Not gonna lie I was expecting different (more negative) words from you based on the title lol, but I’m glad I watched through it since was a great video. And personally, I really think the second Batman game was honestly one of their best pieces of work, the branching decisions in that game were the best of any Telltale game. I wish Telltale’s reputation hadn’t fallen at that time, because that game hasn’t gotten the praise it deserves, but with Telltale “back” hopefully a season 3 can arrive!
Thanks for watching through before commenting on the video! I heard the second season of Batman was incredible. I watched Noclip's documentary about Telltale Games, many ex employees also agree that Batman is one of their best pieces of work, since the studio could take risks after the toxicity was cleared out. I hope they'll make another Batman game for you to enjoy! :D
TellTale is a prime example of the saying "Quality over Quantity" their desire to send out 1000's of games daily got them shut down amongst other issues
@lfir83ol3or99e I can't argue that and wasn't trying to imply their games weren't good it's more if they toned down their need for putting games out religiously and took a bit more time the shut down could have been prevented all together if not delayed
There's a factor in the drop-off in interest in Telltale's games that doesn't get brought up nearly enough: The illusion of choice. I think Telltale designed its games with the intent that they be played through once. Unfortunately for them, I think they underestimated the obsessive nature of many gamers. Namely, the large number of people who will replay their games just to see what's different when a different choice is made. Those who fully played through The Walking Dead Season 1 saw that things weren't really different. Sure, dialogue changes and certain characters will be present at certain times, but the core plot points don't change. The problem persisted through other Telltale games, and while it was there in The Walking Dead Season 2, the ending gave a lot of hope. Not to go into spoiler details, but Clementine can be left in any of four very different scenarios. I think a lot of fans were truly hyped for Season 3, as it looked like players could get a completely different story based on how Season 2 ended. It seemed like Telltale was listening. Then it turned out they didn't. Instead of The Walking Dead Season 3, we got The Walking Dead: A New Frontier. The focus was on this completely new character, and Clementine is a side character who pops in and out of the story. Those awesome alternate stories we were hoping to get? Just alternate flashbacks that ultimately led Clementine to be in the same location for this game, so the illusion of choice struck again. I mean, I guess that kind of thing is touched on when talking about how the executives wouldn't allow the programmers to try anything new. But still, they kept throwing that "game is tailored to how you play" line at us long after we realized it was flat-out lie.
I like to see them as more like playable movies. What you do matters, but mostly as a reflection of yourself in the shoes of a main character. If you go in expecting hundreds of branching paths, you're going to be disappointed. And i think telltale was kind of dumb to market their games in that way (for the reasons you listed)
@@Sergio-nb4hj But that's the problem, what you do doesn't really matter. All that changes are maybe a few lines of dialogue. I only know of one or two permanent changes in Telltale games, and even those don't effect the story much. They might have done better to have shorter chapters but with more divergent story possibilities, especially with later games. But, as the video states, the creators were forced to keep recreating "The Walking Dead, Season 1" in hopes of repeating its success.
@@Sergio-nb4hjand that would be fine, if that’s what they were advertised as. Interactive movies do have a market. But they hyped themselves up as a choose your own adventure game where your choices do matter
Wow. I wondered why Wolf Among Us Season 2 never came out. I was like this game is awesome & it motivated me to buy video games again something I haven't done in decades. I hope to see more Tell Tale Games rise from the ashes as well.
I love stumbling upon hidden gems like this channel! You definitely deserve way more views. Also, I'm glad there's others who sees just how good Season 2 really is.
I'm glad that Tell Tale Games is coming back, and Wolf Among Us 2 is a good start of games coming back. I hope that someday, they will be able to bring back Game of Thrones in the future. If not, they could at least try and start over with House of the Dragon coming up.
Its such a shame it truly saddens me the walking dead series is concluded it was definitely a masterpiece series. I'm playing through all of them right now on my channel and am just both delighted and heartbroken. I wish there was a way to revive that legend.
Tbh i just hope we get tales from the borderlands season 2. And I already have a good story for it. So like the first 2 or 3 episodes are about Rhys and Fiona because they got teleported somewhere and I think the most Logic place where they got teleported is Nekrotafeyo. The origin Planet of the eridians. So Fiona and Rhys have to find a way back home to Pandora and maybe with the help of Typhon. So we would get more of Nekrotafeyo and more char development for Typhon. And maybe Rhys finds or gets something special which would explain the technology behind the Atlas weapons. Then when they are back on Pandora they are gonna search for Vaughn, Sasha and the whole crew. But maybe in that time the crew already got split up because Of Hector (which explains why Vaughn is alone in the fifth bl2 dlc). And so we could see Hector again which would give him more char development too. So he was not just a normal dlc villain but a bigger thing. I really hope we could see sth like that in the future because it would be soo cool and it would connect everything a lot better.
