I think we had a better system in the early 2010s when indie artists were working the internet scene. And the major artists were still doing their thing, both could capture people's attention still and make quality products. Now that the industry has gone full on streaming, it's like everyone is fighting in one pool. Everyone's on the internet now, putting out whatever. And just to get a leg up, you need a major label, or you need to capture an international audience.
