Pam, there are so many things I love about you -- you are a "real person": with an adorable fun sense of humor... and not everything you do is perfect, sometimes you correct course as you go along because that's what happens in the craft world. Well, this video represents all of that, and its AWESOME.

So glad you posted this. I did mine the hard way, with a sharp blade BUT no blood transfusions needed. Can not wait to do this the easier way. My tip...save plastic bread tabs and use them to put on the cut ends of tape rolls for easily finding the pull edge. Works for all types of tapes. Smiles to you and Sunshine.

Dry stickles on the 10 Club card...whoo hoo!!! Love these...what a fun idea. You could also just stick the packing tape entirely across both sides of each card as a no-sew option.

These look great! Instead of using a ruler, I might just trace around a cardboard shape and cut it out with a small and sharp pair of scissors. You could poke through the center to get started. But, certainly the punches are the easiest way to go, if you have them. TFS. 😃

Pam, the black part on the back of the ruler is there to keep it steady so it doesn't slide around! If you turn the ruler over and use it the right way up it shouldn't move at all once you put pressure on it. Great video as always, I love these altered playing cards. Thank you for sharing!❤️

That sounds like fun! I was thinking about glitter to match the card, like red for hearts, or a color to match the design on the back. I'd use two cards to sandwich the glitter in-between.

Great project Pam. I'm thinking I will try using the "windows" in junk mail envelopes. Also to better handle the tape, just fold over a small edge (which will be cut off anyway) so it won't stick to your fingers. Also thinking to pin the card down to hold in place while using the craft knife (maybe pin it down on a piece of card board?) Pin holes will be small and easy to decorate over. TFS. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving.🦃😋😊

    Pam(and other paper playing friends😉😁),
A little trick that works sometimes for the wrinkle in the tape is to poke a tiny hole in it with a needle, then mash the air out. While it might not completely resolve it, it does make a difference. 😊
    Hope this helps!

I use the clear stuff from the windows of junk mail. You can peel it off carefully from most mail. The return envelopes usually don't have any smears on them . Fabri-Tacked onto the card or paper sticks well. You just have to encapsulate the flower between two layers of plastic. It works great!

    • @thecreatorsattic
      @thecreatorsattic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Or...I have used clear plastic packaging from stickers from a dollar store, etc. You can already have the two sides you need and then just drop in the flower and go from there with your card or slide. So cool to see you doing a video on this. I love working with dried fresh flowers!

Perfect idea!!! I've been trying to THINK of a way to incorporate playing cards into my junk journal. Look no further!
Made a bunch of Altered Paper Clip Note Pads yesterday. And 3 bird nests. They are SO CUTE!!!
I have a trash can by my sewing machine that's only for thread, and tiny fabric & paper scraps. I KNEW I'd be digging threads out for SOMETHING! Bird nests.
They aren't as good as yours, but I will keep practicing. They will be great on other ephemera too, that I've left un-embellished. YAY!!!
You are very artistic and clever, the ideas you come up with. Always something great, I haven't seen before!!! THX!

Another way to cut the hole would be with one of our basic dies. Square, circle, etc. And I buy acetate tablets and that would work for the clear part, too. It comes in various thicknesses. Although I do have cheap (dollar store) packing tape and sheet protectors as well as pocket pages for pocket letters. Love the idea - the only thing I don't have is dried flowers but we could put other things in, too, like tiny fussy cuts. :)

  • @differenttakethanmost

Pockets n page protectors: leave just one side intact/sealed either top or side (notebook or clipboard style) = much easier to maneuver glue and focal item inside, then seal it up once the centerpiece is where it’s supposed to be 👍🏼 🤓😎

    Hello Pam,
This reminds me of science slides I made when teaching 3rd grade. I use packing tape also. It made wonderful windows to put things in for the kids to view. Then they could use magnifying glasses to see the items. I used cardstock instead of playing cards. Wish I would have thought of the playing cards because in our small town in Nevada, I used to get decks of playing cards from the casinos for free because I was a teacher. We use the cards for math games(and no not gambling games Lol). BTW I bought a metal ruler with a cork backing on it that keeps the ruler from sliding. Perhaps you could just add a piece of cork or course sandpaper to the back of your ruler to keep it from sliding.

Maybe you could put some masking tape on two edges or corners of the card to hold it in place, and turn the ruler with measurements up and the black, non-slip side down. That should alleviate so much sliding around.

Cool Pam....I won't do the X cuts though! Went to Amazon and bought a jumbo square punch! I was thinking I can use scrapbook paper or manila folder in place of playing cards...pretty either way!!!! Thanks!

Thats fun, thank you for sharing! Have you tried glueing the tape on the non adhesive side first on the card, so you can take your time placing the flowers? Or would that be even more cumbersome?

Discovered two tips for working with the packing tape. Results in the tape being a little less unruly.
I wanted to tack it down with scotch tape so it wouldn't shift around. Discovered that putting the piece of scotch tape on the packing tape gave me a way to get my fingers free from the packing tape. Just hold down it down with finger on the scotch tape part until all fingers are free and the packing tape is tacked down in place. I just used a piece at the top and the bottom. I pull the two pieces of scotch tape before I start messing with the packing tape so it is a quick easy grab.
Also-- with the packing tape attached and securely in place, I can slide the card with the window under packing tape so I can see the space I am aiming for. (Between the table and the non-sticky side of the packing tape).

When you first started I thought the cards would look pretty average. By the end you’d created some very interesting designs, the leaves look perfect. Thanks for the video.

What if you used a rubber thing like you use to open jars? They're pretty good at gripping things and would probably hold the card still while you cut it. or if you had a die cut that cuts out squares of triangles that might work too. Very cute Pam thanks for sharing. Happy Thanksgiving 🥰🐞😘

I would cut the square from the card with mr fussy cutting sizzors. I think it would be much easier and no danger of cutting off a finger !!!