I'm surprised you don't have more views, they way you explain multiple avenues of failure and success is so refreshing in times where people just shit on everyone and reminds them of their constant failures. I will say, I grew up along side telltale games, I remember the walking dead coming out when I was still in secondary school and hearing about it's closure when I started university. I loved the batman series, borderlands, wolf among us... I adored nearly most of their more 'modern' games. Just the stories, the characters, even the style of it all impressed me and I fell in love with it all. Even now years later I still love Lee, Kenny, Clem and Bigby, these characters just stick in my brain and live there rent free. It's a shame the studio crumbled away, but I'm still hopeful that something will come of it all.
Hey! I'm glad you found the way I explored why games/companies fail. I do try and maintain a neutral stance and look constructively as to why these projects fail. Following that, it's always good to celebrate the historical success of these companies! Though I admit, I sometimes miss the mark. The Cube World video I created is a great example of this. I am excited to see what the new Telltale Games will create with The Wolf Among Us Season 2!
honestly, telltale managements problem wasnt the "expectation" or stress that got to them, it was their egos, if you look into alot of the employee stories, kevin bruener was pretty much a man-child who demanded games be made for him- i mean, that they make games only he likes, because he was incharge of the company when they made the walking dead and would legit fire you if you questioned him too much, Q&A was like walking into a minefield of "okay lets cut this out". for instance, you know about the cut fishing scene with alvin? that was only cut because it made the game longer then their usual episodes (1hr40mins-2hr30min is their prefered length), thats the only reason .
Great video bro. IDK if you heard but some guy bought out telltale games and all the rights and he said he's planning on bringing all the season that were already planed and some new story's. So did I. I've never read the books either, (except for Fire and Blood) and I found the game much better than the series. I really hope they'll be able to bring it back someday. If not, they could at least try and start over with House of the Dragon coming up.
The first walking dead has such a special place in my heart i can never forget it watching it with everyone and on youtube with pewdiepie damn the good old days just listening to the theme song brings back memory i feel sad now
In my opinion I think IPs and The Games feeling like long movies/shows instead of An Actual Video Game is what killed Telltale like litterly you can watch a telltale game on TH-cam and get the same experience as the player and ik people will say oh what about the choices we'll the choices didn't really matter they only effect the he game a little but other then that you'll end up getting the same Outro like everyone else like This Company was gonna die eventually tbh
Excellent video, YT recommended this to me. I’m a huge fan of TWDG and even played TWAU and they are some great, if not amazing games. It was horrible when I heard The Final Season of the Walking Dead was gone because Telltale’s close but unlike many games where the company making it fell, it was finished. Hell, it technically wasn’t Skybound who even finished it, it was the old Telltale devs who did as Skybound just provided the resources, money and legal stuff though TWD was always Skybound’s original IP that Telltale had the rights to (the games where original stories and characters however) so that wouldn’t have been too much of an issue. Since this video we have gotten more information about the new Telltale and it is looking good, It’s been said that about half of the people in the new Telltale are from the old Telltale, Telltale is also saying they are going for quality over quantity so it really seems Telltale has learnt from their mistakes, they already did but it is good to see even under new management they have kept that lesson. Also good to see while this a “new” Telltale it has the people from the old in it, so it’s new in terms of what it physically has as it has to rebuild and crawl back up but when it comes to the people there it is very much the Telltale we knew and loved with some fresh people in as well. Also the company that bought Telltale was only founded mere months before, it really seems the CEO Jamie Ottilie had planned it all out, it isn’t a coincidence you found a company and then buy the stuff a dead one had and bring it back from the dead, no, LGC had to have been made with the plan of getting Telltale back from the start. Jamie Ottilie did say Telltale brought him some of his favourite stories to play so he clearly likes their work which is essential, it’s good to know the CEO is a fan of sorts. He also said he believes in the adventure genre and all and that is why he bought Telltale. Just as how Telltale was founded to keep the adventure genre alive and going, the new Telltale was revived in belief of the future for adventure games.
I fail to see what people saw in The Walking Dead game. The game is a mess, the story sucks, the characters are uninteresting and one dimensional, there's barely any gameplay, the game is bugged as hell, I've had a couple times when two scenes played at the same time for some reason, and you don't even get a run button. And most of the decisions, which is the main point of the game and why real gameplay was sacrifice, are shit, pointless, most of them don't change jack shit and the ones that do, only matter for a few scenes in the chapter where it was taken. It only got popular because of the Walking Dead craze back then. Shit game.
