brenda Brock and John loprieno and as I said Brenda was such a talent and she deserved an Emmy nod along with Fiona for the Micheal grande storyline. And as I also said she had such chemistry with Micheal palence who played Dan wolek yet in 1990 around August just after the charecters finally were brought together the show ruined it. Anyway no one brought up the exploding wedding cake from 1988. At the double wedding of cord and Tina and Asa and Renee that ursala as played by Jill Larson set with a bomb that killed Steve holden who was max holdens brother as at that time Brenda the charecter was pregnant with Steve holden's child . And she was engaged to Steve holden. And that's how the name Steven Jr was given to her child who Micheal grande stole and made Brenda think had died. But it was really Micheal grande's baby that died. Along with his wife Alicia and that was 1989. Also s Micheal snesell was mentioned he actually had an earlier headwriting stint along with Sam hall and Victor Miller when Joseph Stewart was ep. And Alan I think Sam hall had come back with s Micheal snessal around that same time and Alan Paul Rauch worked with Sam hall at aw and I think Sam hall had took over headwriting duties from harding Lemay at aw in 1980. Before he got moved to Texas. But then I think Gail kobe fired him. And I am bringing this up because some of those people at oltl while Paul Rauch was there that the fans and actors loved had been Paul Rauch aw people. Anyway great interview.
I always think about how the character of Brenda, who was in major storylines for years and frontburner for years, was unceremoniously dropped! 😡 I never knew exactly what happened, if new powers-that-be came in or what, but I liked that character a lot. ❤
New powers that be did come in but even when Paul Rauch was still ep the show stubidly dropped the Dan Brenda pairing around August of 1990 and Brenda Brock and Micheal palace had great chemistry together and here Dan wolek was an important charecter who was dr Larry woleks so.and Brenda the charecter had ties to max holden with baby Steven who was Max's nephew. And named for his father Steve holden who was Max's brother who was killed by the exploding wedding cake at the wedding of Asa and Renee and cord and Tina's second wedding that ursala planted wanting to kill Tina. Anyway Paul Rauch got lured to Santa Barbara to try and save it when the dobsons returned the problem was santa Barbara looking more like pam long guiding light was not what fans wanted. And when Paul left linda gotlieb came in and Micheal Malone and Josh Griffith came in in 1991 and Linda did not give a crap about what viewers liked and just wanted to modernize the show and just dropped charecters like Dan and Brenda. Like they just never existed. Or just plain ignored history but the Billie Douglas story was great. But for me as a viewer I wanted Paul Rauch style otl with the western adventures and good storytelling and that fast paced primetime feel and eternia even if it was a little ridiculous and the mendorran jewels and the like with good storytelling that matched Doug Marland era as the world turns. Because it was great and bold. And oltl had humur it was subtle but you still loved cord and Tina and Clint and even hard headed Asa whether Asa was good or bad same with Tina. Anyway hope that answers your question concerning Brenda and her charecter.
Brenda was my favorite character on OLTL in the late eighties/early nineties; it's a shame how she went from consistent frontburner to glorified day player. I remember reading the "Comings and Goings" section in Soap Opera Digest where they announced her exit and I was crushed. Great character and Brenda did an amazing job playing her.
What I think would have been an interesting pairing, would have been Brenda and Rafe Garretson. Very family oriented, with their two children Sammi and Steven. Brenda McGillis Grande Garretson has a nice ring to it… there were a lot of favorites on the canvas by the time Linda Gottlieb came on, at least a quarter were dropped in favor of new characters (they should have observed Doug Marland’s rules)…
Thank you so much for doing this interview. It was so fun. I fell in love with Robert S. Woods many years ago and love the character of Bo. And of course, Bo and Nora were my favorite.. It was so touching to hear and see Loyita speak about RSW. He always seemed like a great guy. Got to meet him once and he was so nice. And yes, a wonderful dancer! Jealous! I also absolutely adored all the Buchanans, especially Asa and Clint. I named my cat Asa! I enjoyed hearing how close they truly were and how OLTL was such a family. I miss the show and everyone so much. Thank you, again to all!
Wow! Mind blown, did not know Smoky Robinson and Andrea Evans once dated and don't remember even hearing about it back in the 80s and didn't know he was a fan of the show, the things you some times find out years even decades later, anyhow great interview as always and they all still look great, .
