I was born in a small town in the south of Bahia. The region that exports a lot of cocoa for the production of chocolate, and since I was a child when I started to understand the world around me more, I don't know how to explain it but I started to love the city of Salvador. My Parents already resided during their youths here too. When I first visited, when I was 13 years old, my family members who live here were surprised by my knowledge related to the city. 4 years later I came to live here and I've been living in this little Africa in Brazil for 13 years now. I am grateful to be able to breathe the air that circulates in every corner of this city. I love it when I go to the city center, I love it when I'm in the historic center, I love cheering and vibrating watching "Meu Bahêa" football games as we speak, hahaha at the Fonte Nova stadium, I love seeing our blackness spread throughout the city, you can understand me ? And as much as I have the city in "my hands" that first time feeling never dies! It's a lot of power in this city that is slowly being awakened! and a tip

I love Salvador I was born in Porto seguro fearther south but salvador is definitely special but it comes with some problems as most big centers in Brazil , I woul love them to go to South Bahia and experience the interior , Salvador is great but it's a big city .
The person performing at minute 4 not only is a famous Mestre of Capoeira known as Mestre Tonho Materia but as you guys saw, he is also a singer and a performer. He's been also in the opening at the FIFA World Cup in Germany. His capoeira group name is Associação Cultural de Capoeira Mangangá. If you can land a personal interview with him, it would be amazing as he is a walking encyclopedia of afro-brazilian (and beyond) culture. I know him personally and have his number if you are interested.
I forgot to mention he was also a former singer of Olodum, which is the band that played alongside Michael Jackson in the song "They don't care about us" shot both in Rio but mainly in Salvador da Bahia.

Since you guys are in salvador and liked Pelourinho,may take a quick trip to Chapada Diamantina, it looks exactly like Pelourinho but way more peaceful and it's surrounded by nature, it's beautiful!

I'm from the south of Brazil and have never visited Salvador. Whenever I think of the city, the first thing that comes to mind is how colorful it is: the buildings, the culture, the people. There's a very positive energy in this place, that's for sure. I can't wait to visit Salvador.

brazil is so multicultural. you could go visit the south of Brazil, or the north of Brazil... you could go to the center west in the capital of Brazil... you will see that brazil looks like several small countries with different cultures, but that speak a single language and they understand each other well!

Black people are all over Brazil, but the northeast of the country has a larger black community than any other area in the entire country. I have been in the South (Porto Alegre, Rio etc..) and the northeast (Salvador da Bahia, Recife, (Pernambuco).
