    A friend of mine broke my Sog seal pup elite when his throw landed flat like yours. I threw that knife 100+ times with no issues. My friend throws it once and it breaks.

    Right Bryan. These knives are fine. That was a lot of abuse for knives not designed for throwing. Any make with a 90 degree cut stick tang will break eventually.

    What do you mean it's not full tang? It sure looks like it goes all the way down to the end and is pinned in place, exactly how Ka-Bar USMC knife is?! Am I wrong?

      I think they call that a Rat tang or tail? It’s just not large enough to be called « Full Tang »

    I was just looking up info on and older (still nib though) CKSUR1 I've had for at least 10-12 years. It's really more of a combat knife and is a double edge, sharpened on the top for about 1 1/2". I got it out to compare to a Ka-Bar USN Mk1 I just recently picked up. Obviously the Smith isn't the quality of the Ka-Bar but it's half the price so there's that. Both look really cool though.

    In my case, it was the SUR2 clip point that failed :-). I just saw your video and it reminded me of my own experience. I bought this now discontinued SUR2 knife as a budget fixed blade about five years ago. After batoning the knife through a block of wood, the blade snapped in half about 3 inches from the tip. After learning more about steel types and different knife brands, I replaced it with an Ontario SP2 knife. Although batoning could be considered abuse, I have put the Ontario SP2 through much worse and it is still going strong. I enjoy your reviews. Stay well, Raviv

    S&W are decent knives when used properly. Clearly, I won't be throwing my knives at anything because that's a good way to get someone to lose their weapon and also a good way to break them. Throwing knives for throwing, Tactical knives for tactical and hunting knives for hunting. Every knife is made for a specific purpose so if you break a knife throwing it, it doesn't mean the knife is crap, it just means you clearly broke it doing something you weren't supposed to.

    I had the same knife, a very durable knife, I used it a lot, to the extreme, I am surprised how strong the knife is for this price. Hardly one can find a better knife for this price. TOP !!!
    I did a lot of batoning and splitting, to the extreme, he never let me down !!! besides a knife like this I will never buy an expensive knife because there is really no need unless you want to brag a little about an expensive knife

    I've tried several S&W knives and when you find them on sale they are decent beater blades. I actually had a big rounded off cleaver type knife of theirs I liked but someone liked it more and stole it lol.
    Cold Steels GI Tanto is a way better deal in everyway imo. You won't break it throwing it either. :)

    Knowing that the overall design of the blade won’t break when it unevenly strikes the target at an acceptable velocity tells me these knives are well worth the money, unlike some ka bars out there.

  • @larrylightle9108
    @larrylightle9108 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you think the k bar combat fighter with that same tang design would hold up better if thrown due to the use of better steal? I would think so.

  • @richardweilandt3315

    Any rattail tang knife will break when thrown at a hard object and the rotational velocity does not equal the forward velocity, so just don't do it. They make throwing knives for that purpose 🤣🤣🤣 combat fixed blades are not meant for throwing, they are meant for Fighting. With a good edge, they can feather with the best bushcraft knives, but I wouldn't baton with one. That said, the clip point blade was very impressive, I have some S&W folders that are very strong top quality blades. I keep a S&W Tactical Ops Folder in my Mini-14 case. The Tanto blade is not one of my favorite designs, but will get the job done. The sharpener is a diamond plate, quickly puts a edge on your blade but removes a lot of metal. I would swap or add a hard Arkansas stone

    That Search and Rescue knife looks like a shorter Kbar which is a plus imho. Another plus is for 25 bucks I would be more likely to take it to the woods than my $80 Kbar. Thanks for another great knife review Bryan!

    For those who say Brian is "Selling out" to big companies, if he reviews knives that companies sell just because they give them to him, does that mean his review is invalid? I have criticized Brian on things where I believed him to be wrong, but I don't believe in ANY way he'd lie about a product just because he was paid to be a shill. In spite of our differences of opinions, I firmly believe Brian to be an honest reviewer. If he reviews mostly inexpensive knives, there are a LOT of people he's going to reach, because not everyone will spend $250 to get a Bark River or an L.T. Wright knife.

    I understand that you review budget friendly knives for us but they're are better low price knives better then s&w I honestly don't like them because of the edge retention and blade steel I work for a construction company and I've had some knives snap. I know I shouldn't be so rough with them but if I got it in my pocket that's what I'm going to use.

    Ha! Way back in my college days I had a 'book' by Blackie Collins called 'knife throwing; sport survival & defense." He extolled the virtues of the Ka-Bar USMC knife as a throwing knife. No offense but this is kinda why people don't like s&w knives. A k-bar would not have done that albeit its $75 to $100. And I am not an expert but I think k-bar does warranty their knives for throwing mishaps.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, here is what Kabar says: "This Limited Warranty does not apply to any failure of, defect in, or damage to the knife caused by normal wear and tear or by improper use, including batoning with or throwing the knife, using the blades as a can opener, chisel, pry bar, screwdriver, digging tool, or for any heavy work for which the knife was not designed." And, I am in no way saying Kabar is not a fine knife. I think they are. Just pointing out that many quality knife makers recognize the potential fro breakage from throwing accidents. TOPS also specifically excludes damage from throwing from their warranty, as I'm sure any other high quality knife makers do.

    These look just like our nations great Ontario and Ka-Bar knives that have been knocked off by Taylor brands (S&W & Scherade made in the CCP quite possibly in labor camps) no thank you. S&W should save their name as they make great firearms. I suggest a Ka-Bar Extreme with D2 steel - it will not break when you throw it and has the same style of tang - just better made. Survival is worth more than $25.

    Saturday knife "Throw Off :) I think both are quite cool looking knives.Traditional Ka-Bar-ish design. Seems to have the same sheath that comes with for example SCHF9 and others. For 25$ knife the Rescue Clip Point is nice. Both are. Fine for fire and food prep and other camp tasks. If one spends only 25$ for a knife they most likely do the job just fine. The clip point probably even better. Especially combined with a hatchet and used just for cutting they should last for years. So well worth the 25$ I would say. For example "Leuku" ( Big Sami knife) is a beastly tool for the intended use of it and it is a rat tail tang( usually wide one tapering towards the pommel) like all traditional Scandinavian knives . Haven´t heard Leuku commonly break. None of mine have. ( Lol, not even the ones I have forged and heat treated myself) And I have used them quite rough. Naturally after various amount of abuse any knife man made eventually breaks and one surely can not expect that type( rat tail tang) of knife to perform well as a crowbar or heavy batoning. That is a job for a full tang knife. Great video as always Bryan :) Always enjoy watching them! Big thumbs up!

      Well said Jani. And I think it is cool that you forged your own knife

    Smith & Wesson just uses their good name in firearms to sell cheap knives and other stuff. Same as Browning

    In no scenario will you or ever should though your knife. It's pointless and not an effective way to use a hunting knife

      Maybe lighten up a little. It’s just good, clean fun.

      @SurvivalOnPurpose the video was entertaining for sure just saying I don't see the practicality of throwing a knife

    I think the heat treatment is bad and the knives are junk....and this kind of reviews (S&W junk knives) are bad for your channel.
