The Great eastern was basically one of the very first ships ever made my the white star line it was first built in 1858

It wasn't a white star line ship, it was built on the Thames river in London by John Scott Russell & Co not Harland & Wolf of Belfast. (The only company to build ships for White Star) it was the design of Isembard Kingdom Brunell who had also designed the smaller but equally famous passenger steamers Great Brittan and Great Western, The ship was designed to be the largest ship in the world at the time (which she was) but she was designed to carry up to 4000 passengers from England to Australia or up to 10,000 troops as a war transport. Sadly she never made a single run to Australia, When she was launched she was stuck for months in the mud of the Thames then she was sold to a smaller company who put her on the more competitive Atlantic run instead she never made much money and so was used as a cable laying ship until she was scrapped 1889
