    Love these NOLA tours. I worked in the bars in the French Quarter from 1999-2013 and it’s kind of sad seeing everything all boarded up and closed

      A lot of places were boarded up in preparation for a hurricane.....Louisiana was in the path of 8 named storms this season and 5 of them hit, quite a busy time! Some owners paid artists to paint on their boards for decoration.

    Gives me goose bumps. I worked and lived in the Quarter in the mid-late 80's. I had a room in some slave quarters off Conti and Dauphine. On the second floor of the Old Absinthe House was Tony Moran's Italian Restaurant where I worked for a while and met Frank Sinatra and Red Buttons one night. Had a gig as DJ at Chris Owens' club where she was still putting on a helluva show at 55+, another working with a street magician named Keith Wilson and a midnight show at the Famous Door. Got to shoot a game of pool with Paul Newman when he was between takes shooting the movie "Blaze" down on St. Phillip Street. Sold roses on the street corner for Bob Bridges, the Flower man. Every thing from pushing a Lucky Dog cart a couple of nights to dining room captain at Court of Two Sisters, lol. Lots of memories in a few short years. Thanks 👍👍 Oh, and thanks to Ruthie and Chicken Man for helping to make the Quarter what it was then.

    17:35 Zydeco really never gets the recognition that it deserves. Everything is all about Jazz. The first time that I heard Zydeco, I loved it. Fun Fact: There's a cheesy post-Wall Germany movie about an old man who secretly (when the two Germanys were separated) gets a radio channel from Louisiana. He starts to copy Zydeco on his own accordion. When the Wall falls, he heads to Louisiana and becomes a Zydeco sensation.

      Hey Elizabeth! We’ve got brass bands playing in the Quarter again at this point (late 2020), but I’ve been seeing them in Jackson Square and by Cafe du Monde (during the day) more than on Bourbon. But spring is always when our outdoor music scene is the strongest - fingers crossed that we’ll be in a position for that to be true again in 2021.

    You neglected to mention Al Hirt's statue. Jumbo was one of the greatest trumpeters to come out of New Orleans! Catch Pete Fountain and Al Hilton playing together on TH-cam...It's fantastic!!!

      Andrew knows Al Hirt. This was one of the first videos we produced and we were just getting used to being succinct with our content. He just got sidetracked there.

    Hey anyone remember the Strip Club that had the girls on a swing that swung out of a window onto Bourbon street. When I was little it was real ladies then it changed to mannequins sitting on the swings. There were always two. The good old days of NOLA. ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️

      Yep! It was called Big Daddy's. It was a New Orleans Icon since the 1950's. Many people on our tours recall it as one of their New Orleans memories.

      @@Gueygirl1 Thanks Sarah for the info. Going to bourbon as a kid with your family was like no big deal. Parents were way cooler then. We had to take family to see it whenever they visited from out of town. We did the French quarter tour that always ended with Cafe Du monde . That was the best part. ⚜️

    I love New Orleans, it's music, it's food, it's voodo, it's stories in history, and the love of this city! I pray that it survives this climate change, because it's really bad what our country is going thru now! We must stop fracking and big oil, now! I want my birds chirping at my window when I wake up, and I want to see butterfly's in my garden with bee's buzzing around...I want to see Polar Bears in Ice Land, we MUST DO SOME THING NOW!

    • @FreeToursbyFootHQ
      @FreeToursbyFootHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're a bit worried too, especially since the land in New Orleans sits so low next to the water. Some of the most important historical moments in the history of our country took place in this city, and it would be sad to see places like the Cabildo under water.
      Thanks for the comment!

    The Mrs. says: Way, way, to many counties, all you need for such a small area is an East County, a West County, a North County, a South County. A lot less paper work that's for sure and only four Mayors and Probably much better Law enforcement and more accountability on what's going on with each county.