This was a very special storyline for me! I loved the magic of it, how Clint got his eyesight back when he woke up in 1888 and how Vicky found her way to the past to bring Clint home. Most importantly though, while all this was going on I was in the hospital giving birth to my son.❤
I lovely interview these three were amazing though. I don’t know anything about the show the interview was fabulous ! As the saying goes, ( A few bad apples shouldn’t spoil the orchard) or take away from the dedication of the other cast members had on this daytime soap, and their fan base was so lovely to see by today’s interview
Benjamin during Paul Rauchs tenure at oltl he did a lot of stuff he did at aw and the whole 1988 period including that western storyline was great. And Benjamin Sam hall did a co headwriting stint at oltl at 2 different periods as did a Micheal snessal. And as I mentioned you will probably remember when harding Lemay left aw and I think for 6 months Sam hall handled headwriting duties until December 1980 at aw. Which was when aw then had that awful 3 to 4 year period of writers who could not write the show to the point I think where Paul Rauch got frustrated and left for oltl. Also Benjamin the actor who played Steve holden whose name was russ something but can't remember his last name years later had a brief stint at guiding light I think playing revas therapist but can't remember what year. It was. And as I mentioned to you I was watching the ABC shows in 1988 1989. And loved cord and Tina and Brenda Brock and her charecter Brenda mcgillis pairing with Micheal palances Dan wolek. And Benjamin Micheal grande was played by Dennis parletto who as you remember was the one who was cast as Roger thorpe after the Micheal zaslow debacle pr nightmare before I think Alan got there. And Benjamin Micheal zaslow played David Renaldi after the 1980 period who was Cassies dad and dorians daughter as played by Robin strasser. The original Rachel Cory. And Micheal zaslow during his first stint played David from 1983 to either 1985 or 1986 where Micheal zaslow got to showcase his real life piano playing talents and showcase more of his real life personality. But thank God Jill hired him at oltl and basically did with the David redemption story in what should have been the Roger thorpe redemption story at gl at that time. Anyway benjamin I suggest when you have time to go and watch that 1988 to 1990 period and even back to 1986when cord was introduced where you can see Andrea Evans the original party Williams from y and r as Tina or even go back to 1985 when Andrea returned and had to step into the mitch Laurence story and act like a villainess and clean up that mess. So you see there are guiding light aw and even y and r connections at oltl and even atwt as Doug wert who was the second scott eldridge had a stint as wade Coleman from like 1986 or 1987 to 1989 before that charecter got completely dropped and never mentioned again.
Truly, you’re amazing. Guiding light didn’t do Michael Zaslow any justice in the end! I remember towards the end of his tenure on the show, his whole demeanor on camera I always felt something was wrong. God bless his soul he portrayed a fabulous character. And yes, I remember Andrea Evans of course as Patti Williams❤ So many came through the doors of YNR through the last 50 years it’s great to see they had lasting careers and other roles, and other soaps, and on TV and movies❤
@@benjaminautieri9606 absolutely right but from my understanding Paul Rauch was all for writing Micheal zaslows Als into the Roger thorpe charecter but was stopped by the higher ups and Benjamin I don't know if you knew this but that was not the first time a daytime first was, stopped by the higher ups. When Paul Rauch was ep. It happened to him and harding Lemay at aw in 1975. When Doug Marland was still part of the writing team before he started his first headwriting stint at the doctors. As harding Lemay wanted to with Paul Rauch do the first gay charecter back in 1975 with the charecter Mike Randolph who you might remember from your aw days they even had scripts marked up where Mike Randolph while at college would figure out over time he was gay in a story in some ways very similar to the Elliot storyline but NBC and p and g at the last minute backed out. Harding Lemay discussed this several times including in an old et interview and then extensively in a 2006 podcast interview with Eddie druding for which you can find on his you tube channel. And I think Doug Marland never forgot that from 1975 and that's what inspired him to do that wonderful bold daytime first with the hank Elliot storyline which besides the oltl Billy Douglas storyline for which Josh Griffith did is the only other gay storyline or charecter I ever liked. And I still feel that way. And it's not that I am opposed or a bigot it's just that once you go down that road in the soap world unfortunately especially with main charecters you ruin opportunities chemistry wize for pairings a good modern day example using y and r Mariah and Tessa plus it made no sense that Mariah wjp was so man angry when first introduced would sudenly overnight just be gay. And that was malcome young who did that. And because you went there for the wrong reasons once rory Gibson showed up as a recast Noah you could not do a Noah Tessa pairing. Or let's discuss amc and Bianca with eden riegal and the aftermath here eden riegal had amazing chemistry with Jacob young who would play Jr but you could never do a Bianca Jr pairing because Megan McTavishs went there just to make it all about shocking Erica and that's the wrong reason to do a gay storyline but I do think now the one done at amc with Chris Brunos charecter and Ben jerganson was a ground breaking good storyline. Or let's discuss chandler massy and will Horton and Camila banus and Gabi hernandez when Dina Higley was headwriter with Chris whitesall around 2011 or 2010 certain writers kept pushing her to make will Horton gay even though chandler massy had chamistry with Camila banus and she kept rightly saying no. She then gets fired those same writers who kept pushing it then