i've never thought of Mitch as being anything other than himself. I think it's great he is so comfortable and open about his life, his choices and his sexuality. We love you Mitch just as you are

I have always felt that way also, but something tells me it's not that
simple.....his specialness is born in him, God's gift if you will...it breaks my heart that he's struggling so much these days🥺

I haven't seen it openly yet, but I hope that Pentatonix is proudly, and loudly, supporting Mitch's solo, creative art - Messer

What I love the most about Mitch is the fact that he feels a need to not only express himself but also to constantly search for new ideas, genres etc. It is amazing! I consider him a living icon!

This was really nice! Good to hear adult conversation about real events (but I love the silly stuff too!).
As a black American I really just want to convey to white people how much this is NOT about wanting anyone to feel guilt or shame!! None of us can change the past. We remember so we don’t repeat, but let’s just all move forward and pull together to create a society of equality and acceptance.
I just found their music (PTX & Superfruit) due to the lockdown and wish he knew how much joy and light it has brought...how much it has helped me cope with everything. We need more of what he (and other artists) uniquely has to offer...especially now!!

Sorry this is such a late comment, but I have come back to this conversation with a purpose. Yes, as artists it is in your wheelhouse to remind people of their history and how they have come to enjoy the freedoms they have. It’s time to get political for your community. Women have been dealt a crippling Supreme Court blow, and the queer community is next on that agenda. As two very gifted artists and collaborators, I urge you to consider how you two can contribute to the fight that’s coming. Take heart from the protest songs of the past and see what that inspires? It’s can be a powerful call to action. Peace from Ohio …

I do disagree on feeling guilt. As a "male presenting, non-straight, white person" I dont have any "guilt" about who I am. This does however stem from a general disconnect from the LGBT community as a whole. I am who I am, nothing more and nothing less. I am no more responsible for the suffering of people than someone on the other side of the world and my race doesn't effect my sympathy.
Art should always be free of "should I or shouldnt I". If you have something to say, then say it. our time is finite.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. When Pentatonix first formed, they realized that they were all very different people but had overlapping interests. They decided to do the overlapping parts together but they would each do side projects if what they wanted to do didn't fit into the overlap.
So, is Mitch doing non-Pentatonix-ish stuff on his own? Yes, that is how they have decided to organize themselves. It's why Kevin does his own thing with various music instruments he plays. Check out his channel. He is doing things that PTX doesn't "allow" him to do. That is the plan.

As far as I know he is an adult so he doesn't need anyone's permission to do/sing whatever he pleases. If the other members of the band have a problem with that I'm sure that they can address it themselves. Other members of the band have released solo music so why would that be a problem? He's his own person, he doesn't owe you anything.

So here's how I see it and what follows is simply my opinion and anyone is free to agree or disagree.
Whenever we see Mitch, we only see a snapshot. I've never seen anyone evolve so much in the public eye and I approve of it but that doesn't matter. It's not up to me or you or anyone else to approve or disapprove or to judge him or anyone else for that matter, through the lens of our own belief systems or expectations. We're privileged to be allowed to witness his journey of self-discovery through these snapshots. I'm 70 years old and constantly being surprised by the fact that I'm still evolving. I was a lot older than Mitch when I realised I probably would never "get there" and that it wasn't important as long as I was still on the journey. Life holds so any surprises that cause us to re-evaluate our expectations. It's only at the point of death that we can have a proper perspective on where our life took us. And of course by that time it doesn't matter. At least, that's my belief at this moment.

To Angelin: I understand why you wrote what you wrote, but I don’t think your comment is helpful. To Mitch or Scott or others who identify as gay. I’m a born-again Christian. I am a professional singer, songwriter and actress. I mostly only sing contemporary Christian music that I wrote, though I have sung a few songs that I didn’t write. I had an experience once and I share it with you because it really changed my way of thinking…about many things, not just homosexuality.
As I said, I am a singer/songwriter/actress. We (a group of four), traveled all over performing and our main audience/venue were churches. Well, once we were covering a show, booked by someone else, at a Metropolitan church, which are churches that cater to gay and trans congregations. I was scared to go, but I was willing. The team that I traveled with were very concerned for me, because the man I had married before divorcing, was a gay guy, who came out of the closet during our 12th year of marriage and left my daughter (yes, we managed to have a daughter together) and I for his new ‘lifestyle’. I was living my second year as a divorced woman with my 12 yr old daughter at the time. And, I admit it was hard. Anyway, I knew performing at this church could be difficult, so I ‘prepared’ ahead of time with prayer and the morning of our performance, I played Christian praise music LOUDLY, to get me in the zone, so to speak. I went into that show nervous but feeling strong and fortified. We had experienced a beautiful time of worship with the congregation (which left me quite confused as the vibe was genuine worship of God), and it was our time to perform. Now, many performers might not admit this, but it is possible to sing and connect with your audience while doing other thinking in your head, and boy, I was thinking! I was praying to God as we were singing to the congregation. I was confused because I saw and felt genuine praise and worship from this congregation. So, while singing, I asked God what I was supposed to think? How was I supposed to act, feel, connect in an authentic way? The pastor and His male partner were Believers. I wondered how could that be…but mostly I wanted Him to let me know how I should feel, respond in this unique situation. Singing involves connecting with people while drama puts up the fourth wall, so the illusion you’re portraying stays on the stage. But we were singing, and I knew I had to find an honest way to connect. Well, God came! He answered me up there on the stage, in front of everyone (though no one heard or saw it but me). To me, He spoke loudly and clearly to the point I thought everybody could, in fact, hear it. And He said to me, which I’ll NEVER forget, “It is not your job to judge anyone on whether they are good or evil. It’s not your job to judge their behavior and whether it’s good or evil. That’s MY job. I’ve given you a job which you already find hard to do, and that’s what you should be doing instead: Love any and everyone I put in your pathway, regardless. It’s my job and only MY job to judge. It’s my command that you leave the judgment to me and, with my help, love, love, love whomever I put in your pathway through life.” Wow. As soon as He stopped talking, I felt so much relief! Of course it wasn’t my job! Once God spoke to me, I knew it was right. I knew it was what God wanted, and I was so happy to be relieved of the burden. I had a wonderful time the rest of our time there. My team was shocked afterwards. They had noticed a change in me. They noticed that I was happy, carefree, and enjoying myself and everyone there, and they were shocked when I told them what God said to me. I believe with all that I am that it’s the truth, and you know what the truth will do for you: it will set you free! My ex and I get along great now. He married a guy this past New Years, and they came and visited my daughter and I and we had such a wonderful time together; filled with laughter and hugs and games. It was wonderful, and I felt so relaxed and free to love them both, with my whole heart. God is good! He loves His creation. He loves unconditionally and thank God, it’s not my decision or yours to decide if another sojourner in life is worthy or not, of that love. NONE OF US ARE WORTHY ENOUGH, to pass judgment on another one of us, as fellow humans struggling through life together. Pray for him, sure. Just like you’d pray for others, but it’s not your place to chastise or ‘punish’ or dump guilt on someone else, unless you’re willing to have the same returned to you. And that’s biblical, too, and includes every human being on this planet. Read 1st Corinthians 13, the ‘love’ chapter for further clarification. And bless you in your sojourn in life.
