Ayutthaya contains the ruins of the old capital of Siam. Ayutthaya was the capital after Sukhothai and before Bangkok. Ayutthaya was destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767. Most of the (Buddhist) statue heads were cut off... for museums & collectors.
