The Kamawashi Tunnel was built to create a shortcut around a meandering river, and to clear the U-shaped part for farmland. This is a method of clearing land devised by farmers in the past in this area, where arable land is scarce.

外房の秘境エリアですね。個人的にR465と保田-鴨川線に挟まれたエリアがそうだと思ってます。
特に「開墾場の滝」のような所は結構あるのだな、と感じています。著名な養老川流域をはじめ
ココのすぐ西側、高宕山周辺の高溝-宇藤原-怒田沢周辺にもなかなかの渓谷があったと思います。
オフロードバイクでの進入も難しく、最後は徒歩でした。近年それらのルートすら把握が難しくなり、
一部は崩落もあったとか。正確にご紹介できないのが残念です。
さすがオフロードバイクだとフットワークが軽いですね。車もジムニーかパジェロミニクラスだと現地での機動性は高いのですが。
私はずっとミニバンやSUVでせいぜい現地での機動性の為に自転車を積んでいく程度で行動範囲も限られていました。
もっとも、林道や素掘りトンネルはここ最近始めたばかりでした。いずれにしても房総半島は奥が深いですね。😆