get promoted they do it then get fired 6 months later because a bunch of other storylines looked sloppy then Chris whitesall returns makes it worse makes nick Fallon into an awful charecter and ruined nick Fallon. So I am bringing it up because we need to be mindful. And really think things through and we need to remember the Doug Marland rule on how not to ruin a soap or charecter from his infamous 1986 interview where he says you need to remember that the charecter or charecters who you think are boring or not interesting may be the charecters the audience loves the most. Hint Maureen buar and Jill at gl. Or Doug Marlands other statement about when the audience then goes but he or she would never do that then you have lost them. But that does not mean you can't give them flaws or edges. Hint hogan sheffer and Barbara Ryan. Bieng just plain evil sure it's fun for the actor but went to far even for Doug Marland. And finally I am going to discuss oltl and cord and Tina and Josh Griffith and Micheal Malone. As we all know Andrea Evans needed to leave the show sudenly in 1990 and Karen witter took over the part and then John loprieno left in late 1991 for a year and half and then the wonderful Christopher cousins showed up and he had amazing chemistry with Karen witters Tina more so then John loprieno but instead of just having him play a recast cord the. Had him play Cain Rogan the con man and here's what's ironic 8 months earlier he had a one day role where he played a male chauvinist sexist who tried to sexaully harass Tina. But what was worse was then they brought cord back and married Tina and Cain and wrote them out of town with a very much alive cord. Which again made no sense because Tina always loved cord over anyone else. Especially with Andrea in the role. But Krista tesrau did a fabulous job in the role. But benjamin it took years to fix that mess with Ron carlivati as headwriter first bringing Andrea back and Christopher cousins back as Cain to fix the Josh Griffith Micheal Malone second stint Tina Cain mess. With Tina giving Cain the max holden 1988 treatment with I take thee cord. And her classic Tina faint. Then finally in 2011 finally getting Tina amd cord back together and Andrea having scenes with Roger Howarth for the first time as Todd. And Benjamin that was a treat too see that on oltl as the show was going off the air. And seeing both cord and Tina act like cord and Tina again in the way I remember. And again I. Mean no offense but it's just examples of things Doug Marland said to never do. Remember us soap fans can tell when you are not correctly writing for the charecters or each particular show and we should be thankful that greats like Paul Rauch harding Lemay and Doug Marland left us with such great blue prints and lessons and ideas in each show they touched.
@@benjaminautieri9606 benjamin I forgot one thing about Andrea Evans she actually started her daytime career at oltl in 1978 but left in 1980 or 1981 and married her first husband who was her oltl Co star at the time and then went to y and r. She ended up getting divorced. But was still under contract at y and r when Paul Rauch came in as ep. So he tried out 2 other Tina's first with Kelly moroney who had been at Ryan's hope then another actress named Marsha Clark which is when the mitch Laurence cult storyline started but as soon as Andrea's contract was up. She returned to oltl in the middle of the mitch laurance storyline. And that's when oltl I think with Peggy oshea but maybe Sam hall also fixed it where Tina really was Vicky's sister and Victor lords other daughter. As when Andrea had left the show around 1980 or 1981 made it where Tina was not really vickys sister. Also make note when Paul Rauch was ep vickys did or alter Nicky Smith only came twice once in 1985 and once in 1990 to shoot Jonny hesser Carlo hessers son. And I think that storyline was planned for Andrea originally but got delayed by 6 months and Karen witter played that storyline out instead with alterations and I am bringing it up because I have seen many comments saying how Andrea or Krista's Tina never stood up to cord and Karen's Tina was more mature from the 1990 period but those critisisers need to realize that 1990 material and early 1991 material including the birth of Sara Robert's who was named for Sarah Gordon who was played by Jensen buchannon was written and intended for Andrea to play and I have looked back at the second Andrea run and she did stand up to cord at times but in her own lovable quirky comedic way. And for me who loved cord and Tina especially with Andrea and john it meant a lot when Ron wrote 2011 Tina where Andrea delivered all the quirks and all the past Tina things but in the end Tina did the write thing and then finally remarried cord and Tina for the third time and as Andrea said before she died she had just gone through a round of chemo and had to wear a wig and was not feeling necessarily her best but she went back anyway to help properly close the show with John lopreino and boy still delevered a wonderful steller performance but see in that case frank and Ron knew the show. And Ron watched that whole Paul Rauch period and watched the same stuff I did as a fan in 1988. Including the faux Bo storyline who was really Patrick london who had plastic surgery to look like Bo. Which played out during the 1988 writers strike and I think that was Paul Rauch correcting the scab writers to explain why Bo was not acting like Bo. But unfortunately I don't think Paul Rauch had enough time to correct diddi who was bos wife who Patrick london was holding captive still from getting electrocuted by I think a electric fence or something like that as Bo could not save her. But that was the one time Bob Woods got to act totally different from Bo.

Thank you, Benjamin! Have a great week ahead.
I so enjoyed this. I couldn' find the link to Brenda's herbal remedy business
Hi there, regretfully, I think links posted on TH-cam don't work, or they get removed right away. I can't remember why, but they do. If you, Google "Brenda Brock, Farmaesthetics" it will give you referrals to her page. Good Luck! 🍀🐝
