Promo with Boris Malenko & The Masked Superstar

This looks to be transferred from 8mm film, so this footage is of poor quality. From 1977, Les Thatcher interviews "Professor" Boris Malenko and The Masked Superstar regarding Superstar's blinding of The Mighty Igor with one of Malenko's lit cigars, and Superstar's subsequent suspension from Mid-Atlantic Wrestling. The Superstar-Igor feud was one of the hottest in Mid- Atlantic Wrestling at the time.

Les Thatcher is truly an underappreciated great - tremendous worker and an even better interviewer.
He does a great job setting things up here for Malenko and Star.

Very little footage has survived of Boris Malenko (Dean's Dad). This is due largely to the then-common practice of the old affiliates destroying or "bulk-erasing" old wrestling tapes after they had shown them once. That's why TH-cam and WWE On Demand have so little footage from before 1980. The only ones that have it are fans who had old reel tapes or Betamax tapes from the old days that they have uploaded to TH-cam.

So true, we don't see a lot of Boris Malenko footage anywhere even on WWE demand. I believe Malenko retired right before the footage was starting to become a common place in wrestling in 1980. The most footage we ever got prior to 1980 is WWWF. The other territories usually don't keep it or have it saved somewhere.