14:34 thats very understandable. The walking dead Season 3 felt more a T game then a M game due to the quality massive drop (hardly any gore in a M rated game)
Man you are awesome you really explain clearly I really love telltale games these games makes me feel good , bad , and very every type emotions I experienced while Playing these games . I wish telltale game will release new gamed in future 😭😭 .
My only problem is each part being an episode at it's release. Then buying the rest of the game later. This would not be bad if you was not being charged full price for an incomplete game.
I cannot understate how great your videos are. They are so entertaining and well edited, and you only have 497 subs! Well, 498 thanks to me (; keep working man, i promise the blowup is gonna happen
As far as I'm concerned, Tales From the Borderlands (the original) is Telltale's magnum opus. It's nothing short of spectacular, and I'm not even THAT big a fan of Borderlands. It's just that you can feel the live and care the devs had for the franchise at virtually every second of the game. It's great, and even if you haven't played any Borderlands game, it's still worth playing IMO.
Though Minecraft: Story Mode was the only kid friendly game TellTale Games had, and you could make more money out of kid friendly IPs than with Mature Propertiesl.
I know the walking dead is their biggest game but to end Sam and max save the world will forever be their best one to me. The episodic nature is what made it really good. God I hate how the Sam and max franchise is on and off now. Let’s hope the new company makes some more.
I know I’m in the minority, but TellTale games always seemed very, very barebones and more like cinematic experiences. I’ve only played the BTTF game along with the first Walking Dead game, but the lack of actual gameplay drove me away. Decent stories. Just not what I would typically consider a video game.
The BTTF game for me is really the beginning of the end for them. You could see the cracks in their formula at that point, and it just kept getting worse and worse release after release
Yes, Back to the Future did set up the basic premise for the formula used in Telltale's Games. Though I wouldn't go as far to say that Back to the Future was the beginning of the end, because Telltale Games were still evolving their games with moral choices and such. But I see that for you, it was the beginning of the end. Did you explore any of Telltale's other titles? Or after Back to the Future were you completely finished with the company?
laugh at me but the first game I ever played was Minecraft story mode yes that one....and I love it but I guess it's just nostalgia since It was the first game i ever played

I'd say walking dead season 1 is my favorite with season 4 being 2nd. The only bad walking dead telltale game I'd say is season 3. As you can see, I didn't agree with you on season 2, I still like it but I think Carver wasn't as interesting or good as the stranger and some of the decisions you made just don't matter like "telling her to defend herself". The ending choice feels pointless too but I'd say that's more season 3's fault. That wellington ending was perfect.
I'm glad this company is gone. Sorry for those who needed a job but. God. I know this company from the walking dead but the second and third walking dead were terrible and with the 4th one it was obvious that Clementine would end similar to Lee's from the first game. That's how predictable they got.

You know something was wrong when they prioritized Minecraft story mode over the final season of the walking dead
Though Minecraft: Story Mode was the only kid friendly game TellTale Games had, and you could make more money out of kid friendly IPs than with Mature Propertiesl.
Awesome documentation!
I know I'm a total pussy but hearing that soundtrack of TWD that played during 1:06 always brings tears to my eyes...
Nah man, I'm the complete same ;_;
I know the walking dead is their biggest game but to end Sam and max save the world will forever be their best one to me. The episodic nature is what made it really good.
God I hate how the Sam and max franchise is on and off now. Let’s hope the new company makes some more.
The game has so many character was shot in their head, like people go to sleeping early to protect the brain was healthy
incredible video i miss twd so much i wish they would make a dlc
Glad you enjoyed :)
I know I’m in the minority, but TellTale games always seemed very, very barebones and more like cinematic experiences. I’ve only played the BTTF game along with the first Walking Dead game, but the lack of actual gameplay drove me away. Decent stories. Just not what I would typically consider a video game.
I guaran-damn-tee you consider games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls to be the absolute epitome of gaming
@@memesauce9410 Not big into the Souls games but Elden Ring was pretty good.
good video now it makes sense why thing went down hill for them it's sad they really made amazing games for us, the gamers.
It's been so long...
But I still can't get over it...
Minecraft story mode 1 was amazing... But they screwed the story in the second one...
Wow man such an awesome video i don't even have words to describe it
Thanks for watching Stefan :D
great video quality for such a small channel
Thank you :D
11:33 Daymn Bigby got some moves 😆🤣
telltale is back in the business baby!!!!!
Well, let's just hope that they will be able to bring back Game of Thrones in the future.
They flew too close to the sun on wings of pastrami.
Or after Back to the Future were you completely finished with the company?
oi this video is sick i might go play the walking dead now lmao
Trust me, they are brilliant games!
I might go play Game of Thrones again.
Freaking great video!
Thanks! :D
Is there any chance we might get the wolf among us 2 😢
It's coming! :D
Is there any chance we might get Game of Thrones back in the future?
WHERE DID U GO
Hey man! I read this comment in bed a couple days ago and dusted off an old video and managed to finish it. Thanks for giving me the push :D
I love the walking dead game it was good and I thought you were gonna hate but it was a good video keep up the good work you earned yourself a sub
Nah to many plot holes limited choices it's meh
laugh at me but the first game I ever played was Minecraft story mode yes that one....and I love it but I guess it's just nostalgia since It was the first game i ever played
No judgment here gamer :D You like what you like!
@@InfoNowDocu thx I'm Lookin forward to another video of yours
@@InfoNowDocu WOW i played the walking dead season 1 and its amazing thx for showing me the walking dead season 1 your the best and your videos are really good
So are they going to at least make Game of thrones available for Iphone? ):
I never saw it on my Iphone, and I don't think they ever will.
wolf among us was free in the epic store and i played a bit of the first episode but then i left the game again. After this video i really wanna give it another try! Thx man
That's great! Definitely give it another go gamer! It's a great game :D
@@InfoNowDocu i really hope telltale gets a great return. I miss those games
@@InfoNowDocu just played the walking dead michonne miniseries trough and I really hate telltale endings. I want more dammit haha
I really liked the character Sam. She reminded me of Alex from life Is strange
I actually haven't played Life is Strange, is it good? :D
They Rush their games, they should have finished their work see if It was worrh It, and then at the end Stark working to a new game
The walking dead season 2 was the first one I bought too
Im one of the 5 people in the world who liked the Jurassic Park "interactive movie" 💀
My favourite TellTale game is Jurassic Park the Game!
My is Game of Thrones.
The low angle and defensive QTE is not innovated it's called attention to detail definitely not innovative lmao
this
I agree. Poor choice of words. Thanks for the feedback. I will work on my phrasing
Play the game "The wolf among us" without the words "The Wolf".
My bad bro I commented literally a min before you mentioned what I did in my other comment lol
No harm done gamer! Glad you know your knowledge :D
S4 was disappointed ☹️ so many plot holes
I didn’t think season 3 was a “bad” game, it was the weakest but I still liked it
s4 had a lot of bad writing. the only well-written characters/good characters that entire season were Louis and Marlon. Sorry not sorry.
It's sad
I loved the walking dead series
This was on my recommended
That means they won't produce new seasons of games
Plz don't use that background music from TWDG 😭😭
I'm glad this company is gone. Sorry for those who needed a job but.
God. I know this company from the walking dead but the second and third walking dead were terrible and with the 4th one it was obvious that Clementine would end similar to Lee's from the first game. That's how predictable they got.
quality over quantity, multitasking is good if you expert but if not make all the work leaving undone
telltale needs to create breakjng bad game with the same graphics from walking dead
will this be the walking dead in season 5
Sadly not, the license went back to the owner I believe :(
@@InfoNowDocu Skybound has it. Rumour has it they're working on something.
@@TheGamerRist22 well skybound is a terrible company and they've already ridden clementine and twdg into the ground with episodes 3 and 4 of season 4 and that dumb fucking comic
I loved the batman telltale 🤷♂️
I thought Season 2 was better
Just 998 views?!!!!?
We hit 1k views gamer :D Thanks for watching!
I'm so ashamed I just recently picked up their games, they game us games the gaming industry needs.
These story based games could bring in a whole new audience of gamers.
They spent everything on overpriced licenses.
telltale games will forever be in my heart heres a sub
Same here gamer! Thank you very much :D
@@InfoNowDocu you do know it's alive right. Risen back from the dead wolf among us 2 was announced since telltale got bought
Yep! All that information is at the end of the video! :)
11:34 pictured here are big Bs seduction skills
Big boy
I wanted stranger things telltale😔
Perhaps Netflix will open up their own game studio in the future and finish the project? :D
I wanted Game of Thrones season 2.
Telltale broke because the game has violence scene
Bro thats literally what put them on the map. Are people genuinely that sensetive nowadays lol
too much batman games and properties that led no where
